I think this show could have been a big hit if it were a spin-off of Family Matters with a Laverne & Shirley cross over. It could have been titled "Shirley & Rachel"
Thanks so much for sharing this episode. It and the 'Give Peace a Chance' one that you posted are the only two I hadn't seen from the first season. I like that this show didn't fall victim to some of the gimmicks that other youth and family-driven shows did start to even in the early '90s. The combination of characters was really interesting. I think that the first season was overall stronger than the second; I wish the series had found more of an audience and not had to struggle to stay afloat.
You bring up some very good points in your commentary. Season two had the flash of the new opening, the updated theme song and the transitional music between scenes, along with the graphics that they were using. However, I noticed that the characters Nikki and Julie had lesser screen time, especially young Julie. It seemed as though Cindy Williams was able to carry the show almost practically by herself, along with Telma Hopkins, Deon Richmond, and Merlin Santana. It began to be a little unbalanced. If the girls are in the show, I think they should’ve been utilized more during the second season.
