I remember some members of the band playing bongos in Delores Park in the 70s until the police would come and ask them to move along. I grew up listening to Santana and attending concerts. For me, this music is in my soul. Thank you for this. I will find this documentary!

I have listened to "Smooth" with Santana featuring Rob Thomas back in 1999. It was the most popular music that I have ever heard on the radio back when I was at Eras Center in L.A. when we were going to the park. I know Santana was the best, and his playing of the guitar just keeps on playing.

Santana is so magnanimous in his praise of musicians like B. B. King, SRV, Jeff Beck, Otis Rush, Jimi, Miles, Trane etc. I often wonder what Jimmy Page, David Gilmour , Ritchie Blackmore have to say about Santana's music. Anyone having a transcript of interview where they mention about Santana would be highly appreciated. Thank you!

He's an icon of the revolution that occurred in music in the 60s. A phenomenal guitarist. I saw Santana live in Denver, CO when I was 15 in the early 70s, and it remains one of my greatest memories of my life. Their music is just as relevant now as it was when it was created. And his music with Santana was groundbreaking for us bc it was the first exposure to latin music most of us white kids had other than late night radio stations out of Texas of Mexico on long road trips. AND I wish artists would keep their opinions to themselves about current social issues bc they just don't know what they're talking about and it's damaging. He's wrong about gender and transness and makes us older folks look bad. A lot of us are fully versed and supportive of the changes happening in our awareness of gender and sexuality.

Can't say I agree with you that "artists" should keep their mouths shut. Everyone has a right to express their opinion about anything. However, I'm not sure what point Carlos was trying to make with his statement as it seemed somewhat vague & contradictory.

Correct! He wasn't targeting anyone...he was telling the facts. The U.S. is going to be in for a dose of reality as the overall Hispanic population keeps going up as the 21st century continues proceeding, the majority of Hispanic families are built upon a strong moral foundation while at the same time being respectful and tolerant of the handful of non-traditional persons in society, though in fact those persons (trans) account for less than one percent of the entire U.S. population, they aren't deserving of any "special" legal protections anymore than anyone from the more than 99 percent of the remaining U.S. population are.
Unsurprising at the comments from people that think they have to sympathize with all of the weird, fringe parts of society, I would dare comment that most rational persons don't even spend a second of time giving any thought at all to what any "trans" person is up to doing on a average day, lol.

The problem is now people saying things with no need to say them.
If he was asked about it on stage , I agree with him speaking his mind.
If he wasn’t asked, he just shouldn’t have said anything. There was no need.

Was Carlos Santana sexually abused by a male relative as a young innocent vulnerable child?
I believe we have something in common--in addition to love of good music

I'm not sure he ever made clear if it was a family member. I don't think it was, but could be wrong.

An "opinion" which is factually incorrect is not a defensible or legitimate opinion, it is just an ignorant lie which deserves no respect.
Mr. Santana's "old man yells at cloud" rant devalues the significance of his sharing about being abused. It's too bad he couldn't make the connection between his victimization and those his words intended to delegitimize.
