In case anyone missed it, I'm back !! Again !! Sorry ( . _ . ) Anyways, I appreciate every single one of you and would love for you all to be a piece of my upcoming film, "Silhouette": @t - And don't forget to check out the Rounded Borders specific incentive where I digitally paint you in the channel's art-style and feature it in the next big video!
I LOVE La La Land with all of my heart. It's one of my favourite films of all time and you perfectly encapsulated how I feel every time I watch it. This is the first video I watch from you and it definitely won't be the last. Keep up the great work!
To me La La Land is about fantasy/reality. People imagine Hollywood to be this perfect place where dreams come true, but in reality things are a lot more complicated. Even at the fantasy at the end of the film when the two imagine what could have been, you just know that it would never have been that perfect. The classic movie musical is all about living in a Utopia where things end happily and everyone expresses their emotions perfectly, and this just tears all that apart.
The mistake is expecting La La Land to be about singing and dancing with a love story. It is NOT La La Land is a Love Story with some singing and dancing. It is not a Musical, it is its own wondrous genre
Unironically one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s exceptionally memorable- the setting, the actors, the music. I love that it gives into this idea of being this glamorized, and yet stereotypical musical and romance film. It even seems to give the ending you expect to see, just for a moment... before tearing your heart out by showing you they didn’t end up together. They achieved their dreams, and yet there is a sense of forlorning, as well as peace. They are saddened that things didn’t work out with one another, but they did work out in a way for each individual. It feels like a very “grown up” ending to a film which spent much of its time in this idyllic dream world... that never really existed. The ending is that last part that really sticks out to me, and that makes this movie memorable. I think being memorable is actually one of the greatest things a film can achieve. Sure, you can find plenty of films you enjoy, but many of them will have no real impact on your life. You won’t even think of them until you see them again... Unless they are memorable 😉😁
i cant remember who said it, i believe it was ralph sepe, said something along the lines of "ryan gosling and emma stone cant sing nor dance but damien made it work" and i feel like your first argument carried that setiment
But the thing is they can, as we all can, and in their case not even badly. The thing is this world is so obsessed with perfection and being the best that all the authenticity seems to get lost or unvalued. Anything that isn't at that level can be seemed as a failure by an incredibly competitive and narcissistic culture. I don't remember voting for al this.
Alejandro, your filming, your editing -- and your voice -- are amazing. Thank you for every second of your videos. I wish I could put into words how glad I am that your "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" work popped up in my recommendation tonight. That's a lot of ''your'' but Wow. So inspiring.
I’ve never watched a movie review that ended in a real-life application of the movies morale. I loved it. La La Land is my all time favorite movie and you beautifully illuminated its wonders through words and visuals that helped me pin point the details I love so dearly. Thank you!
Amazing how this film had as much of an impact in your life as it did in mine. Couldn’t agree more about the brilliance of the film. Your expression and articulation of it is spot on. Well done, and “Here’s to the fools...”!
That's exactly how I feel about this movie too! I had heard that when the elements in a movie are done well, you are not supposed to consciously notice them - and I agree... But with La La Land, the elements (costume design, production design, music, story, cinematography, etc) were executed so excellently, that they were jumping out of the screen to me, such vibrant colors and songs, they were my wake up call and they were telling me: this, right here, is where you belong.
You've really captured this films purpose. Many hate it and can't even get past the opening scene (even me at first) but when I rewatched it I fell in love. This movie is so dear to me and I love everything about it. this channel is underrated - more of thisss pleeeaasssseeee
I love la la land for many reasons, but mostly because it was the movie that made me love cinema. I'm not sure what fourteen year old me saw in it but I know that she cried on a movie for the first time in her life. I guess that probably it showed me I really want to be an artist. And I want to be authentic. I want to not choose between doing my thing and making money. And yeah, it's quite cliché, but La la land puts it in a way that feels so painfully real. I just watched your video about her and I guess that la la land had similar impact on me as her on you. Also, thank you for your videos. They are truly pieces of art.
Its been 5 years since 2016 (Release of LaLaLand) and I fall in love with it more each time. So much magic in the film. I do not excuse those highschool drama students who have anything negative to say about this piece of artwork. LaLaLand is a cinematic art piece that is lovely in every way
I remember watching La La Land for the first time on a date. It was a last-second choice to watch the movie as we were too late to see the other film we were going to see. I didn't quite understand the movie when it ended, but I have never seen a movie like it. I was only used to watching Disney and other blockbusters alike, but La La Land moved me. Moved me unlike any other movie I have ever seen before it. It showed me what movies and films can be, and it will always hold a spot in my heart for showing me what I was missing out on. Loved the video and thank you for reminding me what this movie meant to me.
YES. I find that anyone pursuing their art as a career can relate to La La Land in a far more personal way. It hit home for me in a way that simply labelling it "pure empty romanticisation" does not give justice to. Still a masterpiece.
OH MY GOODNESS. I clicked on this video expecting a normal video essay, but it was so much more than that. you're editing is incredible and your commentary is spot-on. i deeply relate to your comments on not knowing if the pursuit of your dream will bring you true happiness or not. thank you for surprising me with this!! new fan right here :)
Wow I am SOBBING. thank you. I’m so happy that I stumbled on your video. It really just completed the “La La Land experience” or just really clicked that last piece of perspective that I needed. I’ve been in college since fall 2018, just treading circles around myself. I’ve always felt that my purpose in life is to create - anything and everything. Whether it be good or bad. The summer before college was like something out of a film. I was finding out new things about myself, finding comfort in loneliness and observing my fellow humans. I found beauty and love everywhere I went. Then I went to college and the world turned grey. I was a good student in high school & graduated with a great gpa. So, I decided to give into the expectations of others and study pre-medicine under a biology degree. When you aren’t aligned with your purpose and you continue to choose discomfort simply to feel approved by others, nothing will go your way. The Universe will do everything in its power to humble you, knock you off course and take you back to your truth. The past 3 years have been the most emotionally challenging in all of my life. I’ve basically been lying to myself and forcing myself to fit into a box that does not align with my soul. This caused me to stumble into a dark time of escapism and self-sabotage, depending on drugs to distract me from admitting the raw truth that was quite simple - I was not where I was meant to be. I was deluded by the image that everyone else held of ‘Emma’. It felt like I was constantly at war with myself, I’d punish myself for not being the perfect STEM student. It wasn’t until this past December when I began to make peace with myself by realizing that haven’t been authentically happy in a very, very long time. I’ve discovered a lot about myself recently and chosen to carve a new creative path. Im starting to finally feel like myself again. I finally realize that there is nothing that I have to prove to the world. The best I can do is honor myself and my needs to cultivate a life of love, joy and fulfillment. Ive decided to take a semester off to make art, teach myself some new things and to return “home” I guess you could say :) If you read my story, thank you. Please take care of yourself and listen closely to the wisdom of your intuition. The Universe will reward you with abundance. Have a great day and always know that I’m rooting for you
Your story is very touching, Emma. We actually went into college at the same time and I felt that greyness simultaneously. I’m so glad to hear you’re taking that break though and I wish you the best as well
I can say with all my heart this is my favourite film. I have never had a film grab me and effect me from the first frame to the final frame. I loved it so much that when doing performing arts in college I put on a stage adaptation of the film with all the songs and most of the dialogue scenes its my dream to put it back on stage and my dream to make films as good as this film. For me. This is the gold standard for all films
I remember the first time I watched it I said to my mom that emma stone was not even a very good singer, and my mom reminded me that it was purposeful because it makes her character imperfect and relatable
wow. the ending really had me tearing up. i love that this commentary showed exactly how this movie affected your life and the way you think because it had the same exact affect on me. please keep making great content like this.
actually i have a few-- your video downright expressed my enigmatic love for this film in no way i can ever put into words. La la land is the film i find pure comfort and with your sense of style and effort in making this, i just want to say, THANK YOU. this is something i badly wanted to do since i first saw the film but never have the guts to share ('cause i'm not really good in writing), but thankfully here it is! i'm just so glad and filled with relief to find others what they feel the same way i feel.
lastly i may add (and im not even sure if you'll read this lol), just like what mia said, "people love what other people are passionate about." this totally resonates with what you do with your videos- so intimate and well crafted, i love it. discovering more of your content made me subsrcibed to your channel(we literally have same movie interest) and i hope that you can make more soon!
I came here from your Perks video and I'm so glad I found you- the last 'act' of this video where you bring in your own footage to the soundtrack made me tear up, thank you so much : )
I loved Soul! And thought about that the whole time I was writing my video way back in January lol Lessons From The Screenplay actually has a really great video talking about similar things with Soul!
PLEASEEE talk about Shutter Island?? Idk if you’ve seen it but the amount of emotions I displayed whilst watching it is insane. I love your synopsis’s of these movies and I would love yours on Shutter Island
Normally I cry every time I hear “city of stars” because it became extremely meaningful to me. After I saw your review with the song in the background I’m crying my heart out even more. You translated my feeling perfectly. That’s why I love La La Land, although I hate movies with sad endings. Thank you and congratulations.
I feel that I have experienced something truly synchronistic. Like you, Mr Guzman, this film hit me like a runaway train back in 2016. I saw it three (maybe four) times in the cinema and have watched it over and over again ever since. More recently, I have had conversations with people about the 'quality' of Gosling and Stone's singing and dancing and found myself loving the film even more as a result. As you contend, this is what fuels the film's greatness, what takes it to the next level. It has this layer of authenticity, which makes it all the more profound, in that the actual mortal human beings we are watching, in all their imperfection, have lived the trying lives of the noble characters they are portraying. Stone has talked about this extensively in interviews, how she was one of the mad many with grand plans of moving to California and making it big, and Gosling's story is similarly one of infatuation with Hollywood magic (I think he went to school throwing knives at other students after watching Rambo once hahaha). Anyway, I anchor a weekly film radio segment and upon my love for this film being re-invigorated, I sat down and started making some notes for an episode entitled 'The Self-Perpetuating Perfection of La La Land'. Low and below, literally 4 days later, this comes up on my recommended list. This is the first time I have ever encountered your channel and you can bet I'm going to subscribe to it. Please consider monetising your channel. I would be honoured to make a donation. This, and I'm sure many of your other videos, needs to hit the big time so more people can be moved and inspired by this life-changing masterpiece.
This video made me cry...... Especially the ending.... Exceptionally well explained.... This video gives the best explanation on why we felt butterflies in stomach for mia and sebastian.. Everytime we saw La la Land.... Great job..... Keep going.... You deserve millions of subscribers
Thank you for this, this is my absolute favourite film, I don’t see how people can watch it and think negatively on it in anyway, it’s just a full blown masterpiece to every limit possible
As a theatre kid I never understood why other theatre kids hated the film. It’s like they don’t understand that films and theatre are two separate things, and this was a movie, not a stage musical.
You made me remember exactly why I love this film. Your voice as an artist is so strong and beautiful Alex. This is some great work and an amazing analysis! 😭🙌
As someone who fell in LOVE with La La Land, this video was such an eye opener to me. I nearly teared up because it added this meaning to the movie that I didn’t know was there. Truly thankful I stumbled upon your video!
No one wants to watch this with me! I'm so sad😥. I was blown away by this film. Beautiful cinematography, costumes, story line, songs. Very well written and as an artist you can completely relate with it. Plus they kept it classic and real. I've only seen it once because as I said before, no one I know wants to watch it. They are missing out! Anyways I love it🥰
I'm crying so much bro, you hit it right where it matters, where it hurts. I'm a violinist who can't play violin anymore. All because of the crazy pursuit of "that dream"...that stupid unrealistic dream full of unrealistic expectations. And today, what makes me happy? Just seeing the smile of someone I love. Or listening to incredible videos like yours, and feeling so connected ❤️ Keep it up bro... you're amazing.
Every so often, a movie comes around and reminds me why I love them. Inspires me to want to make a movie myself. And mesmerizes me from start to finish. LA LA LAND… Is one of those kinds of movies. Beautiful, fun, and moving. Never expected to like it as much as I do, but here we are!
Thank you for this video! The world can never have enough voices defending La La Land - in my opinion one of the best films (if not THE best) of the 21st century. I believe that those who hate this film truly don't understand the battles and sacrifices that artists have to go thought to be where they are.
You are the most underrated RUclipsr I've ever had the pleasure of seeing! It may sound like an exaggeration, but your videos carry emotional punches that are definitely comparable to some films that I really like!! Please keep up your amazing work!
I honestly love your reviews man, especially this and perks of being a wallflower. I’d say if you can could you check out and possibly do a review on Sun is also a star, I’d love to see your thoughts on it. For me Sun is also a star gave off the same feeling as a la la land, that human flawed touch on romance and how life can be cruel and get in the way of love
OH MY GOD, i’m in love with this!! since la la land came out, i’ve been obsessed with, to my core, and i could never put into words why i love it so much!! thank you for this video and thank you for making it justice. every second of this is just so wholesome and idk, i feel like i kind of needed it!! thank u for ur great work and for touching people’s hearts through it
I agree with this so much I cannot even explain with words! La La Land is so perfect and makes me cry without fail even though I am a child with no experience with love. I have (had?) a friend that said she fell asleep watching it which was crushed my soul!
this is one of the best video essays i have ever seen to be honest. to start, i also don't understand why this movie gets so much hate! i think the fact that emma stone and ryan gosling aren't the best dancers or singers makes the movie that much more human and like you're actually living through it. secondly, i loved how you brought in you're personal life at the end. i was so touched by the whole concept of purpose and peace and how it applies to not only mia and sebastians story, but yours and mine as well. again, amazing job on this video. the editing, the voiceover, the evidence. all perfect. thank you.
I cannot express how truly inspired I felt after watching this video, I fell in love with La La Land from the first time I watched it and I can relate so so much, I too want to be a film maker/writer and I’m also from Arizona so this really hit close 😭 you make amazing content ! loved the video
This is so beautiful, I really liked your analysis of la la land, but also think that it's important for students like us to open up about our insecurities regarding our future and dream jobs because sometimes we tend to feel alone in our feelings. I'm sure that you made a lot of viewers feel understood.
The classic movie musical is all about living in a Utopia where things end happily and everyone expresses their emotions perfectly, and this just tears all that apart.
Man we really have the same style. I loved your analysis on Perks Of Being A Wallflower and this one is one of my favourite movie.
SAME
guys i love you
Same
La La Land is one of the greatest movies ever. I truly don’t understand how people don’t like it.
The mistake is expecting La La Land to be about singing and dancing with a love story.
It is NOT
La La Land is a Love Story with some singing and dancing.
It is not a Musical, it is its own wondrous genre
I read somewhere that La La Land is not a love story, but it's a story about love and I think it's a perfect way to describe it
“here’s to the fools who dream”
La la land isn't perfect, it's human, that's why we love it.
i cant remember who said it, i believe it was ralph sepe, said something along the lines of "ryan gosling and emma stone cant sing nor dance but damien made it work" and i feel like your first argument carried that setiment
i love ralph !! that’s an incredible way of putting it too
But the thing is they can, as we all can, and in their case not even badly. The thing is this world is so obsessed with perfection and being the best that all the authenticity seems to get lost or unvalued. Anything that isn't at that level can be seemed as a failure by an incredibly competitive and narcissistic culture. I don't remember voting for al this.
Perks of Being a Wallflower and La La La are literally my two favorite movies and I’m so glad you did both
You have to be a dreamer to appreciate this movie.
Thank you so much
@@roundedborderscinema i drop a tear it was so much powerfull and you say exactly how this moovie isnt just about a romantic comedy, thank you
Thankyou for making this, video seems flawless just like the Film la la land! It's a story of most of the artists! Made my day, truly!!
I’ve never watched a movie review that ended in a real-life application of the movies morale. I loved it. La La Land is my all time favorite movie and you beautifully illuminated its wonders through words and visuals that helped me pin point the details I love so dearly. Thank you!
Wait, other people don't rewatch that masterpiece every few months?
Honestly my biggest criticism of La La Land is the lack of diversity, but Ryan and Emma's performances were still so good
holy shit your ending about peace and passion almost had me crying tf
La la land should be a reminder every day and every moment we are making a big decision. Follow your dreams or follow your love.
It's like a short-sequal to la la land, i struggle with people who watched it but didn't get the main idea, perfect!
Couldn’t have put it better myself.
Amazing how this film had as much of an impact in your life as it did in mine. Couldn’t agree more about the brilliance of the film. Your expression and articulation of it is spot on. Well done, and “Here’s to the fools...”!

omg didnt expect this to be so good. Passion vs peace
"ill be thinking of this" just rip my heart out dude
i wasn’t ready for a random video on my recommended page to make me so emotional
You've really captured this films purpose. Many hate it and can't even get past the opening scene (even me at first) but when I rewatched it I fell in love. This movie is so dear to me and I love everything about it. this channel is underrated - more of thisss pleeeaasssseeee

One of my favourite films. You’re spot on about the average signing working with the film

i feel like crying I immediately subscribed
you’ll make it man I can feel it
as a theatre kid who adores this movie, i kill anyone to shit on it, thank you for this video. i loved it
FUCK YES WE NEED MORE VIDEOS LIKE THIS
I remember the first time I watched it I said to my mom that emma stone was not even a very good singer, and my mom reminded me that it was purposeful because it makes her character imperfect and relatable
wow. the ending really had me tearing up. i love that this commentary showed exactly how this movie affected your life and the way you think because it had the same exact affect on me. please keep making great content like this.

I came here from your Perks video and I'm so glad I found you- the last 'act' of this video where you bring in your own footage to the soundtrack made me tear up, thank you so much : )
PLEASE TALK ABOUT SOUL- it is the perfect response to this whole idea of peace and purpose!
I loved Soul! And thought about that the whole time I was writing my video way back in January lol Lessons From The Screenplay actually has a really great video talking about similar things with Soul!
You captured every emotion this film tried to convey and holy crap, it was beautiful
You made me cry...

This, and I'm sure many of your other videos, needs to hit the big time so more people can be moved and inspired by this life-changing masterpiece.
now i'm crying (a lot)
This made me cry
This video made me cry...... Especially the ending.... Exceptionally well explained.... This video gives the best explanation on why we felt butterflies in stomach for mia and sebastian.. Everytime we saw La la Land.... Great job..... Keep going.... You deserve millions of subscribers
Beautiful work. Thanks for making this.
exactly why i loved emma and ryan for the roles ! it made it feel real, and relatable.
absolutely beautiful video, bravo ! 👏🏼
I cried... Thank you haha. No seriously that was wonderful, I am speechless
I keep rewatching La La Land and I still get the feels. I loved your analysis!
Thank you for this, this is my absolute favourite film, I don’t see how people can watch it and think negatively on it in anyway, it’s just a full blown masterpiece to every limit possible
As a theatre kid I never understood why other theatre kids hated the film. It’s like they don’t understand that films and theatre are two separate things, and this was a movie, not a stage musical.
as a theatre kid...this is my favorite movie. i’d watch this over Wicked, Dear Evan Hansen, Hamilton, etc. any day.
You made me remember exactly why I love this film. Your voice as an artist is so strong and beautiful Alex. This is some great work and an amazing analysis! 😭🙌
This is undeniably beautiful
As someone who fell in LOVE with La La Land, this video was such an eye opener to me. I nearly teared up because it added this meaning to the movie that I didn’t know was there. Truly thankful I stumbled upon your video!
same :’) it’s just perfect ughhh
I see la la land, I like. Also you have an editing gift sir thank you
7:42 i lost it when I saw amber in there lmao 😂
No one wants to watch this with me! I'm so sad😥. I was blown away by this film. Beautiful cinematography, costumes, story line, songs. Very well written and as an artist you can completely relate with it. Plus they kept it classic and real. I've only seen it once because as I said before, no one I know wants to watch it. They are missing out! Anyways I love it🥰
love this! I also think the ending is so spectacularly crushing and honest that it kind of justifies the romanticization throughout the movie.
Thank you
bruh ur so good in the commentary and edits
What an amazing view of life
Thank you for this!
13:30 i've been coming back to this for idek how many times since the past two years
Wow this hit home. I love this film for SO many reasons. Thank you for sharing yours
Thank you for this video! The world can never have enough voices defending La La Land - in my opinion one of the best films (if not THE best) of the 21st century. I believe that those who hate this film truly don't understand the battles and sacrifices that artists have to go thought to be where they are.
woah, i swear.. what you’re doing right here, is art. not just the movie it self, but your interpretation of it.
AS A THEATRE KID...THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE OF ALL TIME AND I LOVE IT MORE THAN MOST ALL MUSICALS
Wow, I really hope your channel blows up soon! You've beautifully described why I love this movie so much. Really well made video :D
this is one of the best video essays i have ever seen to be honest. to start, i also don't understand why this movie gets so much hate! i think the fact that emma stone and ryan gosling aren't the best dancers or singers makes the movie that much more human and like you're actually living through it. secondly, i loved how you brought in you're personal life at the end. i was so touched by the whole concept of purpose and peace and how it applies to not only mia and sebastians story, but yours and mine as well. again, amazing job on this video. the editing, the voiceover, the evidence. all perfect. thank you.
this is so so good, it sounds like my brain in a video and was able to express so perfectly why I love this film so much.
I’ve actually let everything that you’ve said sink in now, and I’m in tears man, this is one of the most well made videos on RUclips
Wow. Thank you for this! I loved this movie... It made a big impact on me.
Finding beauty in the mundane
This. Wow maybe I'll give La La Land a try.. thank you for changing my opinion
I'm sure that you made a lot of viewers feel understood.
i loved this so much! i have to say that i cried at the end of the video with your words, BEAUTIFUL!
