  • Having first been introduced to Panasonic one and a half years ago, director of photography Dejan Georgevich, ASC has just recently finished shooting the ongoing TV series The Enemy Within, using the Panasonic VariCam LT.
In this interview, Georgevich, who is further a professor of cinematography at New York's School of Visual Arts, explains his very own fascination for Panasonic cameras. The high sensitivity, the texture and tonality as well as the aesthetic reproduction of skin tones are only some of the reasons for his decision.

Only problem is 4:2:2 recording, color reproduction is not good enough compare to VariCam 35. Have the option to shoot at 4444 HQ 12bit or higher externally, it will sell like hot cakes.

You can record v-raw to an external recorder. I think the files are too large to compress to 4k 444 avc-intra on external recorders like Atomos. Recording a raw signal does not require as much processing power, because there is no compression going on. It would be great if Panasonic created a dedicated recorder that could capture and compress 4K 444 or 4K raw for S1H, Eva and Varicam line of cameras. It is something I think would benefit the whole family of cameras.
But to be honest,as a Varicam LT owner for almost 2 years no. 422 is really good unless you are doing extensive color grading. But of course the V35 is the champ.
