    Stu, these videos are priceless! One small recommendation would be to shoot these with a shutter speed that follows the 180 degree rule. If you're shooting at 24 frames per second, set the camera's shutter to 48 or 50 for the most natural looking motion blur. Unless you're shooting with the higher shutter to better show the action of your fingers playing, but for a more natural look, I would stick to 48. Can't tell you how great these videos are for people to get an educated perspective on the differences between makes and models!

    Thanks for this review! We purchased the FP30X, great piano! - But BIG problem with "Roland Piano App" which is great, extremely helpful (almost a "must" for a piano without any display). But it has a BIG PROBLEM so far: it ALWAYS demands internet connection to work. And that's NOT what is stated in Google Play Store (where it says it will require internet "THE FIRST TIME" you use the app with a Piano, and for "some" features as well).
    -- We're Musicians who purchased a Music Instrument, not a mobile device which is aimed to internet!
    We perform in different places, where internet is NOT always available, or it may fail.
    -- Many Roland Piano don't have even a Display, so "Roland Piano App" IS BIG HELP for faster/easier Settings, and also to use ADDITIONAL SOUNDS/TONES that are not available directly from the Piano (but they're there inside)
    So we contacted Roland (Via our registered instrument-Support) requesting that the app does not demand internet for those features that don't require it.
    They said they would put in a "wish list" to consider... This should be considered much more seriously than a "wish"...
    -- We do hope Roland realizes the big importance of using the app without internet AND FIX THIS, it's a Piano!
    We encourage everyone using this great app to contact Roland, requesting this, because it would improve and help a LOT the customers & musicians experience who trust on Roland.

      You're very welcome! Thank you for tuning in and congrats on your Roland FP30X! I am happy to hear that you have been enjoying it. I am sorry to hear about your issues with Roland Piano App. With that said, Roland is a company that is very receptive to user feedback from my experiences. Hopefully, things are corrected so there is a way to access some of the features offline. Our fingers will be crossed for you!

      @PabloVazquezVisualArts Год назад

      @@MerriamPianos Thank you so much for your awesome reviews, indeed of great help to take a purchasing decision.
      The problem with the app was completely unexpected, since on Google Play it says it will require internet "the first time".
      We never expected that the app is demanding internet every time, otherwise it does not work, even for the most basic settings.
      We're VERY concerned, since nobody replied our 2 emails sent to Developers of the app, even after receiving the zendesk ticket numbers, (Developer email at Google Play), and the only response was from Support from the registered Piano, telling it would be passed as wish list. That was 2 months ago. The app was updated 3 days ago (Jan 23, 2023), adding new Piano models, but still requiring internet every time.
      It would be fantastic if you could contact them and/or make a review of the app showing that the internet "requirement" is a BIG limitation for Musicians, who travel to perform to places where internet is not always available, or even fail at home/studio, hence making impossible to use the app, which is a huge help, since lot of Roland Pianos don't have a Display. It has no sense at all to demand internet for features that don't require it. Also, the AWESOME extra sounds available ONLY through the app (obviously they're already in the piano, but for some reason not available directly...) Hence, if no internet, no extra sounds for performing when traveling...
      So we got mixed feelings, amazing piano with a limiting/ed app...
      - If you can help, it would be extremely appreciated!!
      Thank you so much.
      IMPORTANT P.S.: "Piano Partner 2" app, which allows Extra Sounds for FP10 does NOT require internet connection to work, but sadly is not compatible with FP30X. So for FP30X the only way for Extra Sounds (which lot are trully amazing) is "Roland Piano App"...

    This is not only a significant upgrade, it really is one that almost makes the old instrument obsolete. This is just a much more realistic sound. I focus mostly on the piano sounds, not the other stuff. So, in terms of the new vs. old piano sounds, this one is not subtly different, it is scream it on the mountain much improved different.

But doesn't that also count all of the "strings" that are having sympathetic resonance? It's entirely possible a beginner or intermediate pianist will come up against that limit.

    I'm stuck. I was so sure I'd get the FP-30X. Then I started tinkering with the idea of the FP-60X instead. Then.... the RD-88 came on my radar.
    I believe the RD-88 is not the same key action as the FP-30X/FP-60X, correct? So that's where I'm stuck. And the sound engines and new chips.
    So please, I'll pay you money for this.....do an in-depth analysis of comparing those three, but especially the RD-88 with the FP-30X due to the FORM FACTOR looking the same, which is very important in my current small space.

      Nope, the RD-88, FP-30X and FP-60X all have the PHA-4 action. The RD-88 has a lot more sounds, and a bunch of extra controls for modifying the sounds. It's great if you want a wide range of varied sounds for band shows, etc. But compared to the relatively tasteful FP's, it looks rather like a mad scientist's lab. :?) If you don't need all those bells and whistles, the FP's look much better in a home.

    Biggest questions...
    1) can you play quickly on the X version? The previous version had key travel which made this difficult.

    3) what is the size and weight difference

    • @kidflersh7807
      @kidflersh7807 3 года назад

    Like some other commenters below, as someone coming close to making a choice amongst the overwhelming number of very comparable digital pianos, I am really questioning if the extra money between the 30x and 60x can really be worth it especially if you want to add the stand and triple pedals. It's kind of infuriating that as usual, Canada gets hosed price-wise compared to the US though too. I'm interested in the mid priced higher quality ones- Casio PX 870 and AP470, Korg's C1 and G1 Airs, Yamaha's 515, Kawai's ES 520 and 920. Then there's also the mini consoles too, like the Roland F701. If any of you have opinions regarding these I'd be happy to hear.

      As far as I'm concerned, the best option would be the FP90. Well worth the money. Having said that, I still think that the Yamaha 515 is slightly better overall, but the FP90 holds its ground nicely. You can't go wrong with Kawai either, particularly in that range/segment (ES8, MP7, etc).The MP11SE is arguably the best portable digital piano in the market.

      @@mlgl9728 Thanks, that made it easy. lol But yes, it sure is overhwelming trying to make that choice given the plethora of amazing sounding and performing machines out there. • @mlgl9728
      @mlgl9728 3 года назад +2

      @@Truthasvictim agreed. Not an easy task when it comes to make the decisive move considering the huge array of digital pianos and keyboards in the current market. The MP7, and the MP7SE in particular, is a beast in terms of quality, sound, connectivity, key action. I love the RHIII keybed, fast action with an outstanding responsiveness. No wonder why Nord decided to incorporate a customized version of the RHIII action into the Nord Grand...although I still prefer the original RHIII action. Having said that, the Yamaha 515 and the FP90 are really top contenders in this particular segment, there's no a clear winner here. I like the RH3 action by Korg ( featured both in the C1 and G1 models), but as far as sounds and overall quality, the Japanese manufacturer is nowhere near as good as those I mentioned above. I own the Kronos, arguably the best workstation in the market, love the action (RH3 as well), but the piano sounds are not its strongest asset. I haven't extensively tested the Casio models, but I find them quite good and acceptable. I still lean slightly towards Kawai though...as far as I know the MP7 is discontinued but not completely sure.

    If you have your keyboard usb connected to a computer running a daw, then the onboard sound chips are irrelevant. With software like Keyscape, Omnisphere, and others you have WAY,WAY more sound options. The only difference I care about is the keyboard action. I've owned an FP30 for a few years. It's great but the keyboard action is just a little heavy, which I find helps my finger strength when I play a real piano.
