When my children were young, a friend who was moving asked us to take her poodle. I was not thrilled because, to me, poodles were silly dogs with their fancy haircuts. After he came to live with us, I just got a kennel cut for him. He turned out to be the greatest dog. He loved the kids, riding in a boat, swimming, whatever we were doing, he joined in. Everyone competed to see which of us he'd sleep with every night. I don't think he had a grouchy bone in his body. I miss him.
Poodles originated as a breed used for hunting around water! And that stupid lion cut originated as a streamlined design to help them swim faster. Personally, I like them in a generic even-length puppy cut. Poodles are ridiculously clever, too, in the top ten breeds for working intelligence. We have a cockerdoodle in the family and he's a very funny character who knows he's a person and will join in your conversations (especially if you mention cheese). :D
AAAAAAHHHHH!!!! PAAAAAIIIINNNN!!!!!! I broke my hand yesterday because of the hate comments I get all the time. I was so angry that I punched a hole in my computer. Please don't hate me, dear jam

Poodle was my first guess, actually. Although that's just because they're the only dog breed I can name that are that curly. I think poodles are great dogs.
The most interesting poodle fact I ever learned was that traditional cut for poodles actually served a purpose. Some parts shaved for mobility, and some parts covered for warmth. People like to forget that poodles were originally a working breed just like retrievers. Very cool dog that I was unfairly biased against when I was a kid lol.
Yeah, it's the sterotypically snooty Humans that have been associated with the elegant, intelligent, highly trainable (etc.) standad poodle, that have put a damper on the general view of them (IMO). My elderly father had one until recently and she was truly a "lady" that could jump like a gazelle, and an honorary service dog (so patient and gentle and happy )to my mother's dementia facility (rest in peace Mom )
Yep, they were originally hunting dogs that were bred to hunt water fowl. The patches of fur left on the traditional poodle cut were left to keep certain areas of the body warm when they would dive into the water to retrieve birds that were killed in the water. They also have webbed feet for swimming. I used to have a poodle mix. She was the sweetest, smartest, and most protective dog. I used to take her to a park with a small lake and she would go crazy trying to chase after the ducks. She didn't care about squirrels or cats all that much and left my smaller animals alone, but she was obsessed with ducks, true to her breed.
I didn't understand why my dogs' haircuts were more expensive than mine, until I started watching your videos. Thanks for giving me a better understanding and appreciation of what you do and how hard you work!
I think she's mentioned it before, but she also does things that she doesn't put in the videos, like expressing anal glands (she has shown ear cleaning, so you should have some idea that there's often more to it than what she does with the fur/hair). And yeah, that not a pleasant thing to have to do. So, if you weren't thinking about that ... well, sorry that you are now, but it's important to realize that she's doing some really icky stuff as well as the hard work involved in washing/combing/trimming the dog's hair.
@@hi-ve1cw there is a gland in the dog's anus that i think is their "scent gland" ie: the reason why dogs smell each other's butts. it creates and releases the "scent discharge" in some mucousy form, that rubs off as their poo exits, and sometimes it manages to get clogged where the gland cannot discharge properly. this can produce swelling as the gland continues creating more mucous while the previous amount has been unable to exit the gland due to a clog of some sort. this can eventually result in the dogs anal gland rupturing and being quite dangerous and painful to the dog. a lot of groomers make it a habit to carefully squeeze the gland to get out any mucous buildup that may exist before it becomes a problem. most owners dont even know that this gland exists.
I have a similar haired dog that is 5 years old, I trained him to behave similarly, and I can tell you, he doesn't know what's going on and he hates it 🤡
A lot of poodles are like this when being groomed especially if you get them from a good breeder who starts desensitization at 3 weeks. Its important to do because grooming takes up a big part of their life, they have to go every 4-6 weeks sometimes 6-8 it all depends on whether or not you decide to keep up on maintenance like your supposed to or the type of cut you pup gets. I have a standard poodle and she goes every 6 weeks she's a service dog so I make sure she looks clean and put together. They're a beautiful breed all around!
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!
Poodles are amazing pets and very well behaved I have 2 poodles myself 1 white and 1 red. Once I saw him I knew that it was a standard poodle and I was correct.
poodles don't loose hairs means that you brush them every day or they getting matted. Also you must groom poodles every months. It's a routine for poodles that the reason why the so calm. But poodles are a very expensive dog for the owners.
I actually really like this haircut you gave him, way more than the "standard" look for a Poodle. He was so well behaved, especially considering it was such a long session!
@@sarahbasto6520 My thoughts too...poodles have beautiful faces. Shame that so many people want to hide them behind a bunch of hair (which will inevitably become dirty after a day or two and be a massive pain to maintain).
He looked exactly like a poodle. The whole time I was wondering what on earth he could be besides a poodle. lol Regardless, he is absolutely gorgeous. I’ve never wanted to hug a dog so badly. He just looks so soft. ☺️
My exact thought process throughout the video. The only other guess I had was a poodle-schnauzer-mix, but I wasn't convinced lol. Tbf I have a mini poodle who I also groom in the teddy bear way and people always ask which breed he is. On top of his cut he is a harlekin (black and white) which confuses people even more, because many people don't know that there are multicolored poodles
@@LeaRahelsRezensionen for a bit I was like, there's no way she's hyping up having people try to guess only for it to be a poodle, that's the EASIEST guess, what else is it?? Maybe a water dog? I've seen some water dogs with that fur consistency... "He is a standard poodle, not all of them have to look like poodles" WH WHAT DO YOU MEAN HE LOOKS EXACTLY LIKE A POODLE???
My thought too. I thought she was trying to trick us and I was wondering if Cider was a Kerry Blue Terrier or a Portuguese Water Dog (I will say he really does look like one in his before picture)
@@LeaRahelsRezensionen i went down the exact same trajectory: "obvs poodle surely -- or wait maybe not given we're not meant to know -- err -- poodle-schnauzer mix maybe -- no, come on, it's a damn poodle"
I thought I was a dog lover until I watched a lot of her videos. God bless this woman because there is NO way I would have the patience and mental strength to do this every day.
Can't recall where I read or heard it from, but someone was saying most dog lovers just actually really love their own dogs. Upon thinking about it, I realized I'm one of those: I don't wish any animal harm and would help a dog in distress, but I only really love my boy. I know I don't have the patience to get a job dealing with either animals or children.
i will say poodle usually tend to be a fairly easy breed to groom behavior wise. Poodles have to start VERY young and be groomed on a regular basis. I groom mine myself every 3-6 weeks (Depends on the season, I let the coat grow out in the winter). They quickly have to adapt and get used to grooming because of how EXTREMLY high maintainace their coat is. I spent months perfecting my poodle cut before realizing I hate how it looks on my dog. I just do a standard flat buzz, less work, less fru fru and so much easier to maintain.
Clearly it has been some time in between in his last grooming. It appears as if he knew it as well. The behavior and patience of this dog is above and beyond awesome.
@@wjjshfbfbeb2855 if you have an asshole dog, you can most certainly chalk that up to the owner. If you have a nice dog, you can mostly certainly chalk that up to the owner.
I love poodles! Forty-plus years ago, I worked in a Doggie Salon as the washer/dryer and I loved that job. My favorite dogs to work on were the poodles, the young excitable ones just needed me to work a little slower, reassure them a lot, and help them calm down by being as calm as I could be. The older poodles had already figured this out for themselves and were a joy to work with. I'm a newbie, but I love your channels!
I’ve had two standard poodles in my life and they’ve been the most wonderful dogs! They’re extremely intelligent both in problem-solving and emotional intelligence. To anybody who’s on the fence about getting a poodle, I would highly recommend it. They’re great with kids, guests, other dogs, and anyone you would bring around them. Truly a 10/10 dog breed
Biggest disadvantage of getting a poodle is the coat groom costs actually! My grandma learned to do it herself just to save some extra cash and ended up grooming all the dogs in the poodle breeding club.
My gramps had a poodle. We called him brandy, he was a violent dog. He seemed to have short term memory loss because every time he saw me, he barked. He bit me a couple of times. He's the reason why I was afraid of dogs for most of my childhood. Btw I lived in my grandparent's house during my childhood, so whenever I would go to get something out of the fridge or come home from school, the dog was always terrifying.
@@CarrotFlowers421 they think poodles are too effeminate. The continental cut is what everything thinks yet this was a functional cut for water fowl retrieval. Yet all the designer dogs are bred with poodles and look like poodles and behave like poodles. Weird.
For me, one of the most satisfying thing is tidying up the "grinch feet". I like how I always know what comes next after the paw pads and how cute the paws look after a clean cut 🤗
YES EXACTLY! I follow Blair Braverman, a Musher, on Twitter. One of her funniest dogs is named Grinch, & the shenanigans he gets himself into are a treat. Whenever I know the “Grinch Feet” is imminent, I think of that total goofball. It’s the highlight of my day.
I had a poodle for 16.5 years since he was born. Poodles are the best dogs anyone could ever want-very intelligent, carrying, sensitive, friendly, and playful- a total joy to have around. He was one of my best friends I ever had! I still miss him to this day❤😢❤.
at this library they had free mini therapy sessions when i was younger, so once in a while my mom & i went, there was the sweetest poodle named arielle, beautiful soft fluffy grey coat and a very nice older lady, she read me books while i just pet arielle, i would read books too which helped me speak infront of people, im very grateful for both of them, poodles are one of the sweetest breeds ive ever met
I said this in another post, but its more than likely because of just how often poodles have to be groomed that they get used to it. To keep a healthy coat while preventing matting of the hair they need to be groomed every 3-6 weeks. They go so often they get used to it from a very young age.
I feel like standard poodles are so underrated. they're very intelligent dogs. a lady who used to come to my work had a white standard poodle & he was just a big sweetheart who loved attention
I recognized him instantly! Though we bred them when I was a kid, so I recognize these gorgeous things every time. Especially once you said teddy bear cut. My mum always avoided having a pitch-black one ourselves because she didn't want to have to squint to see between the toes to shave and clip. Our breeding lass was snow white, and we ended up with an apricot stud later.
Ohhh Apricot are rare, very nice! My mom bred teacup and later then miniature Poodles. She also had a male & female Chocolate but sold the male for stud. We kept the Chocolate female as a pet, she was so CHILL ❤
I actually really like the prissy poodle cut on standard poodles! It looks cool. But I REALLY love the teddy look. Especially on the mini and teacup varieties. Makes them look like a living stuffed animal! You did such an amazing job 👀 The pet of the day stole my heart!
Smallest variety of poodles is called Toy Poodle! From what I’ve gathered, “teacup” is just a cute label to put on puppies who are the runt of the litter, born too early, or malnourished (sometimes deliberately) and therefore smaller and less developed than they should be. Not trying to lecture you or anything..! I just don’t like the craze over “teacup” dogs... and I just love Toy poodles! I used to groom my Toy myself, super fun to be able to try out different styles, hehe.
@@OrangeMilks You're absolutely right about "teacup" breeds. Unfortunately, there are unscrupulous dog breeders and sellers out there. Although I believe the majority of breeders are good and decent and have the animals' best interests at heart.
Believe it or not the "prissy poodle cut" had its purpose back in the day. The poodle is the original hunting dog and that way of grooming it was to protect the joints from the cold and ice. Much like the Labrador, the poodle is a very strong hunter.
Absolutely. They're some of the most laid-back dogs I've ever met, and insanely smart on top of that. Poodle mixes tend to introduce some wild unpredictability as far as temperament and allergy-friendliness - I know at least one goldendoodle that is basically all golden and no doodle. And on the other end of the spectrum, we had a cockapoo that physically was a miniature poodle but had all the jealous temperament of a cocker spaniel. Woe betide you if you came home smelling of another dog.
Doodles are mostly backyard bred and have health/behavioral problems. If you want any curly furred dog, just get a poodle! There should’ve never been a stigma against them as pompous or anything. It’s so bad that any standard people that doesn’t have the stereotypical fro cut are often mistaken for “doodles”.
In my experience, standard poodles are almost always a delight to groom. We had a 6month standard come in the other day, who’s never been groomed, and he was still very well behaved. I love these dogs, and I hope this video helps people realize you don’t need a doodle to get the cute teddy bear look!
They're incredibly smart dogs - probably would make the top of the list in dog intelligence tests if they weren't looking specifically for dogs that are willing to please and easily trainable. Because poodles are neither - they are stubborn, independent, and do not like being ordered around. They're liable to train you more than you train them if you're not meticulously careful, and they can and will outsmart you on a regular basis. That said, most of them I've had or met were also very sweet-natured and friendly, and really didn't like getting their ire up. They mostly went along to get along unless you were doing something they really didn't like. In fact, the only "poodle" I've had problems with was a cocker spaniel-miniature poodle mix that had horrendous jealousy issues and would throw a snit if she smelled another dog on you.
@@vicroc4 I don’t know where you’ve heard that poodles were independent and not eager to please? They’re extremely people oriented. They can be stubborn, but they can also be extremely biddable.. And they are ranked the #2 most intelligent breed I have no idea what you’re talking about.
GWTD: "I'll tell you what breed he is at the end of the video" Me: "He looks like a full size poodle." GWTD: "He's a poodle. That's right, poodles don't have to look like poodles." Me: "But he DOES look like a poodle."
I thought he was just another doodle. Every poodle at the shop I work at has owners that want a tight face. A couple of them get a top knot as well. All of our doodles get this look, in varying lengths and with a slightly tighter face usually
As someone who grew up with standard poodles (my mother adores them) the “mystery” of this breed really confused me haha! I guess most folks really do just think of a specific cut when they think of the dog
Same, had an uncle who had a standard poodle that pretty much looked identical to this one, so that was my first thought as well, though that didn't explain the mystery part
I've seen lots of people in other channels assume all dogs with this cut are doodles. I'm not surprised a dog grooming channel has so many people who know what an actual poodle looks like!
Well he has really nice fur tight fur. We use to have poodles and we just kept them in a puppy clip instead of show type clip. I think what make this dog look like something else is all the fur on his nose when that is normally more shaved down.
@@MM-jf1meWhat is decieving for most people is how there is so much fur around the nose. That is usually shaved down so people are use to seeing the long nose and this look sort does make him look like he is mixed with something. However the rest of him including that nice tight fur say poodle. If the owners just brush him everyday for 10 minutes she would not have needed 4 hours grooming him either. Dog like this really need to be brushed everyday. In fact all dogs should be brushed even short hair dogs. It help get lose fur off, massage the skin, help find and exam for fleas and tick and help with bonding. If you start early most dogs do not mind being brushed andsee it as a good thing especially when they get a yummy treat afterwards.
@@JAM661 I love the look of a shaved poodle snout and I love the look of the overgrown Muppet snout -- it just really bothers me when I see a neglected dog like this one. It's really sad how matted she was. I wish more owners took matting seriously, as the potentially dangerous neglect it is (e.g., when it starts pulling on skin, collects and holds urine or fecal matter close to the dog's skin, hides parasites, etc.).
I assumed it must’ve been some rare breed that looked exactly like a standard poodle & you were trying to trick us 😂 I’d love to see a standard schnauzer getting groomed if you can find one! There’s so many videos on minis but not much on standards!
Poodle was my first guess, but then I was like, "no she's not telling us, so that can't be right, it's too obvious!" haha, glad to see I was right after all (p.s. Cider is wonderful)
Yes I saw Cider and was like Oh yeah a poodle and then she was saying she would be saying at the end and I was like Hmmm Ummm???? Still looks like a standard poodle to me? May be a mix???
He certainly looks like a poodle who doesn't have the standard poodle cut (which is popular lately because a standard poodle can look a lot like a Labradoodle but costs significanty less)
So adorable! My Mom really wants a standard poodle. If I ever move back in with her, something that will only happen if her husband passes away, I plan on adopting one. She can’t take care of one herself but I’m perfectly able to. So cute! Edit: To clarify for anybody concerned. I’m an experienced dog owner, having owned several large breeds my entire life. The training for them were left mostly to me as well. I actually convinced my Mom to Not get a SP on her own. This would be My dog, that I would fully train, as well as teach how to act around a senior with some mobility issues. Also my Mom was easy to convince as she grew up around English Mastifs herself, as well as the dogs we got. Just never was responsible for them. So it was easy to show her she’s not up for that on her own. They’re just her favourite dog. Like my favourites are Shibas and Newfies.
If they are the one taking care of the dog it is theirs, not their mom's They are able to care for it and let their mom enjoy the company without the responsibility which is pretty wholesome if you ask me
@@bindingcurve Some do, some don't. If you go through a reputable experienced breeder you can increase your chances of getting matched with one who has a middle of the road energy level. Also a lot of people mistake their mental exercise needs for physical exercise needs. It's not uncommon for an owner who has been running themselves ragged trying to exercise the mischief out only to realize later they could have spent half an hour on fun training exercises with the same or better results.
I love standard Poodles. They are one of the brightest and, by far, the most sociable of dogs. The only issue with training them is they really, really want to meet every person they see. I used to see a poodle who was a seeing eye dog and you could tell by the look in his eyes it was practically killing him to refrain from going up and down the train car to make friends with everybody.
that is SOooooo true about the Standard Poodle. I have several. They need to "meet and greet" every person they see. Very gregarious dogs. They are sweet tempered and have a sense of humor.
Cider definitely looks like a poodle to me. You had me second guessing he might be a poodle mix (like 3/4ths poodle, one part lab or something) but his body type and fur type are definitely poodle!
Yeah my dog is 3/4 poodle and 1/4 lab and the only part that gives away she may not be a poodle is a part of her snoot and her tail, so most people who aren’t actually looking looking just assume she’s a poodle. But I’ve gotten good at telling the doodles from the poodles. I started second guessing that maybe this was a super bred back doodle that was like 1/16 lab or something and the rest poodle. Cause I was like “wait, I know that isn’t a 50/50 doodle or even a 75/25. Maybe it’s a different breed entirely??”
Sider was so happy to be there. I got the impression it's one of his favorite "go-to" place. In fact, he seemed so happy that making that his new home would come as no surprise. Cute!
for a dog that takes so much work to groom, he had amazing behaviour! props to the owners and groomers who helped this adorable pup get to this point ^^
Grooming my poodle myself makes me very very appreciative of the work all groomers do. Also thanks to you I have the absolute best slicker brush and it’s made our life so so so much better.
My parents had the tallest standard poodle I’ve ever seen. He looked like a cream colored Big Bird when he smiled🥰 Bailey was the sweetest dog, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. We watched him often as they went to Florida and then after one trip, he didn’t go home. He loved us more, we all loved him, one of our basset hounds was the love of his life, so he lived the rest of his very happy life with us. The best part about him, the groomer was at the Vet’s. He’d run in, all excited, throwing flowers, dancing, greeting everyone! It was hilarious. The only dog I’ve ever met who loved the Vet’s office. I miss our Bailey boy❤️
I was torn between Standard Poodle and Portuguese Water Dog!! 😂 I know Poodles can get super fluffy when their coats are allowed to grow out but his build reminded me of a PWD.
Poodles are the French/German water dog, and are supposed to be the nearest relative to the Portuguese and Spanish water dogs, so it totally makes sense that they look so similar!
Cider is a sweetheart! He will feel like a new dog with his lovely spring haircut (my 10yo Old English Sheepdog used to bounce around like a lamb when he had his spring groom)
Wow! Impressive work! My grandmother, raised and bred poodles. They were wonderful family dogs with high intellect - which made them intuitive, warm, and sensitive. Believe me when I tell you, poodles can read people, and ‘read the room.’ It’s an impressive breed, that isn’t appreciated enough.
What a freakin' amazing well behaved dog. Poodles (mini, standard or giant) were always the best behaved of the breeds I had come into my shop. But anyone who thinks that its easy to get through those mats, has never tried to groom, de-mat and comb/brush out a matted coat. Super job on this gorgeous guy.
Oh yeah. It's a real trial. I decided to learn how to spin so I could make yarn out of my poodles' hair, and holy cow has that been an education. Poodle hair, it turns out, may resemble sheep's wool, but it is infinitely worse to try and spin because of its tendency to mat. It mats if you even look at it funny. Carding it was a nightmare, and I had to throw away about half of the doggy fleece because the mats were just impossible. I learned lessons I will employ on the next spring "shearing", like don't do pure poodle -- blend it with wool or something -- but man, now I understand. I also belatedly learned that professional spinners who do "chiengora" (dog hair yarn) either charge extra for poodle or flat out refuse to touch it. It's that much of a pain. Worth it, though, for keepsakes that we'll cherish when they're gone. ;-)
What an incredibly well behaved boy! He must be used to this by now. It's so clear he trusts you completely when you're right in his eyes and mouth with the scissors like that.
Standard Poodle. Uncut tail. Probably one of the best behaved, most intelligent, and loyal dogs in the world. They also have hair rather than fur so are hypoallergenic. My family used to train them for obedience.
Yep its always why they are so often crossbred with other breeds. Poodles hair tends to be a dominate trait resulting in doodles with the same type of hair.
The first dog that was ever “mine” was my stepdads grey standard poodle “ Chaka Khan” haha. At first, he was mean, and there was this huge strange dog (my mom very suddenly left my dad and took us to move in his home, I was 6) and eventually that dog was the ONLY thing homey about where we lived. She was SO sweet and smart and patient-she let me and my younger brother dress her up in our clothes when we were kids lol, and I learned to teach her how to jump up and dance with me on command and she’d literally stand up and put her paws in mine right up until she was 16 and her body was getting old she was a puppy at heart. She walked me to my school bus everyday and met us back home all the way until I was 16. She was the best-my mom and dad put her down without TELLING ME….I just remember not tripping over her at the top of the stairs and asked and they told me. Can’t believe how emotional that made me remembering her like that lol… I didn’t have a dog until 10 years later and he’s a rescue pittie left in a box, and I’ve always told my husband I hope we can have both someday, they’d have the best time, and I think they’d bring out the best in each others playful goofy neediness. RIP CHAKA!
I'm so sorry for your loss, that's terrible that you didn't get the chance to say goodbye. I know how that feels, it happened to me too. I'm glad you found it in yourself to adopt another dog
I'm not sure how old you are, but animals were treated differently when I was growing up. Dogs were animals who stayed outside and you didn't bond with them. Maybe your step dad grew up with that same paradigm and didn't realize how bonded you were with your dog.
i taught my standard poodle to jump up and dance with me too when i was a kid haha, they really are amazing breeds. im so glad i got the pleasure of growing up with one and i will definitely miss him forever :)
I love how siders looks like he enjoy the grooming so much, as if he's saying, "yes yes my pawrent paid my luxury appointment so my luscious locks will stay amazing"
They are a wonderful breed I love poodles, so intelligent and emotionally intuitive. I’ve seen them often as therapy dogs due to their gentleness and intuitive nature. They are also expensive to keep groomed, unless you know how to do it yourself, which is why most people I know that have standard poodles are pet groomers themselves, lolz
I'm not a pet groomer, but I do have 2 poodles and a doodle.....At $300 a month for the three of them (and thats on the low end) I taught myself very very quickly. I just watched RUclips videos and practiced and practiced until I got it right. Those first few months they looked haggard as hell with their hair cuts but now its just great!
I knew he was a standard! Our big standard boy is an apricot in a teddy bear cut and gets mistaken for a goldendoodle all the time. So smart, so well behaved and so goofy, he's the perfect companion for our golden retriever.
My first thought was standard poodle. I haven’t seen one in person since the 1970’s. A neighbor around the block from my grandmother’s house had 2, one white and one black. They were very tall and did tricks, like hopping/walking on two feet.
"guess the breed." Immediately: poodle. Not a complete shot in the dark, my mom's raised toy poodles all her life and while obviously they're not exactly the same, there's a general vibe this dog was giving off.
"Pleasantly pissed-off", lol! The featured kitty was cute. And I correctly guessed Cider's breed. I've seen more poodles like him than the cliche ones you see in kids cartoons like in Oliver and Company (yeah, that's a throwback!)
I was just gonna say! But I also live in Sweden where it tends to be kinda cold so I always thought that was the reason for keeping some length to the hair. And btw wouldn't "Pleasantly Pissed-off" be a great sticker/shirt/merch of some kind?! I would LOVE to wear a hoodie with that stamped on!
I grew up going to an Antiques store with my mom that had a standard that looked just like Cider, so it was an easy guess. That dog was so awesome with my sister and me. We were 5 and 7 (till 10) and he let us do anything. Thanks for sharing 👍
He’s so tolerant. Sometimes with even these mild mats, does don’t tolerate brushing them out as he did, so you have to choose to either shave or clearly hurt the dog! Your groomer knows best!!
In Brazil, people professionally groom dogs like that weekly, so the fur gets as soft and perfect as possible. Seeing your work, I admire the people who work with those dogs even more
Eu não entendo como eles deixam o cachorro ficar todo sujo como os que aparecem aqui. Deve ser o nosso costume de tomar banho frequentemente e nós passamos isso para os cachorros hahahaha
I love the continental cut, it's a lot of work to keep up with but I love the fluff! They were originally bred as hunting dogs and the hair poofs were meant to protect their joints from the impact of water.
What a nice boy. My dog would so freak out with the scissors by his face. This boy looks "bomb proof". I have never been a poodle fan, but seeing one done like this, I may be changing my mind. Although, I don't think that I could afford one. lol Thank you so much for sharing what you do with everyone. I enjoy watching your channel so much. Happy Grooming. !!!
If you look hard enough and wait long enough you can find them in shelters where they’re already spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and most of the time, house trained. I adopted my Bichon/poodle mix from my local shelter last year after looking for months. she’s the best girl and i love her so much💖
What a relaxed good boy, and such curly fur. I've always found standard poodles to be lovely dogs, and Cider certainly shows that wonderful patience as you trimmed his muzzle.
I met a huuuuge pedigree-certified ex-show dog un-neutered standard poodle before when I was around 15. He belonged to my mother's friend. As someone raised with cats, I didn't really like dogs that much, or think they liked or could understand me... before I met him. He was the first dog who seemed to instantly click with me and created unforgettable memories for me that day. I really hope he's still alive and well.
I remember being at a small social event in college and there was a girl with an assistance poodle who looked just like Cider! At one point, the girl felt secure enough to take his harness off for a bit to allow us to pet him, and he was just the softest sweetest gentleman ever 🥰
It always makes me nervous to see scissors around a dog's face and AMAZED when the dog just sits there and allows it like this one did. Your in-depth knowledge of the tools and the processes that you use and all the nuances of each illustrate your above average level of professionalism. I've heard what some people pay to have their dog groomed and, until I saw your show, I never thought it was worth it. CLEARLY, you are worth whatever you charge.
When the title said "Guess this breed of dog" I thought it'd be a trick question, but my thought was "standard poodle" immediately. Poodles are very sweet and well-mannered dogs. Hypoallergentic, too.
Poodles actually aren’t hypoallergenic, neither are doodles. They might not shed like most dogs but they still produce dander and allergens that will flair up allergies
@@ciani2396 I think most people understand hypoallergenic to mean “less allergenic” rather than “allergy free”. My wife is quite allergic to most dogs (including most doodles) but has had zero issues with our standard poodle
Growing up my neighbor had a standard poodle. Had to be one of the smartest dogs I've ever met. Did tricks I couldn't believe were possible. Friendly and loving too.
I knew straight away what kind of dog he is and I love how he looked afterwards. If I had a dog of that breed, that is what I would like him or her to look like. Love your channel, I'm learning loads. 🥰

I miss him.
I didn't like Boston....until I met violet she was the sweetest most LOVABLE baby 💜 I miss her
Poodles originated as a breed used for hunting around water!

I agree 💯💯
Not an expert but obviously a poodle.
It's amazing how silly we humans can make a dog look. Pink hair dye tends to have that effect.😁
@@spectralumbra1568 Poodles are among the smartest breeds!
All those old cartoons that portrayed them as snooty French women, are to blame.
Also, it's unlikely that you'll bite your stylist, or have an "accident" in the chair!
Not to mention a human haircut usually only involves the hair on your head, as opposed to a doggy haircut which involves the entire body.

Right! He actually seems to be enjoying most of the process. ^~^
This world is rapidly passing away and I hope that you repent and take time to change before all out disaster occurs! i will say poodle usually tend to be a fairly easy breed to groom behavior wise.

My favorite dogs to work on were the poodles, the young excitable ones just needed me to work a little slower, reassure them a lot, and help them calm down by being as calm as I could be. The older poodles had already figured this out for themselves and were a joy to work with.

my ex's aunt didn't train hers properly so it was a very annoying dog. not the dogs fault but moreso the owner
Biggest disadvantage of getting a poodle is the coat groom costs actually! My grandma learned to do it herself just to save some extra cash and ended up grooming all the dogs in the poodle breeding club.
I just don't see why the folks influenced by the doodle craze don't just get a poodle.
My gramps had a poodle. We called him brandy, he was a violent dog. He seemed to have short term memory loss because every time he saw me, he barked. He bit me a couple of times. Man I love standard poodles. I know everyone loves doodles, but you just can't beat the OG when it comes to temperament and allergy friendliness.
Hello 👋
Pleasant to read!

They are able to care for it and let their mom enjoy the company without the responsibility which is pretty wholesome if you ask me
@@bindingcurve Some do, some don't.
Standards are literally everyone's best friend, some people just need the poodle to remind them lol
OMG he’s so well behaved !!
He’s not moving or anything and is so cooperative guy !!! Love ❤️ this !!!
Cider definitely looks like a poodle to me. You had me second guessing he might be a poodle mix (like 3/4ths poodle, one part lab or something) but his body type and fur type are definitely poodle!
My second-guessing self thought he could be a Bouvier des Flandres mix, too.
My second-guessing had me thinking Portuguese Water Dog.
That was me too. Second guessing but went back to a poodle.
Cute!
We had a standard poodle, sweet Tobi! She was rescued from the pound. We loved her. RIP Tobi
I'm so sorry for your loss but happy she had a loving home. 😇💕
for a dog that takes so much work to groom, he had amazing behaviour! props to the owners and groomers who helped this adorable pup get to this point ^^
The pawpads are my highlight too. So satisfying to watch!
Free the beans!
I loved the "Shields up" at 1:02 ! This dog is so calm. He has a great temperament.
I was torn between Standard Poodle and Portuguese Water Dog!! 😂 I know Poodles can get super fluffy when their coats are allowed to grow out but his build reminded me of a PWD.
Yo, someone who thought of Portuguese Water Dog (I said Spaniel instead of Dog) 😁
Even I thought it was the Portugese Water Dog.
That's what I thought, when his hair was long he looked like Bo Obama, so I thought PWD
Poodles are the French/German water dog, and are supposed to be the nearest relative to the Portuguese and Spanish water dogs, so it totally makes sense that they look so similar!
@@kmcalary Yes, Bo Obama 😄 I was thinking of that dog
Cider is a sweetheart! He will feel like a new dog with his lovely spring haircut (my 10yo Old English Sheepdog used to bounce around like a lamb when he had his spring groom)
Wow! Impressive work! My grandmother, raised and bred poodles. They were wonderful family dogs with high intellect - which made them intuitive, warm, and sensitive. Believe me when I tell you, poodles can read people, and ‘read the room.’ It’s an impressive breed, that isn’t appreciated enough.
He was so patient and well behaved through the whole groom and looked ever so handsome at the end!
Worth it, though, for keepsakes that we'll cherish when they're gone. ;-)
@@calliarcale Wow, thanks for this interesting bit of information!
Chaka Khan was an amazing loss and a friend to you . So sad for your loss 💔
I’d never forgive them. RIP
i taught my standard poodle to jump up and dance with me too when i was a kid haha, they really are amazing breeds. im so glad i got the pleasure of growing up with one and i will definitely miss him forever :)
That's the most well-behaved pet featured on this channel. I wouldn't have been able to resist the urge to hug him!
I love how siders looks like he enjoy the grooming so much, as if he's saying, "yes yes my pawrent paid my luxury appointment so my luscious locks will stay amazing"
“Pawrent”
Lol 😂
@MasterZen this comment is so amazing. The fact that you got triggered by such a well meaning comment and you spelled English wrong. Just amazing 👏
lmao how old are you dude
Cider**** tf
They are a wonderful breed
I love poodles, so intelligent and emotionally intuitive.
I like how people mistake a overpriced mutt that's usually 75% poodle for anything but a poodle.
The cat of the day was so adorable and doesn’t look a day over 6!
My first thought was standard poodle. I haven’t seen one in person since the 1970’s. A neighbor around the block from my grandmother’s house had 2, one white and one black. They were very tall and did tricks, like hopping/walking on two feet.
I've been watching a bunch of your videos and this was the most well-behaved and calm dog ever! Omgosh, he looked so cute when you were done!
"guess the breed."
Immediately: poodle. Not a complete shot in the dark, my mom's raised toy poodles all her life and while obviously they're not exactly the same, there's a general vibe this dog was giving off.
yeah it looks like a poodle dont know why it was supposed to be a big reveal. She had me over thinking it so i guessed labradoodle.
Yea seemed too good to be a doodle lol
@@Kugrox I think the reveal was because so many people only know of toy/miniature poodles
Looks exactly like the standard poodle that lives next door! He really changed my opinion of poodles
@@nolanchill was that in a good way?
I have had poodles most of my life (63 years old now). And I love them.
He’s so tolerant. Sometimes with even these mild mats, does don’t tolerate brushing them out as he did, so you have to choose to either shave or clearly hurt the dog! Your groomer knows best!!
He is such a good boy, and cutie. You did a really good job on him too, he looks as soft as a cloud
Big fwuffy cloud!
In Brazil, people professionally groom dogs like that weekly, so the fur gets as soft and perfect as possible. Seeing your work, I admire the people who work with those dogs even more
I’m firmly in the opinion that a well groomed natural cut is the best poodle cut.
I adopted my Bichon/poodle mix from my local shelter last year after looking for months. she’s the best girl and i love her so much💖
Full size poodles are quite intelligent. Not the pocketbook poodles
@@pambrown6260 those are very smart too. All poodles are very intelligent.
@@pambrown6260 As long as you treat them like an actual living thing and not an accessory toy and mini poodles can be quite intelligent.
@@pambrown6260 I've had toy poodles in the past, they're actually really intelligent little dogs and really sweet natured (well mine were lol).
What a relaxed good boy, and such curly fur. I've always found standard poodles to be lovely dogs, and Cider certainly shows that wonderful patience as you trimmed his muzzle.
If its a poodle, it's hair, not fur.
I really hope he's still alive and well.
you have become my comfort channel, these grooms are so satisfying!
I was absolutely blown away by how well behaved he was when you were working on his face. What a good boy.
I remember being at a small social event in college and there was a girl with an assistance poodle who looked just like Cider! At one point, the girl felt secure enough to take his harness off for a bit to allow us to pet him, and he was just the softest sweetest gentleman ever 🥰
he was so calm... no noise came from this beautiful dog!!!!
The matt splitter looks so similar to an envelope opener. Also, I guessed Poodle 🐩 right away. ✅️
I was thinking it looked like a milk bag opener. :)
@@MrSmotheredHope wait..your milk comes in bags?? How interesting!
Wait just a damn minute! R U saying actual liquid milk, not milk powder, comes In a bag,?
This is the calmest dog I’ve ever seen!! So sweet! You do an amazing job with these animals!
When the title said "Guess this breed of dog" I thought it'd be a trick question, but my thought was "standard poodle" immediately. Poodles are very sweet and well-mannered dogs. Hypoallergentic, too.
Well the Portuguese Water Dog looks very similar to a black poodle his size that’s why
I figured it was mostly poodle, but thought it might be a labradoodle.
@@jimland4359 Labradoodles aren't usually that large and they typically have the stocky lab body. But yeah, at a glance they look like poodles.
Both you and the dog are so patient.
Growing up my neighbor had a standard poodle. Had to be one of the smartest dogs I've ever met. Did tricks I couldn't believe were possible. Friendly and loving too.
My brother basically only adopts standard poodles. I can see why. They are very good bois.
These dogs are just so smart and loving to their owners. You can teach them tricks so fast.
@JayLeeBeanz Plus they don't cause allergies if you are allergic, which is really the tipping point for me.
I knew straight away what kind of dog he is and I love how he looked afterwards. If I had a dog of that breed, that is what I would like him or her to look like.
Love your channel, I'm learning loads. 🥰
Frauke Schmidt. I've learned a lot, too. I intend to order the matt splitter, as I need all the help I can get with my long haired cat.
I guessed poodle right off, couldn't think of anything else.
I have a one year old standard poodle and I love him so much.
Wow, so calm for a four hour stretch. He looks great with the new cut. The pet of the day had a major case of RBF, but still amazing looking for 17! I really enjoy watching your channel and seeing the variety of breeds and personalities that come through your door. Keep up the great work..
I knew he was a poodle. I’d have loved to have seen him prancing in the garden--their gait is so elegant.
He looks exactly like my old standard poodle, Huckleberry. They're a wonderfully smart breed.
I love the name 💕
Our family had two black standard poodles. They were fantastic dogs who loved to play and swim in country rivers. Very laid back and affectionate.
