- Coal Chamber was a Nu-Metal band from Los Angeles, CA, USA formed in 1995. They enjoyed some mainstream success in the mid to late 90's during the nu metal boom which they, along with bands like KoЯn helped create. The band gained a large following early in their career, arguably because they were one of the first 'darker' themed nu metal bands.
Depends on your taste really. Because I have seen it I know that many would argue that the bands you listed before Pantera and Slayer in no way represent or carry on the torch of "real metal". But why should anyone care? The question you ask merely serves to demonstrate your immaturity concerning music. Genre wars are always fought only by people trying to fit in a certain mold. Break that mold and just enjoy the music you enjoy, regardless of the genre, instead of wasting your time with this.

Psh. I bet if you asked Dez "Do you like Mike Patton?" He'd say "...who?" His fans tend to think he's some unsung megastar that influences EVERYONE but in reality he has a strong cult following at best his music is just as pretentious as the man himself. He constantly bashes bands and musicians on a personal level that are way more successful with one album than he's been with his entire unnoticed, unimpressive, overrated career.
