Scotty Kilmer awesome video. I noticed these new styled videos have gotten longer.i think it started off as a 1 minute video and I was wishing they were longer. Wish granted.
My Uncle's fiat caught on fire in the middle of the highway.
Some of your choices for graphics are quite entertaining. For example...
in saying these cars have no retail value your graphic was of an old mattress with a big ugly stain on it...... funny stuff.
Scotty I love your videos and have recommended many other buddies to visit your channel. How long did a video like this take you to do and where did you learn your editing prowess. I love the pictures as you're giving advice. "don't last long...while the pic of the guy sleeping and girl mad" LOL
Didnt last that long 2:03 epic Lmfao
i paid 7k for my 2012 abarth and i drive it everyday and i havent had any problems with it
I drive mine 150 miles a day to work and back. Almost at 118k and all I've done is replaced rear bearings and pads plus all oil changes. A friend has the 4 door with the same motor and he uses it on his rural mail route and has for years. He's had no issues. I do agree, buy used because the resale value is crap.
The car was built to drive....drive the damned thing.
Just be patient.
You right fiat is the best

I drive my 2012 Fiat 500 5 speed manual everyday. 80k miles so far - 35MPG - So far only basic upkeep needed. So far it is the best used car I have ever purchased.
Sounds like it must be the first car you've ever had.
@@jtdenton1483 Quite the contrary actually. I've owned dozens of used cars including Ford, Chrysler, Honda, Jeep, Porsche, BMW , Mazda, Volvo and Mercedes too. For the money I spent - this used Fiat was among the best.
I love this bc it detracts people from these amazing cars so that they are cheaper for all of us who REALLY know what's going on. Keep it on the low guys but these cars are awesome.
Hahahaha. Loved your comment.
Notice the parts aren't going crazy like other cars too. Love it.
Wife drives a 2010 Fiat 500 with 200,000.00 Km (124K miles). Never had a single problem. Simple engines, nothing much to brake.
Same here! Loved it
Thanks for the input guys I’m looking to get one
Which is exactly why it’s even sadder that they break down the design is so simple. How can you not build something so simple correctly
i have the 2013 fiat abarth and love it, no problems and drive the hell outta it every day. good maintenance is key
I will go one step further take car of the car like it needs. Many different cars have different requirements so one car you might need to change the oil every 5k and another its good to do every 10k. if just depends on the car. I would rather buy a fiat and enjoy it then have a toyota and hate it and keep it because its not going to break down on me.
Totally agree. My 2012 Twinair gives me so much joy and no problems!
Good
I have a 2012 Fiat, not an abarth. It's my main daily driver car and has had no major issues.
cool, I will tell you this, if you buy a fiat 500 it will be one of your favorite cars. Why its cheap, fun to use, it just puts a smile on your face and also its just example of how much of a car most people need. My 2012 Fiat 500 Sport in white, it cost $18,500 brand new in oct of 2011. I kept it until oct of 2017, I put 96,500 miles on it. I didnt have any problems with it. That car ate tires I usually had to buy tires about once year. Most of the time the average was about 10-15 months. Next thing to know there isn't very many tires you can buy for that car so if you need winter tires or even want cheap tires you bought the wrong car. They only have like 8-12 kinds. I usually bought Michelin AS3 for it. They were amazing. I was still on the original brakes, did a few brake flushes, many oil changes (7,500) many tank of gas (10.5 gal) I always put premium in it. I only had to change the headlights like once, and one battery change. So I think that is pretty good, and another thing I got a maintance contract with it so I didnt pay for anything for 3 year or 36k miles. so Fiat decided to remove that in favor of bigger discounts. Some dealer give customers the option to remove discounts in favor of getting the 3 years 36k paid maintance. if any of you get that option jump on it will save you money. or maybe you might be like oh I dont have money now for the brake job or oil change right now but it needs it. I dont like all of the hate on this car its a amazing car.
I just bought my Fiat 500 pop c in September of last year and love it! Standard transmission and a convertible top. Great as my daily driver in a major city.
@@maggislayton what scotty is saying is true about his toyota, any car when you get it like 5 years old and also put lots of miles its not going to be worth much. I hate when people be light oh I bought this car because it has good resale value. You should be buying car that you like.
I owned a fiat and it was always in the shop, I sold it before the warranty was up and I only had 24k miles on.
@@rodneynasir8089 its because you didnt take care of it. I know a guy who had a Toyota rav4 that only made it to 12k miles he drop like $14k on repairs due the the dealership not covering it under warranty and them voiding it due to not being maintained
Gotta love the the effort you put into finding the appropriate memes in the top right corner.
I had two Fiat 500's , never had a single problem with either.
So you're the ONE
I assumed 500s were unreliable but in my queries I've found that the overwhelming experience is they are dependable. More dependable than a Mini Cooper, although the newer Minis seemed to have become more dependable. I think if you get a 500 used and can maintain it yourself, you can't do too badly. Americans don't like small cars, but if you do, a 500 might be more like Civics used to be when Japanese cars were simpler. Fiat 500s are everywhere in Europe
i have a 2012 fiat abarth and it is the most fun you will ever have for under 10grand and chrysler capitol will give anybody a loan towards these cars no matter who you are I have upgraded my turbo to the bipostos 180hp and Iam getting 5.5 second 0 to 60 runs and the exhaust note makes people want to know what you are driving and while still getting 32 mpg awesome
stephen perkins doesn’t change that fists are gay. Kinda like mustangs ya may be fast but doesn’t mean there not gay
If easy to park = "gay", then interpret that however you will. The only issue is reliability, but the all-electric version (also available under $10k used) fixes that.
I have a 2015 Abarth, daily driven for 3 years and no issues. VERY fun to drive, the backfires between shifts is the best part, think its time for something bigger though. Might just keep it for weekends and twisty roads, I have a feeling these will be more appreciated in years to come, likely when Fiat is long gone from North America (again).
Nah a g35/350z are the best for less than 10k
Those things are fuel pigs, had one years ago.. Worse gas mileage than my 392 hemi (really!)
You're wrong or rather out of date about the unreliability of Fiats. An AA (Automobile Association) was very surprised when I called him to fix my 2009 500. He said Fiats are very well built, so he doesn't get asked to fix them often. Mine was broken because the dog had chewed through a sensor in the footwell for the brakes which had a knock-on effect on the automatic transmission.
If you’re talking about Europe, they are pretty good and now with merger I only think quality will go up cause of the new PSA tech. However in North or South America they are bad, like pretty damn bad, built with different cheaper materials and they don’t last very long before they have problems.
NGL, I'd say it'd be a fine daily car, but he's right about the resale value, because of the perception.
Which is amazing for someone looking for used cars. 🤣
I am one of those fools who bought one new 4 years ago. You don't lose money if you never sell! Aside from some trim issues and other cosmetic things it has been mechanically reliable. I just hit 29K so it's still got lots of life left. An absolute steal used now.
The 500 will become collector's in the US especially now since you don't get it there anymore .. so hold on to it a bit longer and let's see who has the last laugh. Even if you get another car, just garage this one and it will increase in value. With Scotty, although he has heaps of useful tips, he's a bit like that uncle at a BBQ who is opinionated and says occasional dumb stuff and people don't know where to look. I love my 2012 Twinair!
Well, you can lose money, but it depends on the circumstances
There is no alpha Rome engine.. the engine is the same Fiat 1.4 turbocharged engine that is fitted in the fast small cars of the FCA
group. They just change the size of the turbo and the engine mapping depending on the model. Get your stuff right Scotty and don't be a hater.
But still the fiat multi air is not a very reliable unit. The only good thing about it is the sound
Abarth put forged rods and pistons in it, so not quite the same. The European version has the t-jet engine which is more reliable.
@@BlatentlyFakeName Abarth engines tjet or multiair are not forged as far as i know. If you have any reliable source that says the opposite let me know , maybe im wrong
@@prozacnation25 Abarth put forged parts in. Including pistons, rods and crankshaft apparently. Though this may only apply to the engine used in European cars. That engine was race proven up to 140k miles.
The multiair engine used in the US cars was never used in the Euro Abarth 500s so they aren't the same. It still isn't even on the 595 and 695. They are all upgraded T-jets.
@@prozacnation25 Yes they are. Excelent engines.
I have a 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth, 182 km never a check light Scotty....nuff said.
U have god level luck
shhhh don't tell everyone
2012 pop. Only had one major issue, rodent damage. Chewed some wires. Built like a damn tank, drive it every day.
I have a 2011 fiat, did a complete engine rebuild after the distribution chain snapped after 200.000km
@@ianhuth37 I dont think so, it's pretty common place for fiats to run for more than their intended lifespan
Definitely getting an Abarth over a Mini Cooper
they are cheaper and better, i'm thanking the new electric craze for the cheap price. later this fall the 1957 version is coming out, i'm definitely getting one of those in blue
The Mini cooper has a stainless steel exhaust and buyers usually take the 5 year service pack, so in terms of reliability of a used car, the Mini Cooper S would probably be better maintained than a Fiat 500 Abarth.
Scotty reccomended a car other than Toyota? 😱
Vehicle Virals not really
That’s a shocking truth.. how can a expert only recommend ONE car brand?
He likes Mercedes and bmw
Chrysler too
Oh NOOOO 😁
I can't take this guy serious.... I have a high miles abarth and it's daily, reliable af.
Mine has 105k miles rn. How many miles does yours have?
Exactly. It's such a cliche to dis on Fiat's and usually by people who have never owned one. My 2012 has had zero issues except for the regular services. Can't say that for friends of mine with Audis and Subarus
Yeah mines holding strong seen them up and over 150k and they come in at an average of 7k dollars in my area for 45k miles+. Great buy and by far my favorite car, even over my c6 corvettw
@@emanuelemanuel7038 I've seen in forums fiats with 300k miles with pictures for proof lol

mine has 250k miles and still runs great
also, porcodio
Cars with no power usually don't have much problems cause their is no strain on parts. And your lucky af
it's a tuned 1989 fiat uno turbo i.e. with about 200 hp...
(I know it seems kinda lame but you have to consider the car only weighs about 850kg)
plus i'm not lucky af, the car was just properly maintained, with oil changes every 4000 km
so please stop saying a car is unreliable just because you are not able to look after it.
also you have probably never owned a Fiat, so why should you dare to speak about them?
Is it run like a clock ?
like the day it rolled out of the factory
Half steak19 how about now?
My dad purchased a 2014 Fiat 500 sport for 15k new and sold it for 5.7k with 100000k miles on it in July.
Merc and Benz made after 1989 are turds! It's shocking how cheap everything is and how fragile the electronics are. I'd rather have a Pontiac Grand Am than a Merc or a Benz.
I drive a 2012 500 sport and have had to do things like brakes and changing the spark coils but it’s been a blast. Not much in terms of resale but that’s fine - I love the car
Did the head gasket blew or is it still running?
@@antiquefuturistic The clutch finally went and I traded it in for another car . I’d like to get their new electric car once it comes on sale here in the states

My wife and I bought 2 new fiat 500s. 11 years and combined 275,000 later both are running great with regular maintenance. Your won't look tough like a 4 wheel drive, but they are great commuter cars.
Had a Fiat 500 for 2 years. Great car no major issues besides power failure recall. But they let me use the Spyder for a month until it was out. 😌
I bought two new Fiat 500s...the first was a 2013 500 Pop, and I got it brand new...absolutely ZERO issues with it...I drove it from the NYC area to Indiana via Gettysburg Pa in January during a snowstorm...I stayed behind the 18 wheelers and never had any problems going either way...I traded up to a 2015 Abarth Cabrio when I took it in for service and saw the Abarth on the showroom floor...There wasn't anything wrong with the 2013...I just liked the Abarth...Both cars were so much fun, and I drove them every day, just like you said not to...I suspect that you've never owned one...Now I drive a 2017 Fiat 124 Spider, aka. the "Fiata", which is the Mazda MX5 with Fiat engine and suspension, plus a few other Fiat tweaks...I've owned Fiats way back in the 1960s and 70s when they were simply transportation and rust buckets...All were cheap and fun.
@may day you've obviously never been in one. Dont underestimate them, comming from a henessey powered Corvette owner, I prefer my abarth. Loads more fun, go kart like handling, highstrung boost happy engine. And jesus that sound all in a car that costs less than 80 to insure and 30 bucks a month for gas to run and a daily. You'd be unwise to turn your nose up at it.
0 to 60 in 6.5 seconds. 38 mpg. Cheap. Handles great. Ive taken mine on many road trips. Been reliable too. 124k miles now. Have had my 2013 for 6 years now no issues ;)
Do you really think the guy who asked if he should replace his broken tie rod should replace it now or later should change it himself? Some people just aren't mechanically inclined Scotty. Lol
The Brown RAT: So, some people try putting a square peg in a round hole. It doesn't matter how simple something is they'll find a way to mess it up. :P
Actually lots of jobs like tie rods are super simple if brand new but older ones always suffer corrosion and it is a pain to replace them because you can't get the old one off. Doesn't anyone commenting actually do this stuff ??
The Brown RAT: I'm near the Canadian border, about an hour from Montreal. Our winters are almost as bad and vehicles are equally as rusty from all the road salt. :)
The Brown RAT I hear you. I have my grinder from needing it to cut off rusty bolts on my Mazda exhaust system. I'm in the desert now but I lived in Colorado and remember rinsing off road grime but you still get rust. On tie rods I try to turn them often and put lots of anti seize on them.
Scotty your a legend. I love those little pictures you insert at the corner of the screen. So funny.
Gosh the editing on those videos is on point 😂😂😂👌🏽
You know, I've been watching your videos for months but I traded in my 06 G35 Coupe for a 500 Abarth. I did it last week before this video. $9000 for almost new and only an extra $1000 to make it just as fast as the G35. Thanks for the confirmation bias, though, lol.
Should remind people not to mix different colors of coolant. If you mix the wrong types together you get a gooey gel that will basically ruin your engine. If you're going to switch types make sure you drain out all the old stuff and even rinse with some water if you can. Friend of mine mixed Dexcool with some regular green antifreeze and it turned into sludge.
My Fiancee has a Fiat 500. I drive a Civic. I work for a large premium car manufacturer. - -I’m very impressed with the build quality of the Fiat! Her engine is a 1.2 petrol that has been around since the 80’s (so its basic and they’re happy that they know how to build them now) and that thing is typically italian in that it loves to rev and be thrashed! The only thing I dont like about it is the image and the pedal position, they are too high.
I really enjoy watching your videos.. They are so satisfying.. Chock full of technical pieces of pure gold.
What are you talking about I drive my fiat everyday no issues
The thing is I guess, Scotty is a mechanic. He's bothered of getting repairs than enjoying the drive. Any fiat brand is for those who enjoy. Not the interior beauty but the heart , dynamic s , drive, ..... FCA is ok if you know the stuff about cars, treat it well as it should be , may be avoid non OEM mods .... You get best value for money. Those cars are special and give them to their people or the good guys for service.

I just bought a 2012 500C for 3500 and can’t wait to enjoy it this summer
My Fiat 500 is now 9 years old. I'm only owner and love it. Going for 30 years.
I own a 2013 Fiat 500 Abarth. I've had it 4 1/2 years. It's my daily driver. I've had some minor issues -- driver's side window needed adjustment, a loose ground -- nothing that's gotten me stuck. By the way, the Abarth does not have an Alfa engine. It uses a beefed-up (and turbocharged) version of the same engine that's in all other Fiat 500s. It also has a beefed-up transmission, bigger brakes, and a better handling suspension.
Congratulations
Really on the fence as getting it as a summer car.
Adrian Guzman Look into the all-electric 500e, if you can charge it at home or work. All-Bosch powertrain. Super-cheap used. Don't be shocked if it becomes a daily, except perhaps in winter, if your round-trip commute is over 35 miles, and you live in Minnesota.
It is pretty reliable.
You are right and Scotty does not know anything about the Abarth.
Yeah about fiat being bad cars: This has'nt not been true for ages.
Sure in the 70's you had the 127 (wich btw was car of the year in europe)
that started to rust in the same year you bought it.
But they are pretty good now. You see them everywhere in southern europe when i'm on vacation.

Hi Scotty, the 500 (or any of the other Fiats for that matter) doesn't have an Alfa Romeo engine, unless you're talking about the special Giannini Model with over 300bhp.

About coolant: NEVER PUT ANYTHING BUT DEXCOOL IN GM PRODUCTS AND NEVER PUT DEXCOOL IN ANYTHING ELSE! This is because if it mixes with any other coolant (even a Small amount) it will sludge up and clog your cooling system!
Oh, Americans... everything must be big, heavy, V8, 4000 lb - otherwise it is not a car.
FIAT is a very decent brand. In many aspects much better than "Americans". Look in Europe.
Lol they are known to not be reliable lol just like many Americans brands like Chevy and Chrysler

There isn't a single street in Europe where you don't see a fiat 500. That said, it's one of the most appreciated cars in Europe.
Scotty in General when he speaks about cars is how they perform in the USA. For example Europran made Mercedes and BMW are better than North American made. Fiat has good reputation in Europe, but on the other hand they're thinking of pulling out of the US
Love you Scotty!
love watching
First time seeing a Malaysian car on Scotty's channel 😁
Nope second time
@@DAN00B98 🤔 the Skyline R34?!
My 2017 Abarth has 12k miles and has had two problems - the left door speaker didn't work when I got it from the dealer (dealer fixed it), and the A/C light went out (dealer will fix at next oil change).
Hey Scotty, what do you think about a Ford Excursion and should I go for diesel or gasoline?
Scotty I was looking into purchasing a 2015 Tahoe. How is the reliability on those. Thank you awesome channel by the way! 👍
Scotty what do you think about Italian-built European Alfa Romeos? They are much easier to get here than in North America as you can find many of them used for cheap. Are they worth it?
Scotty doesn't know a thing about them. Nothing. Niente. Nada. 40 years as a mechanic and he's never touched one.
My mother owns a 1.3 Turbo LPG Giulietta. It has 55 thousand km and hasn't had any problems of any kind.
I live in England, I've owned 8 in
total over the years and they are very reliable provided they are not neglected.
There is a bullshit bandwagon that everyone who don't like Alfas is on, it goes back to the 1970s and is seriously out of date.
Scotty, I love your channel, but on Fiat being unreliable you are dead wrong. Yes the use shitty materials for the interior but they really know how to build cars and innovate. The little Fiat F.I.R.E. 1000 engine was probably THE most reliable engine ever produce in human history.
I drove a electric 500e it was a fun little car and shouldn’t have to many issues being electric. Very low maintenance
There is that spooky cat pillow again Scotty. Whew, I am glad you have that cat again.
Scotty, how do I tell if the oil in my car is too thin? For my 2007 Subaru Forester, the owner's manual suggests a few different oils, depending on the temperature range where you live: 10W30/10W40 for hotter temperatues, or 5W30 suitable for all temperature ranges. Last service I used fully synthetic 5W30 oil because I often do a lot of shorter trips early in the morning (currently winter here in Australia, easily gets below 5°C/41°F) and the oil doesn't have time to heat up properly. My mechanic suggested, due to the car's age, that I use a thicker grade of oil in case this one is too thin. Problem is, what sounds/behaviour do I look for to know that my oil is too thin, and that I need a thicker one?
i own a 2015 500 sport, runs good, the only issues are a vacuum pump leak and a tail light sensor is out. Tails light still work. Its a 5 speed manual with the 1.4 Multiar engine with a cold air intake. 0-60 4.6sec
Lol nice troll. You sound cool
God bless you Scotty Kilmer don’t listen to people using your name to get views keep up the good work! Love your videos
The audio in your "rev up your engines" intro, clips. Can you fix it?
Scotty..Your pictures were a hoot , the Taped tires seemed like a good idea.
I had a Pontiac where the previous owner had welded the rest axle bearings to the axle shafts. Replaced those puppies with brand new ones. Couldn't believe the guy had welded them.
I have a 2012 500 pop convertible. Only thing that’s broken has been the convertible top but everything else runs fine
Scotty, you need to publish a Scotty Kilmer Blue Book. Seems like you're always getting questions on car prices (including from myself).
A Fiat 500 makes no sense in the USA, but it does in major European city like Paris, Rome, Berlin, Munich, Warzaw, Vienna, Zurich, Bern, Amsterdam etc. Those cities have a medieval city centers with narrow roads and a lack of parking space.
FYI the Fiat 500 ( new version) has won more worldwide automotive awards than any other European car
Scotty I have a 1964 Imperial, 413 engine, and its covered in a thick grease! The engine runs great but what would you recommend I do to clean it? I just dont trust anyone to clean it for me!
I had an abarth. only paid $6000 for it. I loved it
Hi Scotty, what do you think about old (60's to 80's) Mercedes diesels?
i bought my fiat 500 sport with the max life warranty. only thing that broke was the door handle. i got the warranty, just in case it was a turd. it's a car you can drive hard with no worries of it breaking down and still get good mpg.
I would like to get an Abarth 500 to have fun with it for maybe 2 years
Be prepared to spend a lot of money on it... on modifications. They're actually really reliable but way too much fun. Every owner I know really enjoys making it their own (and faster)
They're great cars if you can find well maintained unmodified one. After you find 135bhp too slow, don't waste money modifying it, just sell it and buy a 190bhp Vauxhall Corsa VXR for the same money.
Sir you're videos are very informative 👍👍👍
fellow tech here measure tie rod different brands don't line up with thread counting. I measure from sleeve to zirk or center
Next video lets see how long that it take for scotty to mention weak transmissions
Got 100k miles on a used one, no issues apart from a shift linkage bushing that was a warrantee issue. With that little engine cruising at 3500 RPM I know it’s not been a million mile engine but it gets 40MPG
Hey Scotty, I drive a Hyundai Genesis coupe 2013 in a standard transmission with 70k miles. Having issues with 2nd gear locking out. And tips to fix?
paint it blue and throw it at the sea.
