Hi Gear Seekers! It would be pretty interesting to hear (in a video in some form?) your opinion of Linux gaming, if you have one? Thanks and love your work!
in these testings do you refer to “RT on” just normal RT and “ray reconstuction on” as pathtracing? it does make a huge difference in performance and kinda confusing the way you put it in the video, making the average person think that ray reconstruction as a feature makes 4090 loose performance.
Retail price of these has gone up 200-500AUD here in Australia since launch. Kind of hilarious, guess that is what happens when there isn't any competition at the top.
I agree in general. But keep in mind that it also matters how powerful the retailer is. I bought my RTX 4090 FE a month ago and the price was exactly the same as 1 year ago. Best Buy wouldn't allow Nvidia to just raise the price randomly.
@@gucky4717 I got it for MSRP and I have a good job. It's going inside of a custom water loop with a 7800x3d. The water cooling parts cost about as much as the 4090.

I'm starting to wonder if I should upgrade to Zen 5 X3D model, and simply keep the GPU until 6000-series comes. Have a feeling there's plenty of frames to be gained by upgrading the CPU and RAM, and possibly to a Gen 5 Nvme as well.
i have the same combo as you, and while its true that the 7800x3D will give you more FPS, do you really need them? the 5800x3D still has amazing performance, so why do you feel the need to upgrade?
@@gosti500I agree I may not need the higher up FPS, especially because I have a VRR screen which looks awesome between 90-120fps. However, the possible stutters and drops to under 50 at 0.1% lows is what I'm thinking about here. Granted, I think when that happens it is an optimization problem and the 7800X3D or the upcoming X3D Zen 5 CPUs are just brute forcing through that.

Ray-tracing is nowhere near stable enough on the hardware yet and eats way too much computer power. The vast majority of mainstream gamers don't have a 4090 anyway. I personally don't play games in RT mode (most players I know don't either), and the only reason I continue to get Nvidia GPUs is merely because of DLSS being superior to FSR and being able to run both DLSS and FSR. Using FSR because it "works on everything" isn't a good method. GPU manufacturers optimize upscalers for their hardware, so it's never going to be an apples to apples comparison. Also: Absolutely nobody who owns an Nvidia GPU will ever use FSR if they can avoid it. While I understand it's a PITA to use multiple upscalers in benchmarks, it's significantly more accurate.

While using FSR for both Nvidia and AMD, if it is available, seems fair...it isn't. FSR 2.0 is optimized for AMD cards and they get a big boost, while Nvidia cards usually get only a small or no gain.

Never understood the fascination with "realistic" or "accurate to real life" graphics. To me.. a game isn't real.. that is the point. It's almost worrying that simulators like iracing eyc are easier to run than these new fangled GPU crushing AAA titles. Something is wrong with this situation. 😂 lets not forget that these real to life graphical games completely strips the art style from the graphics. 4090 is a glowing beacon that represents what is wrong with the industry right now. Hope we get some actual good games soon.
That's completely up to personal preference. You personally may not like realistic graphics but many people love it. Those people certainly are happy that they're making games that look more and more photo realistic. I'm one of them. I do think that it sucks how expensive high end graphics cards are now but then I just think back when an average PC would cost like $5000 and wouldn't even have a graphics card. That's going back about 20 years meaning it costed even more in today's money. Nowadays you can get something that back then would've LITERALLY costed millions of dollars if not billions. The 4090 would've been like alien technology back then.
It all comes down to personal preferences. Some people will spend 10K USD in a simulation rig with top of the line racing gear and some will just play with $250 Thrustmaster wheel and pedals.
I love the sightseeing element crazy graphical games. But you're right, good gameplay is not dependant on real life quality graphics. In fact quite the opposite usually. So what you end up with with the real life quality graphics games is a lot of unimaginative gameplay and grind.

I bought a Gigabyte 4090 and am scared everyday that my stock 12vhpwr cable is going to melt and catch fire.
It's scary when spending $2800 CAD for a premium GPU.
Also, is that a RGB mod on the 4090.
The 12VHPWR that came with it will be fine. No the Founders Cards have RGB from factory
I was same way with Gigabyte 3090RTX Gaming OC 2100@9900 after seeing that same plug issues 3 years this Nov no issues as long as it plugged in all the way should ne fine did you say 2800+ Canadian wow that is like almost 2100 US I got mine just before price hit fan $1599
Very nice card btw
Make sure that it's just plugged in all the way. Maybe check every now and than that it is. I have had a tuf 4090 since the day they dropped a year ago and Ive done all kinds of stuff to it. Swap it out plug it back in multiple times and I use it a ton.
junk on my 3rd card(gigabyte gaming oc) £1900, keeps melting the connecter even undervolted 2520mhz power limited aswell, card wasn't moved since february and still melted playing fifa 23 for 5 hours, spo if any joker says there not plugging it in all the way its bollocks because they are, my latest card still in the rig has melted and fused to the board cant get it apart, will be going to krissfix at cablemods expense, the first cable was cablemod, second cable was the standard cable, third cable cablemod, just a shit show all round wait for 50 series
@@martinmalone6324 wtf?
Things have only gotten better. I had a i9-11900k which was the best cpu I could buy 2 years ago which was bottlenecking the rtx4090 but I just upgraded to the new i9-14900k and now they are a good match for each other and don't bottleneck.
I love a video of a card you can't get.
6950 XT revisit 🤘
I am very surprised why for a whole year AMD did not make a card as powerful as 4090. What exactly they're waiting for?!
The more they hold back, the more the next generation looks like an increase. They aren't ready to be on that level to spit out gains like that gen on gen.
working on a new gpu arc takes way longer than a year
Man Im Happy I got A 7900xtx Is What I Took Away Here lol
A hot card indeed!!!
I am so glad I didn't get are RTX 4090 and waited for the 7900 XTX
same here ,xtx kicking ass at half the price
4nm vs 5nm makes a huge difference in temps & power consumption
@@Koo_pootra don't forget price, it all means nothing if it costs a used car just to play The last of us above PS5 level lol 4090 is a nice work horse though for professional use, no gamer should be buying that just for gaming
@@DonaldHendleyBklynvexRecords I actually meant the 4080...
Your 4090 FE has RGB. What is this witchcraft???? I thought just white...
Every FE card has RGB. People just don't realise that
@@GearSeekers How do you switch it on. All important questions here. Lmao
Actually it's not more accurate. Performance differences are negligible
This has been disproven by many people who have significantly more technical accumen than you do.@@GearSeekers
I’ve just picked up a EVGA 3090 Ftw3 ultra…not much love on this chart 😂🤦♂️
Only because I included GPUs that have been more recently tested
@@GearSeekers I know Pal, was only pulling your leg 😂 I’m stoked I’ve got the GPU…pretty much had a full PC with out a GPU for a very long time. Looking forward to be officially enter the PC gaming world!
way more but for alot more

1 year?? No!!! Until october 12th. Lol
Glad I picked up a 7900xtx
Sure it runs cooler than a 4080??
My desire to defy you prevents me from leaving a comment in the comments section.
😔
Most of these games are AMD games from PS4/PS5
What lol
Shadow Of The Tomb Raider literally has the NVIDIA logo when you open it. Super position is a benchmarking application and Cyberpunk it's a halo product for NVIDIA. Horizon Zero dawn was a PS4 game. Your logic is flawed 🤣
I would use percentages when reporting how much better or worse something got. 10 frames better than 50 is huge while 10 frames at 200+ is literally imperceptible
While using FSR for both Nvidia and AMD, if it is available, seems fair...it isn't.
FSR 2.0 is optimized for AMD cards and they get a big boost, while Nvidia cards usually get only a small or no gain.
That's actually not true. We've tested this quite a bit. It's negligible
so buy a 7900xtx instead
facts lol
It consumes more power & gets hot
@@Koo_pootra idle power draw is crazy on the 7900 xtx so I got a 4090 haha which can melt so no winning
@@UnknownUser-fg3fs 4090 is a 4nm architecture compared to 5nm 7900xtx 😎
Please revisit the 7900XTX because amd drivers and fine wine is allegedly a thing!
I'll do the 7900 XTX in about 2 months when it gets closer to the 1 year mark ☺️
7900 XTX consumes way more power & gets hotter compared to a 4080
@GearSeekers it's time for the 7900xtx re review? Have you done one or will it be coming anytime soon? I can't decide between 7900xtx and 4090, I have 5800x3d cpu and just want to be as future proof as possible if I'm spending this much. Nervous go8ng to amd as I've only had 1 pc before and its a 2070 super by nvidia
@@dragonclubracing8669 you are never going to hit the threshold of 24 gb gddr6 in the forseeable future. That said, I won't even recommend 7900xtx because it runs hotter & has poor rasterization performance.
I was in the similar condition after which I went for 4080 & now I'm content with my choice
This gpu is way to expensive for gaming 😂

Wow. What a useless GPU the 4090 is(to me) Do you guys really pay $1600 for pixel quality? I race Iracing mostly and can do 4k120 native on an entry level GPU like 7600 and it's a perfect experience.
Linus what that point of that
Just made the video longer
Just so 10 ppl that use linus can watch it?
