From a game theory standpoint, his decision makes complete sense. If he was okay with risking $9,000, he should be okay risking $18,000 in that situation. What a boss.
Slippery Squeef That kind of reminds me of when Mine That Bird was in or very close to last place in the Kentucky Derby & Jockey Calvin Borel went down the Rail.
One thing you should know, is he is the most down to earth person you will meet, he deserved every bit of what he won, what pisses me off most is that nothing was even mentioned at my university about his triumph, I guess maybe he didn't want it known, after all he was rather bashful when I congratulated him lol.
Both Roger Craig and Ken Jennings have been enthusiastically cherring James on. Doubt there's any animosity and in fairness this would stump many Brad, Roger, James and Ken. James plays the game how I always play it on my computer and video games of Jeopardy thst always download new content. It has been a great ride seeing true risk in Jeopardy.
I would be too if I made it to the final of the most prestigious tournament in Jeopardy history (all-stars and goat don’t count because they were one-time events) and then I go up against this guy and hear the words “I’ll bet it all” twice in the span of a minute
@@masterdoge987 True, but Roger was also (and probably still would be) a force to contend with. It was a risky move, but he went with it. I don’t think even James Holzhaurer ever made that risky of a move (save for his all in bet in final when Ken Jennings won the G.O.A.T). He’s also one of the first to go for high dollar clues to maximize daily doubles. James wasn’t the first, he just managed it better.
this was sick! if you like competition of any kind, this was up there with dominant sporting performances... he basically won the $250,000 in those 20 seconds. jeopardy's like my 5th favorite sport
This guy was my freaking TA for CISC106 (Intro to Computer Science). Lol he is a genius cause whenever my partner and I would ask him for help, we'd end up more confused than before
Don't know if anyone saw his semi-final round before this, but he was losing and hit two daily doubles in double jeopardy and went BIG on those as well to take control of the game and put it out of reach. This guy is my Jeopardy hero--plays the game as it should be played.
Fun fact: Roger’s total that day was so massive that it was mathematically impossible for the other two to catch up on day two. Literally. Sure, there’s “impossible” where the contestant has a guaranteed win as long as they don’t bet more than X. But this was different. Even had Tom bet every penny he had in the second day’s Final Jeopardy, and been right, he would have had $48,000. Less than Roger’s $50,000 from the first day. Therefore, Roger has the tournament on lock no matter what he does.
I hate when someone is down by say $5000 and they hit a daily double. Say there’s questions left. And they bet like 1,000. And they end up losing because of the small bet.
Tom and Buddy should just hold their buzzer by the wire in front of them as a sign of surrender. "Go ahead smarty pants, answer everything, we give up!"
I like you Roger. I'm from Suriname and traveled abroad pretty often. Many people from other parts of the world don't even know where 'Suri -what?' is. But here's a guy who knows the lingua franca of Suriname... cheers!
Id like to see a daily octuple. Where one bets it all with the daily double in the Jeopardy! round, the two daily doubles in Double Jeopardy!, and bets it all again in Final Jeopardy! I wonder if that's ever been done.
It's not enough to beat them Roger, you crushed them. I like the look on Tom's face at 1:00 - he's smiling and shaking his head in disbelief. Way to be aggressive.
I love how you can see the other two's dreams die before their eyes
It really sucks.

Not a gangster, what a risk-taker.

Most likely a very humble person as well! Humble people usually don't brag about their accomplishments like that.
Alex's silence after the second wager like : "Wait is this for real"
Little did he know a man by the name of James holzhauer would come 7 years later and literally destroy this record 3 times.
