  • How has Zhang Weili rocketed past her Chinese peers to become the first Chinese champion in the UFC? Talent and a relentless work ethic form the basis, but her decisions regarding her training is what elevated her to a two-time UFC champion who is becoming more well-rounded every fight.

    Lol, a lot of haters in the comments. Zhang is getting better and better every fight. She obviously deserves respect especially wirh the war in the first Joanna fight. One of the greatest title fights ever.
    Both fighters were pushed to the edge but zhang just had that extra gear that sealed the deal. How can people not give her props for that. 😅

    Zhang is my favourite female fighter of all time, such a humble and nice personality but also a machine in training

      She’s also spent a lot of the last two years in Beijing and Arizona, some in Shanghai. She’s gone to Bangtao for the Joanna rematch, Esparza fight and a little for this Lemos fight.

    Great video Chris! I do have to point out that she before the first Joanna fight in 2020 she did spend a month in thailand training with Muay thai legend saenchai, maybe the seeds of what evolved into her hybrid training method that we see today?

      Thanks! I did see that she dropped into Thailand for a bit then. I cut that part of the video, since I wasn’t sure how long she was there- based on social media I thought it looked like she was there for about a week as she was trekking from China to the US February of 2020 (From to China to Thailand to Abu Dhabi to Vegas). But it could have been later-posts and maybe she was there longer!

    Fun fact: Zhang was at a gym and saw Josh Hinger teaching a class. She was inpressed and asked for some quick lessons.
    Zhang was so impressed that she offered Josh a coaching job.
    Josh had another gig but he canceled his flight and took the offer.
    Not sure how true but he claims he was showing Zhang the submission she did on Esparza. Its on a podcast if you want to listen

  • @synchrowing5791

    It looks like the trainers at bangtao also let her core group of coaches and team attend classes. Do you think many gyms would even let that happen?

    • @mmaecosystem
      @mmaecosystem  10 месяцев назад +3

      I think that honestly helps with the integration if her personal coaches are getting a solid understanding of what’s being taught, so they’re all on the same page!

    • @synchrowing5791
      @synchrowing5791 10 месяцев назад +1

      @@mmaecosystem I agree. Its definitely different that her head coach is open minded enough to even do that. I train at a gym and they don't like it when other people cross train.

    What kind of video is this? Zhang and her fanboys keep painting Zhang like some sort of technical genius. Zhang just moves forward with her chin up in the air and is just a brawler. Luke Thomas and Brian Campbell and c99 (wmma expert) even said so. STOP TALKING ABOUT ZHANG SHES NOT AS GOOD AS YOU THINK SHE IS

    • @high5786
      @high5786 10 месяцев назад +16

      And she keeps winning impressively. Tucking your chin doesn't turn you into a champion. Just keep your little theory to your daughter
