This tutorial will teach you how to do the slow muscle up, using a false grip on rings and on the bar. The slow variation of the ring muscle up and the bar muscle up is more or less the same, only slightly different.
We approach the muscle-up by breaking it down into three parts: the pull strength needed for the muscle-up, the push strength needed, and the muscle-up transition.
As well, I will go over tips on how to avoid injury while training for the muscle-up, how to use a so-called “false grip”, how to use bands to aid in your progress, and specifically what exercises to train.

The most comprehensive guide to transition I've ever seen! Thanks.
thank you so much we love you, you help us a lot
Best description of the false grip I've seen.
Thanks man! After so many months of trying, the progression where you rock back to do the transition unlocked the ring muscle up for me. Finally, thank you.
So happy to hear that man 😊 congrats
Best Muscle Up tutorial ever! Thank you so much and also for getting me to try Wilding shoes; they’re amazing.
Keep up the great work Sondre 💪 your channel is SO UNDERRATED, but not for long!
Wow!! Hands down the best ring muscle up transition part progressions!!! I am so hyped!! I am pretty confident these will work for me!! Awesome video man!! Keep it up!
I really like the technical aspects of your explanations. It's definitely valuable in understanding the full movement in order to build strength more efficiently and avoid injuries.
absolutely the best technique for transitioning! the swing stuff really is game changing, thank you a lot brother
First time I’ve seen a demonstration of the transition phase practice. Very nice. Thanks. 🙏
One of the best calisthenics channel on RUclips. Thanks Sondre
Great video! Very clear on the mechanics of the movement!
This is killer! I'm a climber and have had good deep dips and chest to bar pull-ups for years, and have never been able to do a slow muscle-up (and only lousy dynamic ones). I think the transition exercises are going to be a game changer!
Fantastic video - thanks so much. I've been hanging out on the edge of ring muscle ups for so long now. I think the tools here will snag it for me within a month or 2
Excellent content as usual!
Awesome content as always
Sondre.. it makes so much fun watching your videos. really like to listen to you!!
Thank you so much for giving us your advices to achieve our goals! :)
Best regards from Germany!
Great video! Still on the chest to bar pull up myself but great to remind myself what I’m working towards long term
Awesome work man🌟🔥
Very informative and smart tips for muscle ups training! Thank you so much 🙏
I just wanted to let you know that your tutorial and drill about the transition part helped me to achieve the slow ring muscleup. Thanks for your help and all your great content and videos. Yesterday I made my first slow ring MU quite easily, I was really happy and surprised :)
So happy to hear that man 😊 Hope you’ll keep up the progress 💪
Amazing demo bud. Thank you 🦾
So I got my rings last Saturday and and ring muscle up was one of my first goals. I was finally able to get it today! You're video definitely helped with my process. Thanks for that and keep up the good work!
Are you serious!! That’s impressive man! Good on you!
Nice one.💪🏻
Thank youuuu, this is just the video I was looking for! Saludos desde Argentina crackkk 🙌🏽🙌🏽🇦🇷
will try tomorrow in my workout. thanks!
You’re such a gem, I think you just saved me 3 months of bad practice/training.
Thank you Andre!
**Sondre
great explanation, thanks a lot from Mexico!
😊 this was a great video.
This is exactly the missing part I needed ! Thanks !
Very useful! Subscribed thank you:)
Very helpful👍
another great tutorial. i don't have rings or the appropriate bar to train this yet, but this is a great breakdown.
Thanx i really like your Way to explain, so humble and Kind, even you are so strong. Greetings from México. 😊
You are one the best teachers in calisthenics 💪🏼 One question, how many l Sit pull ups would be a good number to start actually trying the muscle up?
Hey Sondre Berg thx a lot for this tutorial. Could you do a tutorial for the bent arm planche?
Great content, can you do a video on you diet?
That was really helpful, especially about how to approach the transition. Do you have any idea why my elbows seem to get torn in pieces when I try to practice the transition on a bar (no such problems on rings) or how I can avoid this problem?
It's also good to practice false grip with australian pull ups
That darn transition. I feel so weak. Will give it a try.
I will try slow muscle up, though I am able to do 2-3 normal muscle up in a row.
How many reps and sets should we aim for before moving on to the next progression?
Any tips on forearm bruising from the dip part of the movement?
1:09 Basebar looks quite unstable, must be pretty hard to do strict muscle ups on it
Is your breathing normal while doing these excercises or do you hold your breath in order to do them more fluently? I kind of struggle to get in enough air while also doing several reps.
What’s the bar hanging above your rings? Looks like it helps with stabilization and a useful tool.
Can we learn the slow muscleup before normal muscleup?
Absolutely 😊 If you can do do pull-ups comfortably, at least 5-10 reps, You can safely start training either explosive, or slow muscle-up (or both)
@@Sondre_Berg okay thanks
Conscientious youtuber
I have to say, I think it-s a mistake we don-t get to see the slow muscle up on bar, at no point in the video do you do a proper full one,. And it would've been cool to see 2 in a row or more actually.
Same thing happens with acoustic guitar tutorials, they explain it but it would be so muhc better if afterwards or before you show yourself playing the full song
Does the slow muscle up transfer to the explosive muscle up?
To some extent, But I would never rely on only one of them in order to learn the other. I’ve seen people with strong explosive MU that can’t do slow MU and people with strong slow MU that can’t do explosive MU.
This comment serves the purpose of supporting the channel.
Appreciate it 😊
💪🏻💯😘🥰😍😊😇................ .
Nice one.💪🏻
