One of the problems of biomass (wood pellets) is it’s very limited shelf life of only a few months. Most coal fired power plants held at least nine months supply, (this was increased after the national miners strike) so if. Supplies were cut for a length of time Drax would be in trouble.
Now if DB and Network Rail collaberated to get direct trains from UK/St Pancras to Cologne/Germany in general that'd be wonderful - a direct ICE without a Brussels interchange would be wonderful.
Can we not create them in the UK ? We are reliant upon another country to supply critical materials not to mention shipping them across the Atlantic is not that green !
I'm really enjoying this very interesting series. There used to be four ways to get to the Drax area by rail, now there is one. Perhaps some more resilience is needed for such a strategic asset as Drax. I noticed Colas was not mentioned, despite appearing. Do any others visit on occasion? Oh, I almost forgot. How many people appearing are LGBT+?
Even freight trains like Class 66, Class 68, Class 70, Class 88 etc are going greener and could see these trains run on hydrogen fuel to reduce Co2 emissions because of climate change.
It felt a bit too corporate for me. Why do we need to know your job title when you can’t explain get the basics right like explain what bio-mass is. The presenter is a bit too keen!
We need more episodes and information like this

Can't wait for the next!

There might be legal issues with that as we are a third country.
"What is biomass?"
"We bring it over from North America and the majority is put on trains."
🤷
(It turns out to be wood pellets.)
Good spot.

Colas don't serve Drax, the Colas liveried locos are GBRf locos that haven't been painted yet.
@@CalderTrains Thanks, that's interesting. I looked more closely and it's a Class 60. GBRf bought them from Colas in 2018! That's what threw me.

It would be a massive, massive job to convert to Hydrogen ICEs. Are you volunteering as a project manager, Andrew?
