    Man, i laughed so hard at the story in the middle. Ha! Awesome story. I'm jealous of the store you found, not so much for the books, but for the experience. That had to have been a great feeling for a collector. Like a prospector tapping into a gold vein. Lol. I'm just starting to collect again after a two decade break. Looking forward to hitting some flea markets soon.

    At a car-boot sale over in England I bought a whole stack of X-Factor stuff for £7 (about $10). First appearances of Apocalypse and Archangel in there as well as issues 2 through to 70 and then most of 80-100. Also found the first appearances of Deadpool and Legion somewhere similar in a lot of about 30 books I got for £15. Something tells me the sellers didn't know what they had, and when I first bought them neither did I - I just saw comics and thought they'd be fun to read!

      That's awesome, those two stories exemplify one of the best types of finds: the unexpected and humble haul that spits out a couple nuggets along to go with some fun reading. Thanks for the comment, take care.

      eta nick I don't like the black backgrounds on the interior pages/panels of those punisher war journal books, but the actual panel art is great. Jim Lee, yes. I look forward to sitting down and spending 1-2 hours just reading them all at once.

      @thecomicspreacher3547  9 лет назад +1

      MrGretzky9966 Thanks for the kind words. I just read most of the Batmans and they were fun interesting reads. Not as fluffy as I expected the plot to be....good dense mystery type reads. I am pretty unfamiliar with the spectacular spidey stories so looking forward to reading those too. Action comics is not my favorite, but maybe after reading some of the superman books in this haul I'll change my mind. later on man

    I love Bronze Age books !! That is the era in which I grew up !! I collect comic books , ( and books , magazines , ect. !! ) from 1989 - back !! This is a great haul !! I love coming across the books from that era cheaply !! I just picked up about 120 comics at a buy 1 : Get 1 Free Labor Day Sale !!

    • @thecomicspreacher3547
      @thecomicspreacher3547  8 лет назад

      Buy 1:Get 1 Free sale sounds good to me! What types of books were in that 120 comic stack? I mean, what titles, etc.?

    • @thesilencer1969
      @thesilencer1969 8 лет назад

      Justice League Of America , Alpha Flight , Legends # 1 , Uncanny X - Men , Flash , Some Gold Key , Marvel 2 - in - 1 , All - Star Squadron , Tales Of The Teen Titans , Blue Beetle , some Charlton comics , Star Trek , Marvel Team - Up , Doctor Specktor , and more !! They were / are all in mint condition . I collect the books of my youth . That is why I enjoy videos such as yours so much !! The biggest haul that I got from that store was 200 comic books exactly !! I also bought a big stack of 1980s ( Mostly -- there were a few from the 1970s and 1990s thrown in with them !! ) of Mostly mint Uncanny X - Men !! That was not during their sale , but since the sale would be months away , I bought them all anyway !! They were on fifty cents each at the time . ( They had fifty centers on one side , and dollar books on the other . Now they are ALL dollar books in the bottom shelf .

      +comicKkrakK I think you are the only one to have mentioned Paradax after watching this video. Its one of the many comics from this haul that I have not yet found the time to read, but I'll put it up towards the top of the reading pile now that it has your endorsement. Is Brendan McCarthy your friend, or are you a fan, or both?

    • @comicKkrakK
      @comicKkrakK 8 лет назад

      Naw...Not friends, just one of my favorite weirdo artists. I just found out yesterday that he also dabbled in movies. He was a writer and designer on the latest Mad Max: Fury Road film which was news to me. His style is pretty wacked and the coloring is always intense. I'd never heard of that book so I was excited to have another to add to my list to look for.

    • @thecomicspreacher3547
      @thecomicspreacher3547  8 лет назад

      comicKkrakK Ya, I just heard you talking about his involvement in the new Mad Max. That makes him interesting, all the rest aside. Another artist to get into! There are soo many good ones out there. Not enough time to read them all -- must make the hard choices.

    • @comicKkrakK
      @comicKkrakK 8 лет назад

      it's true but I'm finding that there are a bunch of artists I like that haven't done too much which makes it easy to just collect them all! Must have....more!

    Planet Comics #1 may have been a reprint but that was a new (for the time) cover by Dave Stevens. He's the guy who created The Rocketeer and was famous for drawing beautiful women.

    • @thecomicspreacher3547
      @thecomicspreacher3547  9 лет назад

      Jared Osborn Thanks for that info Jared, I sincerely appreciate the heads up. I liked the Rocketeer movie as a kid, but that is about as far as my experience goes with Dave Stevens, unless he worked on other stuff I've read that I'm just unaware of....quite possible....in any case, I really liked that cover. I'm impressed that it did not come out of the 50's.

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn 9 лет назад

      You can find a lot of really nice Dave Stevens covers on indy books of the 1980s. He was kind of the precursor to Adam Hughes.

    • @thecomicspreacher3547
      @thecomicspreacher3547  9 лет назад

      Jared Osborn Interesting. Only Indies, or did he ever go mainstream?

    • @JaredOsborn
      @JaredOsborn 9 лет назад

      TheComicsPreacher I don't think he ever did much for Marvel or DC. He was certainly famous and talented enough to but I think he worked full time in animation out in L.A. and only did his comics part time. He was only in his 50s when he died in 2008. The very first IDW Artist Edition book from a couple of years ago was of his Rocketeer comics.

    I'm having a bit of a Twilight Zone moment watching this while I've been bagging and boarding 99% of those same comics the past few days. I bought all mine when new and they've been siting in boxes since '96 when I stopped buying comics. Last year, while stuck at home with nothing to do I figured I'd straighten up the garage and do something about all those boxes of comics (about 10,000 books from between '75 and '96.)
    Several years ago I made my first attempt. Bought a comic database program that told you prices. I got about 2-3 long boxes entered and the most expensive book was worth around $44. The vast majority not even worth the cover price. So I said WTF and gave up. Jump to last year and doing some research online and finding sites like Go.Collect, Covrprice, MyComicShop to name a few and I discover the world of dry cleaning and pressing and getting comics graded. I went through some of my X-Men and did a test run with X-Men #120. I sent it out to Avery Comic Pressing, who was nice enough to guide me through the process, and he did his magic and forwarded it to CGC. It came back a 9.8. I hung onto it for awhile after hearing rumors of Alpha Flight (who has their first appearance in this book) soon to be a part of the MCU. I got tired of waiting so in November I put it up for sale and, well, if you go online to some of the places I mentioned you can see what it sold for. I was happy, the buyer was happy, and I paid down some of my credit cards. I also used some of that money to pay to send in more books.
    I know some of those books of yours you should go through that process of sending them in too. You'll make a lot more than the $5 or $10 you mentioned as you were flipping through them. Depending on their condition now and after a cleaning/pressing.
    Good Luck. Keep looking, maybe you'll find that Hulk #181 or TMNT #1 and buy a new car with the profits.
