    Hi Meike - I recently started to watch your channels. Clear and easy to understand. Enjoyed it very much. For this particular hit at open-stance when dragged wide, where would you normally aim to hit the ball? Cross court or down the line? Thanks again.

      If you can cross court. If you go down the line and they get it you leave your ad side wide open.

    Very practical instructions. About the split step, when do you initiate the jump such that you can pivot to the direction right away?

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  3 года назад +4

      You want to be at the top of your split step as your opponent makes contact, so initiate a little before that.

    For me sometimes it s not possible to load on your outside leg and return back to the middle like that. I need to do an extra step after hitting the ball because my
    Weight is still going in that direction.

      I need to do a video on the "mogul step" which addresses exactly what you're talking about. Thanks for the nudge so that I get it done!

      was thinking the same thing. There was something off with hitting AND cross stepping over with your right leg in one motion. where does the weight go / stability come from. Wish she hit some actual balls to demo

    I find the open and the semi-open stance easier than the closed stance even when I am not pulled away from the center of the court but I have to hit a hi bouncing ball, let's say chest, or shoulder height.

      I think it also depends on what your grip is. If it’s a western or close to western, it’s easier to hit with open or semi open stance. That’s my $0.02.

      Yes, that's the perfect time also to use it. You can create lift by loading and then get up to a higher contact point!

    Hello Meike, where are you working from?

  • @oz969
    @oz969 2 года назад +1

    Thanks Meike. When you're loading on your right leg, how do you ensure you dont move your body weight across on to your left leg too soon? I feel as though the open/semi open stances pull my racket head off the ball and it feels less natural than the neutral stance where your weight shifts straight forward.

      A great drill to get the "feel" for the weight transfer is to get a med ball and throw it from the open stance. Get a heavy enough one so that you feel you can't just use your arms. Your legs will naturally help if you load correctly and you'll feel the shift.

    I would imagine your left leg shouldn't be in the air dangling, but yea I can see how this can be very useful. But I don't think you need to be doing it when running right though.

    • @MeikeBabelTennis
      @MeikeBabelTennis  3 года назад +1

      If you load dynamically enough both legs will come off the ground. What you want to avoid is that you're falling over your right leg (as right-hander) and lose balance.

    • @pencilcheck

      @@MeikeBabelTennis I guess that's why you need a good shoe upper and a good strong calves so you don't lose balance.
