I’m a 71yo veteran and retired pilot. I always enjoyed his shows on TV. It actually motivated me to become a pilot. I’m sure he had a lot of fun. So count your blessings where you can.

And ironic since his mom begged a California National Guard Recruiter to get him in the Guard so he wouldn't have to go to Vietnam. I know, I was at the retirement dinner for the Recruiter and Vincent was a guest. He made a total Ass of himself.

Being sober for 15 years I know the Life that I could have had if I didn't stop drinking alcohol. It was sad to hear his slurred words and things he had done I can't even bring myself to say. People tried to help him, but alcohol won. Wasted Life.
Big Wednesday is a classic surf movie. Jan essentially seemed to play himself in that movie. I love that movie and Jan did a great job acting his part.
As a pop culture junkie, I was a little disappointed that JMV's late '60s gig on the Saturday morning kid's show "The Banana Splits" serial "Danger Island" wasn't mentioned.
I met him in the 1980's. I was invited to a dinner for a retiring California National Guard Recruiter, (I was an Army Recruiter in SoCal at the time), who managed to get Vincent in the Guard so he wouldn't have to go to Vietnam. His mother came to his office begging him to get her son in. He told her he didn't have a slot for him but she persisted and he made it happen. The dinner was at a Polynesian place and Vincent got drunk and made a total Ass out of himself. The manager even threatened to throw us out if we didn't get him under control. He was a troubled man. Good actor, but not a great one.
I was 14 when Airwolf first aired, and I was blown away by the whole thing. I thought Jan-Michael was the ideal pilot for Airwolf, heroic and stoic. That show lit a fire in me to become a helicopter pilot and build my own autogyro, but a later horrific crash by a friend of mine put an end to all of that idiocy, lol. I was a model builder as a kid, and Airwolf was one of most-loved models. Jan-Michael ranked right up there in my kid mind with Batman and all the other superheroes.
I was living in Mission Viejo CA when he had his accident in 1996. His car hit a large metal light pole. It was widely reported that it was a DUI related accident. Was very sad to hear of his accident. He lived at Lake Mission Viejo at the time, which was a beautiful area. Just wish he had an easier life and didn’t get caught up in alcohol abuse. He had the looks and talent to be able to act well into his later years but couldn’t escape his demons. He was one actor I would’ve like to have met and thanked him for his body of work. RIP JMV.
Hey I remember a very early movie he made called white Line fever he played a young soldier I think returning home from Vietnam and buying a Semi Truck will always remember the name of his character in this movie Carol Joe Hummer ,i enjoyed it and the Mechanic and never missed Airwolf cool characters and helicopters he was well matched to Ernie Borgnine ,as a kid in the 70,s who didn't want to be as cool as Jan Michael Vincent Kym Adelaide

Actors have to live with the paradox that their entire success in their field rests with their own personal appeal and that even if they become very successful for a particular time period, times inevitably change, and they may not be able to keep up with changing tastes. This insecurity is a challenge for all actors and leads some into neurotic and self-destructive behavior.

I remember the movie "Tribes" but I couldn't remember the title of the movie or one of the stars of the movie, Jan-Michael Vincent. For some reason I woke up this morning and I thought of Jan-Michael Vincent. It dawned on me that his was the actor who played the hippie turned Marine in the movie tribes. I tried for at least a couple of years to figure out the name of the movie or the actor who played the hippie named "Adian". The movie had other solid performances. I spent some time reading and reviewing Jan-Michael Vincent's life and career. I want to watch some of his other movies and TV performances. As a teenager when "tribes" came out, I was very deadset against war or me ever joining the military. The movie had a huge impact on me and my belief that there has to be a better way in this world. I respect the men and women in the military, but the concept of forcibly drafting pacifists into the military seems so wrong to me, then and now. I'm sorry to hear of the troubles that Jan-Michael Vincent had with drugs and alcohol.
My favorite Jan Michael film was Damnation Alley. His character was a guy named "Tanner"; a survivor in a post-apocalyptic world before Mel Gibson, and more fun. Tanner could dodge blood thirsty scorpions, man eating cockroaches and human mutants one minute, then enjoying pizza and beer the next. He made better movies; I know, but I really got a kick out of Tanner. I try to follow his example, just without the beer part. Vincent was a very realistic actor. It was shocking and painful to see how he went down.
When I was about 9 years old he starred in one of his Movies White line fever that was my favorite of his he played with Kay Lenz in that movie. So sad what happened to him 😢
All things considered, 74 is pretty average for a life, but I do wish he didn’t struggle with the drugs the way he did. Beyond that though, he is literally one of the most handsome men to have ever lived.
Jan-Michael Vincent was so good looking. I Loved him in White Line Fever, Buster and Billie and The Mechanic. Never missed an episode of Airwolf. He was a very good Actor. Don't know why someone so beautiful and talented has to turn to drugs and alcohol. It literally destroyed him. So very sad. I was shocked at his decline.

He produced his best ever album, “Only the Lonely”-his “suicide album” from that experience. His best album ever. Listen to it while drinking one small shot Bourbon. He later quietly paid her medical bills when she was very sick.
Good looks don’t last a lifetime. Even the more attractive need to be careful not to live in excess and take good care of them. Looks are transient- they soon flee.
His personal demons destroyed him. If I remember correctly, one of his health issues that caused the amputation of his leg below the knee also somewhat may also be responsible for some of his memory blackouts in which he didn't recall being in one of those accidents. A case could be made in saying that Hollywood was partly to blame for his addictions because he grew up in a time in Hollywood where drug and alcohol abuse were all the rage.
I remember that my favourite show as a kid was Airwolf and because of his substance abuse the show ended due to him beating his wife. It was taken very seriously and while there might have been other factors, I remember the show finishing during a high point in ratings as far as I knew. Although I live in Australia so maybe it was a hit over here but less so overseas.

When I was about 9 years old he starred in one of his Movies White line fever that was my favorite of his he played with Kay Lenz in that movie. So sad what happened to him 😢

Im 64 yrs old and I can honestly say that until this video I had never heard of Airwolf let alone JMV.

All things considered, 74 is pretty average for a life, but I do wish he didn’t struggle with the drugs the way he did.
Beyond that though, he is literally one of the most handsome men to have ever lived.

I really liked the movie JMV did with Burt Reynolds called Hooper. Even though it wasn't one of his best performances. Rest In Paradise JMV.
Jan-Michael Vincent was so good looking. I Loved him in White Line Fever, Buster and Billie and The Mechanic. Never missed an episode of Airwolf. He was a very good Actor. Don't know why someone so beautiful and talented has to turn to drugs and alcohol. It literally destroyed him. So very sad. I was shocked at his decline.

Sad but true. Ava was very beautiful back in the day.
@@FactsVerse Frank Sinatra was so distraught after Ava divorced him, he stuck his head in an oven to suffocate to death. A close friend pulled him out of that.
He produced his best ever album, “Only the Lonely”-his “suicide album” from that experience. His best album ever. Listen to it while drinking one small shot Bourbon.
He later quietly paid her medical bills when she was very sick.
Good looks don’t last a lifetime. Even the more attractive need to be careful not to live in excess and take good care of them. Looks are transient- they soon flee.
His personal demons destroyed him. If I remember correctly, one of his health issues that caused the amputation of his leg below the knee also somewhat may also be responsible for some of his memory blackouts in which he didn't recall being in one of those accidents. A case could be made in saying that Hollywood was partly to blame for his addictions because he grew up in a time in Hollywood where drug and alcohol abuse were all the rage.
I remember first seeing him in Winds of War, and then I had to get my hair cut like him!
This dude had a million dollar career and got to smash Basinger! And he just pissed it all away.
You forgot to mention his best movie Big Wednesday. Beside the surfing it was like an autobiography.

We're a big fan of Jan too. Which of his roles appealed to you the most?
I remember that my favourite show as a kid was Airwolf and because of his substance abuse the show ended due to him beating his wife. It was taken very seriously and while there might have been other factors, I remember the show finishing during a high point in ratings as far as I knew. Although I live in Australia so maybe it was a hit over here but less so overseas.
