    You've got to buy the right tools for your projects!!! When I upgraded to real sewing scissors to use in my pom pom crafts I couldn't believe the improvement. Sometimes people balk at investing in good tools and materials, but I'm with you on this one. Get the best and your projects will instantly look better. Great video Megan!

    I use 3 strand cotton cord from Knotical USA for woven mats, braiding, macrame, etc. This cord has a firmer lay than most of the stuff from various craft stores.
    Also, a craft knife--X-Acto or Excel--is my preferred way to cut cord. Lay the cord flat on a work surface and press the blade down through the cord.

    Megan, my wife dropped a hint that she might be interested in starting to macrame. What size and length cord would you recommend while learning? Single strand? Cotton? I will probably get her a clothes rack and definitely some S hooks and those scissors you mentioned. I figure there are different materials to use for different projects, but she will probably start with some simple indoor wall hanging decorations. Thanks for all your help!

      Hi! Thanks for reaching out! Ganxxet has a whole macrame section on their site. I personally like single strand cotton. It’s softer, prettier and versatile. One spool of 3mm should get her started.

    I have had the same set of Gingher shears since the 1980s, and they are AMAZING - best purchase ever. I have them sharpened every 2-3 years. As long as you never cut paper with them, they stay balanced and perfect forever.

    Wanted to invest in a new hobby & was like “Yikes, $50 scissors. Not again...” (because I have a large sewing collection) and I remembered, oh yea I can use the scissors I bought for sewing all those years ago... they are Gingher too! Rarely use them because I rarely sew anymore 😂 Definitely worth the investment though!

    hi Megan, I've been tying knots for fun for a few years and a friend mentioned macrame... I've got a shop in the basement with an exhaust fan at one end where I'd like to do things like grinding, spray finishing, etc. I need to control sparks and was thinking of some kind of curtain I could hang and drop down when needed, probably wet with water to control dust/fires, maybe attach zippers on the corners or something... any suggestions on weave pattern/cord type and size? I love tying knots

I have been watching few tutorials but I need Information about the macrame cord size and the crochet hook size I should be using with that particular cord. If my cord is 6mm, what crochet hook should I buy. I hope you can help me with this information. I will appreciate greatly.

    Thanks for your suggestions. I'm a total beginner and have some ideas that I want to make. How long does it take you to do your various projects? Do you try to do them in one sitting or in pieces of time and if pieces of time, how do you know where you left off?

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  3 года назад

      It is super easy to tell where you left off as the cords are just hanging, and I do a lot in small spurts because I have a small child and am always busy!

    Could you maybe write the sizes and details of your orders in your description as well? I saw that they sell many different ropes and I'm not sure which one is good to use as a starter.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  6 лет назад +6

      Gizem Y. 3 or 4 mm is the size rope I typically buy for most projects. Ganxxet is wonderful in that they describe what materials are best for what projects in the descriptions for each product. I like their cotton rope and cotton cones best.

    Rope tends to be pretty expensive. A good alternative is to find thicker yarn at the craft store.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  6 лет назад +2

      Jake yarn does not have the weight needed for most macrame projects but I see where your head is at! If it was heavier, it would be perfect.

    Megan on the Gannext site the natural cord looks much more brown than the one you suggested. You said natural, not white correct - I want an off-white. I am a sculpture artist, but since I am stuck at home want to try macrame. Thank you so much - can you check out the current natural for me.

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  4 года назад

      Hey there! The natural is an off white. If you order white, it will be a stark white.

  • @AmorphiaPhoto

    Thanks for the useful video! Are you using the single twist 4mm from Ganxxet or the super spool which is 3 ply (4.5mm)? So far I"ve only used 3 ply and am a little apprehensive to use single twist in case it unravels too much while I"m working!

    • @MeganBell
      @MeganBell  6 лет назад +1

      Amorphia good question! This is the single twist and I loooove it! By far my favorite because it is so soft and brushes out so nicely. I have never had an issue with it unraveling before. It tends to do it for the last inch of the cord, but never more.
