  • When a turkey hunter understands the Pecking order of
the Wild Turkey then they can many times use
that order in a flock of turkeys to Call in Stubborn Gobblers.

Something that I have learned and I try to keep in my mind to keep my confidence up is, most of the time it won't work...but it might.

I didn't realize the yelps I was doing on my box call was a gobbler. Don't use a box much, but I have killed some with it. I do the slower cadence. One memorable hunt, first one I killed with it, nothing was calling and it was mid morning, I used the box one time and sat down with a boy I had with me turkey hunting for the first time. We had moved around owl calling and using a slate. We were eating and not really in hunt mode. About 10 minutes later a gobbler hammered above us at a field. He heard me, but waited until he was in his strutt zone to gobble. We slipped up to the edge and set up he was out there strutting and hammering with the sun on him at 100 yards. I did one soft hen yelp and he came right in.

I LOVE arguing with hens and having them lead a tom past me. I have one particular thick nesting area along a ditch that has given me a lot of gobblers over the years but it only works once or twice a season at most at that spot.
I’ve never had as much luck with gobbler yelping but I know the principle. Great video Matt

Works good for me late morning. Walking logging roads, ridges, powerlines. I want to sound like that searching Gobbler. Good information here today.

Thanks Matt for all your great info. Gearing up for season start here in Montana. I’ve have good luck over the years hunting mid morning by making the boss hen mad. Invariably she will come storming in bringing the Tom in tow. Thanks again. Looking forward to your next video.

Great video. I was wondering if Spring Fever will be coming back out with more Hybrid Box Calls before Turkey season starts. I tried to get one but they have been out if stock for two weeks now.

If you are chasing Easterns you have to just keep at it. Learn each season, become a better woodman and enjoy the experience.

Just try new things until you find what works. Sometimes it's nothing your doing either, you could be doing everything right but the turkey simply just doesn't want to come. Don't give up though
