I’m not trying to say that everything was black before, but it’s concerning that there has been a clear intention to erase any contributions from Africans (Muslim, Jew or Christian). It’s OUR history. No matter what your skin tone today. It’s part of what made us all. Let’s celebrate that.

This history is partially false. The moors did conquer parts of Spain but these were not the black moors. The moors who conquered Spain were part of the ummayad caliphate and they originated from Syria, spread through the middle east, conquered North Africa and then proceeded to Spain where they remained in parts of the south until they lost the war and were chased out. Most of my ancestors were from Sicily. I’m white with brown hair and a ginger beard. I did a DNA test and found some North African, West Asian, and a very small percentage of West African which was specifically listed as from Senegal. Human history is wild.

I'm Sicilian and, yes, we Southern Italians in general have mixed genetics, i.e. Southern European with a strong presence of MENA (Middle Eastern/North African) genetics and sometimes even a small sub-Saharan percentage. Therefore there are those who are "white" and those who aren't, and they realized this in the United States when we emigrated in 1900, so much so that we from southern Italy, especially us Sicilians, were called "Guinea". Having said that, we Mediterranean peoples are a genetic mixing a bit like the Caribbean peoples are, only that today it seems that this thing is somewhat hidden. The Alhambra palace is one of the world's great wonders of Architecture, with its interconnected collonaded open courtyards, and a sense of sensual life among gardens pools and fountains. Truly a high point in civilization at the time. Contrasted with the circular palace built by the conquistadors, in the same place. A cold austere lifeless structure. Unfortunately it has become an icon in Spain's mass tourism industry.
The Palacio of Carlos V is actually very interesting and very impressive: a circular building. But it is more of a military and administrative structure, while the Alhambra was used as the actual palace. Cold, austere, lifeless? After 800 yeas of reconquest they were in no mood to be frivolous. Boabdil might have been wise to have spent more time building "austere", "lifeless" defenses. As his own mother put it to him on their way out: "Cry like a woman for what you could not defend as a man"....ouch.

The use of black stone, circular form says one thing, worldwide conquest by a hard cruel church and state. Which is what happened as the New World was enslaved. They weren't conquistadors. They were native people of Iberia and the Muslims were invaders and enslavers. The Spanish had conquered no one at that point in history so how can they be conquistadors? The palace is beautiful. It's a simble of native triumph over the invader but because they are white people, you say it's a " austere lifeless structure". You can take the alhambra and all the Muslims to your country and see how you like it!

Spanish person here. As part of our history we learn about the moors in Spain. We learn about the good and bad, as many other colonisations. We know about all technological advances and we celebrate our rich culture, as Spain has been colonised not only by the Moors but also by many other cultures before them and that is part of our heritage. We also celebrate the defeat of the Moors and the Reconquista (reconquest) of Spain, also part of our culture and heritage.

And if you knew anything at all about history, you would know that the Iberian Peninsula was an important part of the Roman Empire, which had introduced all the technology mentioned here long before the 8th century, including irrigation and baths. The Arab influences brought new styles, art and agricultural products in the Medieval period. These influences came largely from international trade.

ITT also is so very enlightening on why Black people are seen with such disdain by Europeans . Moors weren't black though. They were originally North Africans and Arabs. Black African countries didn't become muslim until much later. The Moorish language, literature, culture and architecture in the Iberian Peninsula was undeniably Arabic in origin.
The Moors are Amazigh, they don't have specific color ranging from white to black ( depends if you're up north or south ). But most of them are pale skinned brown/white, because most of them occupy the north. They started to recruit more black soldiers though using slavery, not the black moors, other black Africans. The reason is not just to increase the number to conquer but to protect themselves against potential Coup d'etat. Amazigh were notoriously known for their coup d'etats.

This history is partially false. The moors did conquer parts of Spain but these were not the black moors. The Alhambra palace is one of the world's great wonders of Architecture, with its interconnected collonaded open courtyards, and a sense of sensual life among gardens pools and fountains. Truly a high point in civilization at the time. Contrasted with the circular palace built by the conquistadors, in the same place. A cold austere lifeless structure. Unfortunately it has become an icon in Spain's mass tourism industry.
The Palacio of Carlos V is actually very interesting and very impressive: a circular building. But it is more of a military and administrative structure, while the Alhambra was used as the actual palace. Cold, austere, lifeless? After 800 yeas of reconquest they were in no mood to be frivolous. Boabdil might have been wise to have spent more time building "austere", "lifeless" defenses. As his own mother put it to him on their way out: "Cry like a woman for what you could not defend as a man"....ouch.

We know about all technological advances and we celebrate our rich culture, as Spain has been colonised not only by the Moors but also by many other cultures before them and that is part of our heritage. And if you knew anything at all about history, you would know that the Iberian Peninsula was an important part of the Roman Empire, which had introduced all the technology mentioned here long before the 8th century, including irrigation and baths. The Arab influences brought new styles, art and agricultural products in the Medieval period. These influences came largely from international trade.

Moors weren't black though. They were originally North Africans and Arabs. Black African countries didn't become muslim until much later. The Moorish language, literature, culture and architecture in the Iberian Peninsula was undeniably Arabic in origin.

The Moors are Amazigh, they don't have specific color ranging from white to black ( depends if you're up north or south ). But most of them are pale skinned brown/white, because most of them occupy the north.
They started to recruit more black soldiers though using slavery, not the black moors, other black Africans.

Imagine if this was the FIRST THING that we were TAUGHT as BLACKS when we were kids in school instead of our history solely based on slavery? Can you ever IMAGINE?
The difference in confidence would be huge. It would be even better if we just learned true history though without even learnin discriminate people as "White" and "Black". That is not how most people through most of time thought of themselves. It develops in Europe, but class mattered much more, and a lot of history of highly melanated people who were part of European and Colonial society is hidden.
We should recognize that people really aren't colors, and just teach the real history, which would include how much Christian Europoeans lied in there quest for resources and dominance even though some of them would be considered "Black" today in our modern wordl.
