We are currently in Southern California moving to Montana. You can check out our homestead build videos too if you’re interested. We will raise both solitary & honeybees at the new homestead and have about an acre of garden space there. Crown bees ship all over & have great info on their website. Check them out here. tinyurl.com/yw4n4psn Good luck with your gardens 🌱🐝
Hi there! The net bag is used to find any pests that might be present & remove them. We harvest the cocoons and store them in a humidibee in the fridge overwinter. There is a pad at the bottom of the humidbee that we keep damp at all times while in the fridge. Here is a link to find out more tinyurl.com/yw4n4psn thanks for watching & commenting.
We raised them in Southern California for years with great success. Check with Crown Bees, they will have more information for the Florida area. Links are in the video description. Good luck with your gardens & bees!! Thanks for watching & commenting.
Florida is home to 300 species of bees, some endemic. Get a nest house, mount it a foot and a half off the ground and facing east. Get a 5/16" and 3/8" drill bit and start sinking holes on the east side of fence posts for them. That and some flowers is all it really takes.
American Bee Journal (Feb 2024). Honey Bees are only 5% efficient in pollination. Mason and Leaf Cutter Bees are 95% efficient! Ideal for Small Gardens, and a lot less work, Native and Mason/Leaf Cutter Bees are ideal for the Home Garden.
Oh no! Yes, this year’s weather has been strange for sure. We have started seeing more as of late. Hopefully you will as well. Good luck to you with your bees & gardens. Thanks for watching & commenting.
@@OurWeekendHomestead I am doubtful bees will return they only live up to 6 weeks, and about 3 of those weeks have already passed. Very depressed over it
Is it possible to hang a mason bee house once add cocoons and then leave it alone and have the daughters of the original bees hatch and live in the house for several generations?
You could definitely try that. I would be weary of intruders, pests & other issues like mold & weather. We have the best luck cleaning ours out yearly. That promotes a much healthier bee house. Thanks for watching.

Way to go David.
Thanks!! It’s been fun learning about these bees and we definitely see the results in the garden. They are powerful pollinators!!

Mason bee shipping season ended in April. However, we are currently sending Summer Leaf bees!
What part of the US are you in? I live in East TN and was curious how well they would do here?

So do I understand correctly the leaf cutter bees you just put away in a net basket no cleaning necessary and no washing?

How would raising solitary bees work in Florida where temps are pretty much always above 75F?

Fascinating aren’t they?! We love all things bees. Thanks for watching & commenting.
Garden is as ready as it could be, but where are the bees? Weather is appalling and most of my bees vanished recently.

I read that mason bees can sting but the sting is too small to penetrate the human skin.
They are super docile and we rarely see ours. Never had any issues with them at all. Thanks for watching & commenting.
