Sorry, my friend, but the Nagra has absolutely nothing to do with the AIWA; we're talking about two completely separate (and not even parallel) universes here, there's no way to compare them. Watching you bang the AIWA on top of the Nagra with no regard could give quite a few reel-to-reel enthusiasts a heart attack! 😆
It's hard to find original MSRPs for these tape recorders but from what I've been able to find, the price of the Nagra would have been close to 100 times that of the Aiwa. Adjusting for inflation, the Aiwa would have cost about as much as a budget smartphone while the Nagra would cost about as much as a new Corolla.
Nice clear video and explanation ! Maybe the Aiwa needs some TLC in it electronics? Bias adjustment or just new caps in it. You forgot the tape width of the recorders, 1/4 inch on the Aiwa and 3.8mm or cassette tape for the Nagra. And Nagra made a rewind unit for it, which is very fast indeed.
Exactly, which is why I specified that the Aiwa was a toy and the Nagra was a professional recorder. I wouldn't say the Aiwa is average, its construction and circuitry are a little below average
The sound difference between the two is astonishing! The Nagra is so clear.
Not a miniature, but the Craig 212 tape recorder was featured the most on Mission Impossible. Like your videos a lot.
Wonderful ❤

Oh yeah. I remember that you like these. It's been a while since you bought them up.

May need new caps, but none of these sound good
Comparing apples to oranges, Nagra is a clockwork high precision machine, The Aiwa is just an average tape recorder.

Damn is this why old Grateful Dead bootlegs from this era sound so shitty? XD
