- To continue my series of doors and corridors in science fiction cinema, here's the first Star Trek flick (in 1080p no less!). I've expanded the usual ship-bound theme a little to encompass the use of 'alien' themed doors and corridors from the V'ger space craft and its 'cloud'. I'm sure I'll get around to the rest of the Trek films eventually or maybe I'll combine them.
As before, only footage and audio from the film was used in the making of this experimental fan short. No copyright infringement is intended, this video is not monetised and all credit is given.

Music by Jerry Goldsmith

Love this!
I have a strange obsession with TMP corridors.
(The guy @01:42 always made me nervous going thru that door)
Mitch G haha me too. Never really understood that shot when I was a kid. Doors always opened and closed to people in star trek apart from that one in TMP. I have a new TMP video ready to upload soon all about the voyage into Voyager 😜
I always will be a fan of star trek movie one
Holy cow, dude!!!
This video reminds me of why TMP is one of my unlikely favorites. While the acting was awfully dry, it was one of the most visually STUNNING Star Trek movies, EVER.
Beautiful work!!!!
Ram Laska many thanks. Glad you liked it. The film reveals just how much sci-fi has changed over the years; this was slow, thoughtful, beautiful and the director and editor opted for lovely slow sequences where Goldsmith's amazing score and the effects had room to breath. I also did an Alien one for this Doors/Corridors sequence which you might like.
I remember I had a TAPE of the TMP soundtrack that I listened to on the bus EVERY DAY going to High school. This would have been from late 1989 to 1991 or so. I wore that tape OUT!
People looked at me funny for listening to THAT KIND of music on full blast on the bus, but I couldn't get enough of it. Still one of my all time favorites. I think it's right up there with John Williams.
James FitzRoy PLEAAAASE do a video on Star Trek VI. That is my favorite Star Trek movie. 1991 was the apoapsis/apogee of Star Trek, in my mind. It was right around the time that Gene died -- they had a good budget, and his leadership was still resonating in their mind. While I think DS9 stands on its own *very* well, it veers a lot from Gene's vision. I thought Voyager was just silly (in terms of the quality of writing), Enterprise was just insulting, and don't even get me started on JJ Abrams.
Ram Laska well funny you should say that.... I've been thinking about a Genesis Trilogy video (Trek 2-4) for a while and have now started work on it. Watch this space 😏
1:50 +James Fitzroy did you realize that Kirk's quarters became Data's quarters in TNG? The rounded shape of that part of the room should be familiar.
Of course, I'm sure you know that the Enterprise-REFIT corridors became TNG corridors (and later Voyager corridors, bleh!). I was just thinking about the time that those corridors sat unused, and then realized that it was only 8 years between ST:TMP and ST:TNG. :o
Dude, 2-4 were amazing, some of the best of Trek. Please also do 6 afterwards if you can.... just my request for my personal favorite ^_^
Cheers, and thanks for the amazing work!
Gene Roddenberry believed that in the 23rd century doors, everywhere, would only be 1 inch thick. Also the lights on the ceiling of the corridors where either clocks or visuals showing that there were people in the other corridors.
I love this.
That was awesomely edited. Must have taken some time to achieve.
Martyn Barrett many thanks. Yes, each one in my Doors/Corridors took quite a while and in this, Jerry Goldsmith was my inspiration.
Missed the one where Ilia busts through the door.
Still the best "Looking" ST film.
They reused the sets so many times in the following movies and of course the corridors in TNG.
Yes... but I had forgotten about those corridors with the plush red walls. Fancy! Looks like a space hotel of some kind.
The doors are evil: they say "sith" whenever you open them. Well it would give you a shock if they said jedi whenever you walked through them.
+. “ccityplanner12” Haha. They're not evil, they just open to the dark side...
Funny. As a kid I always figured they were whispering "sheep".
That door hiss sound effect used on the Star Trek original series movies was the worst door sound ever made.
The producers should have just stuck with the door sound from the show on the first 5 movies, which thankfully was on the Enterprise 1701-A's control room in the 6th movie.
I am distracted by the voice of the computer (space suit) at 1:00. This voiceover strongly reminds me of the computer in Escape from New York, which was played by Jamie Lee Curtis and (partly) by Debra Hill. Please tell me someone knows who this is. It isn't credited.
I believe the computer is voiced by Majel Barret who also plays nurse Chapel in the film.
A lot of love was put into making these sets. Too bad the director sucked.
Lol, "Robert Wise sucks"....thats a bold statement.
@@xn0gaming that’s beyond bold. It’s downright uninformed. wise was an academy award winning director who was handed a film with a train wreck of a production history and schedule. It’s amazing that he made the movie as good as it is. And IMO ST:TMP is probably the most thoughtful and grand Trek film of them all.
