Amazing we used to sing this when I was in school. It's great to know the origins of each line.

My mother taught it to me 65 years ago. I'd forgotten 11, 9,8,7, and 6 thanks for the refresher. It was a fun performance and I'm surprised the audience knew it too.

That was really adorable! My sister and I sang that on a family hiking trip almost four decades ago. We were just in Hawaii visiting my dad in the ICU and we sang it to him again - a bit more seriously. He passed away and never woke up - but I truly believe he heard us. However, your version really made my day. Thank you!

I am a Scout Assistant Leader and I heard this lovely hymn version at a Scout Camp fire lead by the leaders and Explorers who just simply made the heavens open the most lively song that still rings in my ears.
I checked it out on RUclips and found one that only went up to 6 and other cerium versions not so good

I do not remember hearing this song for well over 50 years when I was a young man, but for some strange reason it came into my head just after getting up this morning. So straight to google which led me to this version, great, but how remarkable is the human brain for this to happen.

At Boy Scout Camp Horseshoe in Rising Sun, Maryland we would sing this song at the mess hall. It is one of my favorite memories of my youth and this video brings back the memories and does it great justice.

This is where I learned this song too. 1960s. So many songs we would sing at meals, along with short skits by the staff.

Hi, have no clue what this is about for I was driven here by Burns' "Green grow the rushes", but I'm happy nevertheless and will get to learn about this song too, so thank you for both the song and the lovely performance.

The mysterious words of this carol and it's origin has always intrigued me. It's thought to English but there is an argument that it is French but the English have the tradition of counting songs. And then it first appears in manuscript in Hebrew, but remember the earliest written recipe for Cock-a-leekie is in an English cook book. I wish those old timers had been a bit freer with their record keeping.
