Woah, I thoroughly enjoyed this so much, I watched it like 5 times on repeat! Things I love about this video: 1. The music---totally love it! Sometimes I forget how music can really help our mood, but it's always like therapy for me; I've done it many times before. 2. Your new haircut looks fabulous; very Annie Lennox-like from the Eurythmics (from the 80's) and always thought she's a beautiful/powerful/spectacular singer. Anyone that can pull off super short hair like her is gorgeous! 3. I love how you didn't cut out the part of yourself hoisting up on the counter to get the tub of PB fit! Lol. I'm a shortie at 5'0", so I'm doing stuff like that all the time. 4. The fact that you use nude colored bra top and bike shorts underneath so you're not accidentally "flashing" anyone, lol. 5. Seeing you in a dress, which is rare! The t-shirt dress is the perfect choice for you! 6. I also dress semi-girly/masculine though I lean a tad more feminine than you, I love seeing your videos for inspiration. 7. I love that you drink Prosecco! 8. Love that you lock yourself in your room and dance/rock it out! 9. Seeing you dress yourself in a number of cool, casual, confident Emily-esque outfits! 10. Secret: Building up your inner ego by romanticizing yourself with "badass, empowering, fierce music"! Keep it up Emily! I'm also loving this editing--how you sit-down and talk down to earth with your cup of coffee like you're right here with me while showing me your style.
Ahhhhh thank you so much for this comment! It really means a lot to hear after putting so much work into a video. Really helps to know it home for you :-)
This is the highest compliment to you as a creator! You have a very Annie Lennox vibe and your videos are mesmerizing! You do an amazing job and you help me continue to evolve my edgy style which I developed in the 80’s and early 90’s. You are a VIBE sister🖤
Yeah, for any of us who were around in the 80’s Annie Lennox was an androgynous icon. She really knew how to balance her boyish and girlish charms. And Emily’s current haircut brings back some fond memories for me of Emily.
OMGoddess! Emily, this is The Best Video I've ever seen....and at 84 yrs., with an addiction to RUclips fashion/skincare/makeup channels, I've seen a lot. Seriously, the content, music, you dancing, the male/female balance were so very creative and heartfelt. Your look today reminded me of something I would, and do, wear....except that I almost always wear combat boots.... even in the summertime. You cannot imagine how much you have influenced me in my fashion. My current motto is: never walk out the door without at least one piece of something with "edge" on your body. Keep up the great videos, and know that there are women out there in their 80's and up, who can enjoy and benefit greatly from watching your videos. I feel that when you turn 80 you can wear anything you want and get away with it. Brava Emily!!
I'm going out tonight and was baffled with what to wear. Somehow, after watching this video, I RAN to my closet and pulled out exactly what I will wear. Thanks for the inspiration and confidence boost!
You had me at Prosecco 😂 Your style stories videography is SUPERB. I’m in my late 60s, not edgy, but I’ve followed since I found you. You are such a great teacher. Thanks Emily. I love love this newer style of filming.
Hee hee - reminds me of an idea I have had for years: that we all choose a theme song & a few bars are played whenever we enter a space! Give the vibes, musical intro, happy blending as we interact. Yep.
@@EmilyWheatley Sorry working three jobs and doing a Master's lol! I found it! Yay! Watching it now! It seems in my chaotic life I missed a lot of cool material :) Self-care time :) This video was so well done by the way and like every one has said I watched more then once :)
You have inspired me so much to be able to experiment with the things that I love which apparently includes ensuring there is a fairly striking but still minimal contrast. I'm rather minimal in stature lol.
I think the most important thing is to feel the outfit or everything you do. You can put together many, many outfits purely objectively and with your head that actually look great, but if you don't feel them yourself, you'll show it to the outside world. That's why I think it's important to try out new outfits in the mirror, to vary pieces and accessories and the styling until it fits. Just like you do in your videos. Sometimes it takes small changes, sometimes just a little time to get used to it. “My” music definitely helps with that. You can also handle situations more easily if you really immerse yourself in the moment, similar to an actor. Fake it, till you feel and make it.
When you talk about being able to move in the Nike minidress, I got Megan from Bridesmaids recall, the scene where they try on the different dresses....😊😊
Thank you so much for all of your thoughts and sharing your journey. Growing up I always felt that I struggled with the push and pull of balancing femininity and masculinity. I didn't see anyone else embracing both and that was both a sense of confidence for me and as well as a way I judged myself. As I got a bit older I learned to embrace my style even further. It's so nice to be part of a community now where I see folx who have similar style journeys. ❤
Yes! I love to do a massive try on while posing in front of the mirror! I end up with a pile of clothes on my bed and shoes on the floor. Then I enjoy putting every single item away. It's like I graduated from playing paper dolls or colorforms. Next time, I try it with music and Prosecco!
I love it! Your style complements your character and who you are! It’s inspiring and motivating at the same time! We should all find our confidence, style and purpose! 😍🤩
So a blast to the past video when you demonstrated a pocket tuck. (I think I commented that is was brilliant?) I have a rectangle trunk like you, but I also have a short torso. So high wasted waistbands basically touch my bra. So your pocket tuck has changed my life. Thanks Emily.
My confidence comes from being prepared. I plan outfits ahead so I know what I am wearing. I am not overly serious about things. Most things are really not that serious or concerning. I support my own versatility. I have many different styles and views, I explore all of them (not all at once though). 😊 I take inspiration from others, even If it does not seem to fit my personality. Confidence = just have fun.
You had me at peanut butter. 😂 But, really, I learn a new trick with each of your videos. Thanks for helping me get a bit of an edgy vibe into my wardrobe. 🖤
The dressing sequence starting at 7:43 is just pure *chef's kiss*. Love it. That is probably my favorite outfit of the bunch. While I do not share your style (I'm far too addicted to my bold colors), there is just something I find inspiring about your videos. The mix of femme/masc is something I hardcore feel and get. (There is nothing worse then getting dressed and feeling "basic white girl". Starting off the day feeling bland is never a good start.)
I love your new video format!! It seems to showcase your styling even better. Besides, they are so fun to watch. You are a Rockstar at making videos!!❤😊
Style, inspiration, music, and a truly authentic story. Your videos are amazing, they are (again) inspiring but also creatively entertaining. I, too get pumped up with music, Jack White is a favorite of mine, but I enjoy 70’s, 80’s, 90’s and up…rock, punk, alternative - it’s all good. FABULOUS JOB 😎
Hey Emily love this video. My favourite outfits were the first and last ones. I love the colour black and the scarf in the final outfit was the perfect sprinkle. You are an inspiration. Thank you. From Perth Australia.😊
I really didn’t think Emily could give any truly transferable advice on confidence. So much does come from background and support networks. Things that you either have or you don’t. But it’s true that my version of romanticising myself has been present whenever I have been confident. What I never realised was I could spread that into all areas of my life potentially. After all, if you can use it to style an outfit, what can’t you use it for?
All your videos are wonderful but this really hit the sweet spot! As a 70-year-old mom of boys your age, I still keep my style edgy (thank god I live in the NYC area). Two questions. I've heard that women of a certain age should not wear overalls. But I like the Ziggys and think the belt brings them a different vibe. 2nd, where DID you get that awesome bra? I want one, lol Love your creativity; keep it coming!
Romantizing is exactly what we all need. Love ourselves and make that love be what matters at the moment. It has been too long since I have just blasted some tunes and experimented with wardrobe. Too long. Tonight I am in Jammie's, but tomorrow is a perfect Prosecco, Rage against the Machine, and play dress! Thanks for the suggestion and the permission! You da girl! 🎉
every single time I watch your videos, I feel inspired and excited to get dressed, and experiment with the clothes, and accessories I already have, plus makeup, etc. You are the best!!!
Oh, I find this so much harder now that I’m nearing 60, with grey hair and a body that’s 15 lbs over the place where I looked good in photos. I still try to fake it and I put effort into my style, but dang if I don’t get an ego gut punch when I see photos of myself (or catch a glimpse in a mirror) with my saggy jawline and extra fluff. I don’t know how to keep myself from getting down about my aging appearance. I know it’s a privilege to age, and I’m thankful for being healthy and active!
Ive been working hard on style for about 2 years and I still have many days I hate what I put together. Glad to hear I am not alone! I guess it happens to the pros too.
I wasn't convinced that the Nike dress didn't need a belt, but once you put on the shoes and bag, it was exactly enough. I'm still not convinced that I need the mesh flats, but the Nike dress outfit made a good case for them. Love it.
I love that outfit in the end montage, it's so you and really adds to your overall vibe. And I also love the message of your video. I think it's important to acknowledge that even the people who come across as being undoubtedly confident can have their insecurities and doubts about themselves. I also get asked quite a lot how I can always be so incredibly confident and just do whatever I want. Well... I can't. I just kinda learned how to work with and around my insecurities. I might dare to do things others are afraid of or too insecure to even think of trying them, but that doesn't mean I never have doubts in what I do, what I wear, how I look like or what my overall decisions are. I am not as afraid of that anymore though, and that, I think, might be key to get over it and move on more easily. But yes, I see pictures of myself and ask me why I wore that hairstyle, that outfit, that make up or even just that jewelry. I wonder why I thought it looked good while I then feel like it looks just horrible. What I learned though: No matter how weird you may have looked that one day, it doesn't matter if you had a great time. The most important thing is to enjoy life and not to worry if our outfit is always perfect (for us) and if we always look amazing etc. The way we feel in a moment, the way we collect memories and experience, the way we learn and adjust to what we learned THAT is the most important. Style is an add on we can use to really accentuate who we are, but we don't HAVE to do it or always have to meet our own expectations perfectly. Style should be a freedom, not a burden.
❤🔥🌞🤘🏼A video from Emily...just what I needed to see! Confidence can be difficult for me since my post-menopausal body makes for ongoing clothing fitting/flattery challenges. I haven't watched in a while ... Thank you! ...YOUR HAIR!!! 😮😮 Incredible! ❤
You're so cool. I always look forward to watching your videos. Style the music your bad ass attitude you rock. Thank you for all your inspiration. Question where is your cardigan from please???...

Woah, I thoroughly enjoyed this so much, I watched it like 5 times on repeat! Things I love about this video:

Ok… that last outfit was soooo bad ass. And the tips were great too. 😂
Thank you!!!
I absolutely vibe with ‘less is more’ 😜
Glad I'm not the only one! :-)
bounce! came for the style, stayed for the music. love both :)
OMG! You, in that last outfit!!! ❤❤❤
Romanticizing myself- exactly the attitude that works for me too. Just have to do it more often
Wow. Just realized that my Ego needs a bigger and more distant mirror to perform better ❤ love it
Loved that last look! Perfection.
Thank you!!

Amazing video!!

Fun video. Fun outfits. I, however, would be suicidal wearing such a limited palette.
You got this! Going through body changes is so hard. I have been struggling with that post partum from having my twins.

Yaas, Gurrll!
Thanks.

Thanks!
Thank you so much for your extra support Susan! Really means a lot!
I’ve got to say that the black Nike dress with your hair gives off major Stranger Things ‘Eleven’ vibes.
Was your son like: ‘MOMMEEEE what are you doing?!’ 😂😋
He loves watching me film. He asked if he could pass me my shoes for each outfit in this video.
💜
