- Sourced a running engine, but things definitely didn't go as expected when I tore it open. Also discuss my build planes. I forgot to mention its not JUST rods and seals. We will be decking the block and head, using OEM piston rings, a stage boundary oil pump, and some other goodies.
This series has been super awesome to watch, even though you're having trouble- shoot man it makes great content. I hope you get the car back on the road soon! I'm gonna get a Kraken kit and hopefully not have these problems; BUT if i do- you've got great videos of the fixings! Thanks Connor!
No problem having extra parts! btw I got my rods and pistons in the mail for my 1.6 . Glad you are moving ahead with this build. I got a 1.8 oil stud and cooler/warmer for mine. Also going to try and run a crank sensor to plug the cam sensor.. then maybe I can run a regular 1.6 exhaust cam on my intake?? Anyway. See you at the dragon
Just swapped my high mile 1.6 SNC with a good 1.6 LNC as well. Just did a reseal and threw it in. I turbo'd my high mile 1.6 and it ate it alive in about 1k miles - totally fine as I expected it to happen. Used mostly OEM stuff (all OEM seals) except the timing stuff & water pump - would recommend not using the gates water pump because it's the stamped steel impeller instead of the cast impeller, I might change it out down the road.
Yeah my 180k mile SNC didn’t mind the boost. Been pushing 8 psi for a solid 5000 miles, maybe more. It only ate the bearings when I ran it with no oil pressure.
5:30 "This car's gonna kill me, man" . I guess it feels like that, but as an old codger and with the seven vehicles I am responsible for, be grateful you don't have a Euro of any kind. The Merc and BMW just kill me. The two Kawasakis and three Mazdas I have are easy (although the access in the Mazda van is only for youngsters) So hang in there, it'll be worth it.
