I'm Rick Harrison and this is my pawn shop. I work here with my old man and my son, Big Hoss. One thing I learned after 21 years you never know what'll come through that door.

If you put a nokia phone in timecapsule now and open in year 2315 there will still be 70% charged battery.
I'm still on my initial charge today. Only at 93%.
I have a 1999 Sanyo phone from Sprint. During a trip, I lost the charging cable back then and still the phone has 1 battery line left.
Obviously I turn this thing on from time to time and even today worked!
This is true, I seent it.

Ok
James Porter you must be a very slow writer
Wow I couldn't agree with you more.
In 2012, me and my friends had the same idea and put a lot of toys, games and cards in an iron case. We told ourselves that we would Bury it up when we graduated Middle school.
So now, 2019, we graduated, dug it up and put a new one in the hole with memories of Middle school with the promise to dig it up when we graduated college. It's worth the time to do this
Good luck chief

Oh crap he does
Remarkably poor coverage: lots of chatter, very little information. And it's a pity that the public will get so little exposure to these items. I hope, anyway, that photos become available before it's put back in storage.

I found a time capsule behind a church keystone that I was putting an addition on. It was filled with photos and stuff about the church in the 1800's. The church people updated everything and added new photos (I'm in one of them) and resealed it all in a new time capsule placed behind the new keystone on the new building addition.

The coins represent the freedom of the people. Republicans and Democrats are moving backward in time.
***** The people created their own money in defiance of the government who was trying to enslave them. The coins were a symbol of their freedom from British rule.

People I just need to know
Why has the level of writing dropped so significantly? Amazing Handwriting in those days.
Adam Samuel because those that knew to write were rare so usually they were taught and constantly practiced the quality of writing.
Nowadays everyone can write and read so it isn’t hard to read a number of people’s handwritings so they don’t need extreme quality.
Because handwriting needed to be completely legible by everybody back then. Ever since the introduction of the typewriter, we haven't needed neat handwriting nearly as much
And that's why you can never read your doctor's notes
@Big O cursive writing and reading were required at my school, maybe it depends on the area.
My Grandma called it script writing.

after a storm on the Koh Samui Island in 2005 there was a hole three meters deep on the beach, before they filled it up again, I threw a time capsule into it, made of thick glass, with a non-organic closure, airtight. the content is valuable.
RUclips decided to bring me here, and I’m pleased
My old backyard had a box that was left by then slaves with notes and letters an old candy a hand made hair rag and a old looking harmonica I’m guessing we were unsure what that was really
My husband and I put a time capsule behind our medicine cabinet when we remodeled our bathroom. We’ll be long gone when it’s discovered.
I was present at a time capsule burial in Mesa Az back in 1976. Betty Ford was the honored presider of the event. It is to be opened in 2076. If I live to be 113 years old, I plan to be there.
“Maybe they’re trying to hint at something” or maybe they just thought it would be a neat idea to preserve something from their time so the future can see what some commonly used items looked like then...
I was dumpster diving about 40 years ago when I found a really old I guess it was a boxer jewelry box but somebody threw it out and it was beautiful it was beautifully made and yet there was a mirror that was in it but the mirror was cracked which is I guess why they threw it out but behind the mirror was a newspaper and the newspaper was from 1750 and it was very interesting I still read it from time to time

I sealed an Atari 2600 with all the games I had, a TRS colour computer data cassette with several games I wrote in Quickbasic, Rough Rider 4x4, several Transformers action figures, parachute pants, all coins from 1991, a RadioShack CB Wlakie Talkie with three channels and three watts, a calculator watch, cassette music of the time, and a VHS of, "The Never Ending Story." I put it all inside an aluminum tool box for a pickup truck that was dented up really bad and was going to be thrown away. It was still airtight so I made the strange time capsule. Then I closed it, epoxied the seam where the box opened so it was sealed. Then I lowered the box into the incomplete basement of a school being built. The next day, a foundation was poured where a large water pipe manifold was going to be placed. The box was covered completely with concrete. A few days later, the manifold was installed over the reinforced concrete slab. Today, the school is still functioning. Maybe one day in the future, someone will find the aluminum time capsule when the school will be demolished. I found a 55 gallon nylon barrel that still seals extremely good. This one gets an i5 laptop running Ubuntu, a Galaxy Note 9, a ten dollar bill, two USB flash drives with photographs, an Xbox 1 with a few games, coins, and more to come. This one is being buried in a house that is being rehabilitated. The in-ground pool will be filled in mid summer and a garage will be built over it. I will never find out if they are ever discovered.
It would be cool to see if they can lift fingerprints off of the items
This is how you handle artifacts I was beyond disgusted at how they handled the General E Lee artifacts time capsule. So shameful and destructive
that newspapers are probably worth reading more then all modern media combined.
People in the past put such careful thought into the objects they placed in time capsules. Cities and towns today put silly things in time capsules like packs of bubble gum, cell phones, and pop culture magazines.

“Most worshipful Paul Revere” that’s a Masonic title, and a masonic document
You beat me to it. I didn't know he was also a Mason.
Yup, I was getting ready to write that it's a Freemason title.
Bridgette Parrish yup! Good call. Much more to societies than what we see at first glance. Signs, symbols, and language. God help us!🙏
Bridgette Parrish Also, the bottom of the plate identified it as being don at the "grand Lodge of Massachusetts" by the deputy grand Marshall.
Paul Revere was an active Freemason in Boston for many years, and held many offices in two different lodges. He belonged to St. Andrews Lodge, and was a founding member of Rising States Lodge. He served as Worshipful Master nine times between both lodges, and he also served for three years as the Grand Master of the Massachusetts Grand Lodge.
Wish they could have used a larger box and included everyday items of the time. Still really interesting though.
God please tell me they’re not gonna “refurbish” the coins. Especially if they were placed there by Sam Adams and Paul Revere. Any body who collects coins knows how severe of a mistake this would be. Those coins probably haven’t been cleaned since they were made and you’re gonna just wash them like it’s nothing. God forbid
Don't worry, They usually hire actual historians/numismatists for these kind of things, not news reporters.
In Milford, New Hampshire, the Town Hall Bell is a Paul Revere Original Bell cast by himself. It still rings.
the American Republic was created in 1788, not 1776.
wrong
@jaue82 No. nothing was created in 1776. the Treaty of Paris established that Britain's claims were finished, but that was it until 1788.
To be 'Touching and grabbing those items from the Capsule...and to realize....'The last person to handle them...were Samuel Adams and Paul Revere. ( except for the opening in 1855 by 'nobody) Still.... Pretty damn Heavy.....
I'm pretty sure the creators of the capsule were hoping for a better audience.
I’m making a time capsule and I thought of a few things you could include:
A note - Kinda obvious
Your favorite book(s)
Some coins or money
A piece of clothing
Masks
An mp3 player with some music on it - make sure it is wrapped TIGHTLY in multiple layers of plastic and also include the charger
A picture of yourself and others
A few pictures of famous places and landmarks so they can compare in the future (If you don’t want it to be opened for in quite a while)
A story about Covid
Fidgets because why not
A diary
Your favorite toy or something
A list of your favorite places or things
A note of your goals
A note about your life
And a few things that you think would be cool or historical in the future
