I'm happy to hear you love it and used my video to decide on it. A single knife design isn't good at doing everything you can do with a cutting tool, so it's important to have the right tool for the right job. Thanks for watching and commenting!
That’s the famous strider zip loc 😂, I prefer the larger SMF but my SNGs get a lot of pocket time, in my experience SNGs have lock stick for a couple days while breaking in and the full sizes don’t. Lock stick will go completely away once opened/closed for a couple days.
It's common for there to be lock stick on any titanium frame lock without a steel lock bar insert, so I expected that. The stick is almost gone. I'm sure I would prefer the larger SMF, as I like larger knives. Thanks for watching and commenting!
A wee bit late on this, but my two Striders from 2001, my SMF DDG Tanto came in a ziplock just like yours, but the MSC SMF XL Nightmare Grind Recurve came in an elegant padded cotton pouch. The SMF was $450 whilst the MSC was $800. Back then I had money to burn and I wanted a knife that was built like a tank. My SMF is my edc knife, still. I’m a carpenter/contractor, so I use it to open boxes, cut insulation at times, even use it to cut-open painted-shut windows and pry them open with the blade. Have not broken it yet. Not too many knives can make that claim. The G-10 is tough as nails. It’s been re-sharpened, God-knows-how many times and it’s S35V steel and heat-treated by Strider just after they took over that process from BOS. Strider builds knives, originally, for soldiers, EMT’s, police, firefighters. He was open about them not being “safe-queen” finished so it’s not unusual to see scuff marks, scratches, or even small dings on the handles. My SMF looked like it hit the factory floor a few times but it still works fine. He stands behind his lifetime warranty to the original owner. A friend of mine cracked his blade and they replaced it with no hassles other than a two week return time.
I started loving the knife after carrying it for a while. I don't do a ton of hard use stuff with my knives only because I'm not in a job that requires daily use of a knife, but you have a proven track record of this knife and I believe ya! Thanks for the comment.
SnGs are ~550 on the strider website. At Every other “dealer” they are marked up. SE charges even more due to their layaway program (which is awesome IMHO).
@@appalachianadvrider Strider’s website does drops pretty much every Friday at 2pm central. Usually only a couple models and not many pieces. A lot of the time you don’t know what model/configuration it will be until it drops. Then, IF you see one you like and can afford, you’ve got to move extremely fast and get lucky. Be on a desktop with extensions to autofill. Southern edges always charges much more than MSC website. That would have been $550 plus $20 shipping, Performance SnG’s would have been seven something (can’t remember exactly) plus $20 shipping there. Great video!
Full Ti SnG Performance from a drop directly from the Strider site was about 600. 2 weekly drops, that's the best way to get it. At that price it's competitive with Hinderer and CRKs. SE has them marked up from table prices.
Literally the only compliment I can give Strider (the person and the knives) is that they have the absolute best packaging in the game. Not even being sarcastic. Thats how they come. Edit: i lied. His "if i cant do better than them, then i have no reason to be in business" attitude towards clones, instead of whining about them is pretty commendable, too.

I agree that at nearly $900 it should need no additional attention. But for us knife nuts we are going to have ways of sharpening a knife. I have a work sharp precision tool that I just use that little device on the video and it was good enough for me for now. Thanks for watching and commenting

I purchased it at Southern Edges. They were available last week and haven't checked their website since. They are $875 I really like that pivot and that's part of the reason I chose that one.
That would be the pivot that comes with the "performance" sngs. Standard sngs still have the pivot that requires the proprietary tool to remove/adjust.

For $800-900, the options from CRK, Hinderer, MKT, and other semi-customs are just better. I'll have to stick with my Pro-Tech Strider SNG😊 . ✌️

You aren't going to hear me argue with that! I sounded really disappointed in the knife in the video lol I certainly think this knife isn't worth $900, though the subject of "value" means different things to different people, so I don't ever talk about that in my videos. Some people would say paying $70 for a knife is crazy as well, so there is that. But I do agree that the quality of this knife in general is questionable, and it's way over priced for what you are getting. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Love and Hate. Seems to be what I hear most folks say. I fall somewhere in between for most of the regular models. They have come and gone. But the performance series has impressed me. I consider myself a pretty forgiving user not really that anal about anything, so I didn't hate it. Lol. If those issues existed with some other "new" knife company or model, we wouldn't find that acceptable. But in the self defense role this knife seems optimized. As always, thanks for watching and your support!
Just got a SnG black g10 gunner grip with tiger stripe blade and flamed titanium in magnacut and feel the same way with similar findings. Took it apart to re oil it because it sounded gritty but it was previously owned and resold at Arizona customs. It appeared new and unused so feel it was factory fresh just marked up for aftermarket. Will have to break it in for sure and the lock stick. Ugh.
The lockstick will definitely go away. I've come to really like this knife for one particular function ... As a hard use, come get some knife. It needs a little sharpening right out the plastic bag, but if you're buying expensive knives, then you probably have that ability to sharpen it. Would I trust my life to this knife in an aggressive situation? Yes! Would I trusted it cut a bunch of boxes easily all day long? No. So it's all about how you intend to use it.
