John Doe -First off, Thank you for your service. I am glad this video has inspired you to wear your pocket watch more. If you have instagram, #my1928 If you’d like to share your style.
It’s great to know that you love watches. I really love this kind of watch. I’m going to buy one for myself. But I just wonder whether this kind of watch tells the time every single hour. Could you please let me know about this. Thank you and waiting for your reply.
Thanks for making this. My 16-year-old son just discovered dressy clothes, and he asked me today how to wear a watch chain. Now I can show this to him.
I was lucky to have had a couple of elders who wore one when I was growing up. I thought they were cool then and still do at 67. I might get myself another one for my next birthday.
I absolutely adore pocket watches, I've never seen one in person, but I've loved them ever since i was five, but I'm fifteen now, and about to buy myself one. Thank you so much for this video, you have helped thousands of people.
I did a research on pocket watch to draw my work and stumped upon your video and how lucky I am! Thank you so so much for this generous knowledge you're sharing about wearing the item onto the clothes, I really did enjoyed the history and functionality of it. Thank you again.
I did old west reenacting and you had to have a pocket watch ! But my love of them goes way back before that too Ky and my uncle who had one and worked for the RR is where my love of them started. My son got me a mechanical last year for Father’s Day I use a fob for pocket a 1/2 Albert with a vest and never never snap the cover close that is all Hollywood. I feel using one show ppl you have class and not worried about time passing by a reminder of a simpler time. Really love the vid thank you and much respect
Désolé de ne pouvoir vous écrire en anglais. J'ai une montre de poche depuis 20 ans et ce n'est que maintenant, grâce à vous, que j'apprends à la porter ! Un grand merci de Paris, pour vos explications.
I bought a pocket watch finally in early 2017. I'd wanted one for some time. Since I was working as an over-the-road driver I figured it'd be a good idea since I sat driving most of the time. I was surprised at the number of people I'd run across who had never seen one before. I'm currently 67 and knew a few elders who carried one when I was growing up. The most surprising thing was the number of young people who couldn't tell time by it.🤷🏼♂️ I mostly wear Dickies shirts that have two pockets and I'll keep the watch in the right one with the chain going to the eyelet in the flap, across to the other pocket or to the top button hole of the shirt. Pulling it out is a really good conversation starter.
when I was a child,I wanted a pocket watch. my mom told me if I learned to tell time she would buy me one. I learned to tell time in two days. I did get the watch, that was over 60 years ago. I still prefer pocket watches to this day. Nice video
Thank you for a very informative tutorial. I have just purchased a vintage Smiths pocket watch and Albert chain and was not sure how to attach it to my waistcoat , all is now clear.
I'm playing a henchman for a 20s crime boss in a Murder Mystery Dinner Theater my church is staging. I bought an accessories kit that included a pocket watch and chain. Now I know how to wear it. Thanks!
Good stuff! I found this channel because the google doodle about the count of montecristo got me interested in the early 1800s time period and i watched the tv series of great expectations, count of montecristo and david copperfield and i noticed how they were wearing pocket watches with waistcoats and I think that's the way that looks the best!
I’ve carried a pocket watch since my early teens after breaking numerous wrist watches . My full hunter survived a fall from my horse when out hunting so the name fits it perfectly !
I Iike my pocket watches, my dad was a keen collector and had some very vintage ones, we used to study some of the old ones and the fine movements, i wear one every day especially for work, I'm very into 1920s and 1940s fashion i always saw those era's has a time when folk were well dressed, i do get some looks from the younger generation who probably think I'm terribly old fashioned but i am, its a simpler life and i can't abide looking untidy, i do have quite a collection of pocket watches now.
Really enjoyed your film and demonstration. I metal detect and recently found a very old pocket watch fob advertising battle axe shoes. I just put up a history lesson attempt on it if you care to watch. Thanks.
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. I have always been fascinated by metal detecting and its prospects. That fob is certainly a piece to be excited about. Thanks for watching.
Sadly I've recently inhereted a 1970's USSR Sekonda & was unsure of how best to wear it. Would have never even considered that on most jeans, the right side inner pocket was purpose built for it. I wear jeans pretty much 365 days a year. Just wanted to say thank you for educating me.
Thank you, Sean. Glad you enjoyed it. Timepieces passed down from family members are a priceless part of a collection. Thanks for sharing and thank you for watching.
Personally I prefer to wear my pocket watch in the inside pocket of my jacket, it feels as if it is in a safer position and also has relatively easy accessibility. However I find this video very insightful and I appreciate your content. Good day sir.
Wow this is a great video with one exception you didn't mention how to wear the watch in overalls specifically Liberty overalls they have a neat little watch pocket.
Hello there, i found this video very educational. I bought a pocket watch but I've been curious to know how do you wear it if you are not wearing jeans? . My favorite way is to wear them on pants until I buy a waist coat
Personally I wear it in the Breast pocket below my pocket square , but I don't tie the chain , I just pull it out when I want . Currently few people would even guess that the strap or chain belongs to a pocket watch , therefore many believe is my glasses chain , . Once I pulled up mine , was in the Titanic movie aniversary and one person said " Seemed that you liked the movie you invest in old fashion " Best regards from Chile
Thanks for teach people how to wear pocket watches. Ive got mine ordered already but i think ill only be able to hang it on my belt because of the chain hook.
I just bought my first pocket watch and I fking love this thing, it's just a little cheapy thing, but it looks cool. I think I'd like to buy a couple of higher end pocket watches. Thanks for this video 🙂👍
I’ve seen some chains referred to as railroad style chains that have a circular clasp on the end. How would this be worn? My first thought was it clasped to a button on the vest.
Hi Edward, I can’t speak specifically to the Railroad Style name but your description of the circular clasp sounds familiar, and similar to something that I have. It is likely that this clasp style was preferred amongst those that worked on the railway because it was more secure than say a t-bar. Additionally, that clasp would have made it possible to be worn with or without a vest/waistcoat. IE- a universal design that could be worn via a loop on a pair of overalls as well as the buttonhole on a vest/waistcoat. Id love to explore this question more and may make a video regarding the different clasp styles. Thanks for your great question, and thanks for watching.
I have a Aero Neuchâtel 1932 silver railroad watch with the same ring. Really want to know how to wear it too. Because I just got it cleaned and serviced
I came here because i bought a Black Butler pocket watch and i didn't know how to fit the belt clip because i didn't know what it was, thank you for informing me.
I have a $20 something pocket watch I bought from Ellis Island in 2014 and then I bought a cheaper $8.50 quartz pocket watch I bought off of Amazon. The $8 one ran out of battery so now I have to wear my Ellis Island watch which I love but it’s not really my style any more.
The coat of arms in the background. Is that a custom piece of your own family coat of arms? Or an antique? If it’s a custom piece, who made it? I would love to have one of my coat of arms made just like that.
Does it matter which side of the waistcoat you wear the pocketwatch on? For example, with a wristwatch, a right-handed person is more likely to wear it on their left wrist; is this the same with the pocketwatch?
You’ve got jeans so you’re set. Run the chain through the belt loop on your jeans, and set your watch in the front pocket. That’s all. The chain will help to secure your watch-and it looks great.
I have a pocket watch leather holder that fits on my belt. The watch is the holder. My pocket watch is coin silver 1912 Illinois size 16 . I have a hefty Victorian sterling chain with a one ounce .999 silver Replika of a seated US seated. Liberty Dollar as a watch fob . The watch fob coin attached to the Chain goes into pants front right pocket. I wear this pocket watch daily.
I have watches from several makers, but one of my favourites is Charles Hubert Paris. They have a good selection of quality timepieces and they are affordable.
I'm curious what watch(es) you wear. I'll probably go the Levi's route. I'm about to receive a Charles Hubert gold (filled, I'm sure) pocket watch as a retirement gift. Being retired, I normally don't wear a watch... I no longer have to be on time... ever.... Hahahahaha! PS Isn't "waistcoat" pronounced "weskit?" Maybe that's just the Brits?
what if I want to wear a pocket watch on my shawl lapel tuxedo more specifically on the breast pocket I don't have a waist coat tuxedo I only have cumberbund how do I pull it off
I just noticed a large hole in your ear lobe. Do you wear ear rings? I had my left ear lobe pierced in 1984 but only wore earrings for a couple years and it grew over. Ear rings don’t go with my style as I prefer an Edwardian to about 1940’s look.
Great question, Peter. Because grey is a neutral, it pairs well with most colours. So gold, bronze, and silver are all great options. However, gold, rose gold, and bronze will add warmer tones and be more noticeable against a grey suit.
Glad I found this video. I was gifted a pocketwatch after deploying to Afganistan and never used it. Now I'm inspired to use it often.

Always nice to meet another pocket watch aficionado. Thanks for watching.
