I still hold Figuarts as the superior figure line, but I agree that their recent Mandos are far to fiddly and unpredictable. Mafex wins this one. The new Boba Fett, on the other hand, is a work of art.
I mean everyone has there preferance. But just because a product is outrageously over priced ,doesn't mean there better. Sh figuarts is by far the crappiest out there. There barely worth 20 bucks but they somehow have made people believe there worth 3 or 4 times that? It makes no sense. After getting ripped off with the 89 batman....I said nope never again. It was garbage
Man the tension building up to that inevitable arm issue was fantastic, it was like a sports game. The whole review was going smooth enough, the figure was performing decently, couple issues here and there but also some improvements over it's last performance, then the figure makes one last colossal slipup at the last second, costing it the game.
The shoulder problem is definitely a Figuarts problem. I've had 3-4 figures that have had ball joints that are unreasonably tight. Best thing to do is add the silicone shock oil and work it for a good minute or... five. It'll get there, but it will take some work.
Thanks for the review! It made me happy that I had to end up cancelling my pre-order. It would have been my first SW SH Figuarts, and it doesn't seem like I would have had a great experience with it. $120 saved!!
@@user-hq6nq2on2z I was more commenting on how little issues $20 black series figures have in comparison to the “high end” shf version that are usually $80-$100. For something as bad as the arm popping off that easily, there’s kind of no excuse
It is high end whether you like it or not. I am quite enjoying mine. All figure brands experience qc issues, and this doesn't seem to be 'Mafex comic paint wrist peg' wide spread.
After a lot of back and forth, I ultimately decided to go with the Black Series as my default beskar Mando. After kitting him out with add-on bits I've seen in your vids like a helmet, cape, etc. I've ultimately spent the same amount on him that I would have spent on an import. But I end up with something that's more fun to play with, fits in better with the rest of my Black Series figures, and I supported a number of customizers along the way. Imports seem to have really lost their luster in the last few years, save for some exceptions.
The over complicated parts of this figure has made me not want to get any mando figs. Still looks good, but a pain in the ass to configure. Great vid uncle Robo!!
Figuarts has very little going for it nowadays. Character selection? Few and far between. Faces? Amazing at first but Hasbro's photo real has blown it out of the water. Sculpt? Cartoony, especially weird with helmeted characters. Price? Oof. Bandai's really been dropping the ball lately, not just with their figures but with their model kits too, they make so little nowadays and they're so hard to get. Great review man!!
I agree. I feel like MAFEX has been killing it compared to SHF. Getting the feeling that SHF is getting kind of dated? Idk, I just don’t feel the same about it anymore :(
I’ve always wondered if you played with the figure and took photos first; then recorded the actual review second. Or the other way around. I guess this answers that question
I'm so glad I saw your review, I was super close to ordering one of these (I am also on the quest for a definitive 6" Mando). Wow what a disaster of a figure. I owned (yes past tense) the first two SH Figuarts and they frustrated me so bad I had to sell them. I might look into the Mafex Mando. Thanks as always!
As much as I love my figurarts mando the amount of work I had to put into was pretty bad. Repainted the whole suit Weathered the boots John Walker neck peg John Walker knee pad 3rd party cape that doesn’t Frey Casting cave helmet Etsy season 2 thigh piece Gluing parts. It’s more of an expensive base figure for customizing😂
I'm sorry that happened to your arm! It's an issue I have been fortunate enough not to experience on any figuarts figure I have gotten but will keep an eye out for it in the future. Regarding the figure itself, I'm just glad the little grey square on the bandolier stays on mine this time around. The previous one protruded and would fall out at the tiniest movements. Overall I'm happy with the new one--though Boba Fett blows it out of the water in terms of shelf presence (love the colors on that one).
Crazy. Over engineering or using a cheaper product? I own SF Figuarts Infinity War Hulk and two Geonosis Battle droids. Nothing else. I’m too hard on my toys so I can’t function with these lighter weight puzzles that cost more. I do like how the Mando armor shines.
If you cant get a custom neck pag. You just swap the neck from the helmet and din djarin face. The reveal head neck is longer so if you swap over it will have a longer nack. Only drawback is skin haha but its a workaround
Back in the day I would’ve said SHF beats all other figure lines, and that still may hold true to their Dragonball (Z) line and other anime properties, but when it comes to live action stuff, they just don’t hold up anymore. Half the face sculpts on their MCU figures are downright awful, not to mention the extra face that isn’t more than the standard face looking sideways, joints are loose or simply pop off at the drop of a hat. That is simply unacceptable given their price range. Star Wars was one of their better properties but it’s still a very mixed bag and I’m tired of gambling with 80-90 dollar figures, hoping to have one that isn’t riddled with flaws. Their drop in quality drove me to Black Series and honestly, I’m happier than ever. Face sculpts and printing are getting better and in a few years time I wouldn’t be surprised Hasbro catches up with SHF, and perhaps even beat them at their own game, they are already so close. The only advantage Figuarts still holds over Hasbro that won’t change any time soon is the accessories and honestly I’m not willing to pay 50 bucks more for accessories of which half I’ll never use.
It's such a shame Bandai seems to only be making figures from the latest Disney+ series. A lot of their movie stuff was great, I was playing around with their TFA Han recently and he's amazing. They've had so many fumbles over the last year or two though.
Why is the cape so dark? It's not that dark in the show, the previous version fit better. It's kinda funny that you can put his legs in four wheel drive mode... I have the previous one and doesn't have the issues shown here but the shoulder pad having trouble staying on and the tiny pieces are annoying, I never use the rifle because it just looks like it'll break if I try to pose it or I'll lose a piece. I may have gotten lucky with mine but there are still issues. Kinda scared to get Boba but it looks like he's better put together even if a little stiff.
Just finished your SHF Mando review trilogy with a side of Mafex, very entertaining! Weird they're both way overthinking the bandolier strap, and the capes seem like afterthought. You going to review the new versions coming out soon?
I've got action figures of my best favorites. Look at all we got to collect them like superman and batman. Flash and aquaman. Cool ideas to find in store or online
Nice review. The leg plate is from the droid Zero that tried to kill Grogu. Wonder why he uses wrists plates from a Shoretrooper as well. Neat little details 😎😎
Man my wallet hates when i click on your reviews. It knows its getting gutted or at least lighter. Hahahaha. Love your reviews. Always fun. Best reviewer. Love them. Thanks Robo.
The very first thing I did when I opened the figure was take the Rifle strap off and replaced it with the tiny bit. I will never touch the rifle or that strap again, lol.
This is why I’m always adminant getting some shf. It’s more then I’m usually down to spend, but I’d be down to if I haven’t heard about so many quality issues.
This is so expensive that I can't justify purchasing it. I hope Black Series will release a Single Pack Season 2 Mandalorian. But with the reveals, it may not come until Season 3. I am still on the fence in buying the Black Series Maldo Kreis Mando. It is season 2 ver.but the snow effects kinda ruins the figure for me. Maybe, the snow effect can be removed via alcohol or paint remover, but it scary how it would affect the beskar part of the figure. Very informative review as always. I do hope the issue with the arm is just for your figure though, as that would suck if it is a common issue for everyone.
Ah bummer that happened Robo. I actually had that arm issue with my Mafex Mando (was super disappointed with that one due to the dumb rifle attachments and pink blaster). This is actually my definitive Mando on the shelf
Thanks for the review, great as always! I really wanted to like this one a whole lot more than the others...but I think I actually still prefer the Bandai Model Kit version the best.
Was really hoping for this figure to excel, but I think I’ll just keep my Black Series on the shelf. He’s a bit simple but at least he doesn’t have any glaring issues. Plus I can at least play with him
I don't know what figuarts is doing, it's been a while since they've made a good star wars figure... and it feels like they become more and more expensive for worse and worse figures... I think they still beat the black series in term of articulations, but that's pretty much it now... I have my mafex mandalorian, and I don't see why I should buy a figuarts, even the boba fett, I made a custom Tython Boba Fett and a BoBF Boba fett from bandai model kit, and I love them more than anything figuarts want to sell...
Guys! If you want Mando to have a larger neck just use the one that comes with Pedro Pascals head, you just gotta heat and swap, since Pedro Pascals head sculpt neck is larger it will look better
For a such expensive figure I share the rating. I have also a problem with the right hand side shoulder plate and the feets are enormous. The plate tends to fall of at articualtion. That sucks. At this price point I expect more than from a Black Series Figure. And yes, the figure is standing next to me right now. And yes, the 2nd iteration was better, at least the version that I own. But it still looks good.
After watching this I actually chose to grab the mafex , I have the v1 beskar mando and this is very similar like you said, give or take some shades and some Cool accessories , Thankyou for comparing so closely ; interestingly I feel like the v1 beskar armour is way more shiny and the mafex grogu is also painted amazingly and looks the most like grogu in the show and for some reason the S2 mando is going for £130 here which is crazy so mafex mando got my vote out of these two
@@TheFwoosh Really great review, Robo. I had Mando and Boba on preorder on AmiAmi and decided to cancel both (more to the story there) because I was afraid I'd be disappointed. Kind of glad the order didn't go through.
Dang I was really hoping this would be my definitive Mando figure because of the updated look and accessories. I wouldn't have minded if proportions was the only thing Mafex had against it, but I guess I'll have to wait for their s2 figure then.
I mean it's not even a sure thing they're making one. I just got mine yesterday and it kills the mafex in every way except proportions(I own the mafex as well).
@@nickiii2458 I mean I'd hope so. With the way things have been lately, they reveal the figure at least a year after the show, then release it another year later. Hopefully Mando doesn't have too much of a costume change in his next season.
QC issues? My Boba Fett had loose neck joint in the helmeted head, and new run of heavy mando has a loose leg and arm. I hope I get replacements though. Bandai is dropping the ball a bit in terms of quality....
Robo, how did you swap the neck peg? Did you soak in hot water or hair dryer? I've tried several times swapping it out but cant even get the original peg out.
I was originally gonna get this but I felt the slightly higher price than the previous beskar mando with just a unmask head, statue grogu, spear & nothing really new sculpt wise from the previous ones to set it apart was a skip. At least when figuarts released new Vaders they did new things to set the previous releases apart from the others and they got better each time. With the mandalorians not so much they just used the figure released twice already and do very little with it than the previous beskar armor which imo was better than this mando. Here's to hoping when they do another which they will because he's in book of boba fett & because of a season 3 they go back to the drawing board with a 2.0 mandalorian and not do another re-release of this mold.
Yeah, I looked up the other day and have a group of Grogus that I don't even use just standing in a huddle. Remember when we were begging for Baby Yoda after the reveal, and it took months? How times change, haha!
Wish I’d seen this video before I opened mine. Had the same problem with that left arm. Just came right off when I tried to swivel the bicep 😔. Have you found a fix to this?
The arm falling off is just star wars thing. Anakin, Luke, C-3PO, Dooku, Mace Windu, General Grevious and etc all lost their appendages. If it was gonna happen it would be Star wars
I didn’t have this particular issue with the arm on mine, but I did think the unmasked portrait was terrible. SHF is getting worse and worse with lightnesses. They did a great job with the 2012 Avengers, but Din Djarin and derpy-eyed Boba Fett are just awful…and Love & Thunder Thor and Jane don’t look much better.
Based on the price point, the Black Series is head and shoulders above the rest. If I’m going to spend that much money on an action figure, I better not have any quality issues like portrayed here.
oh yeah I've been looking forward to this and Happy Birthday Robo 🎁🎂🎉🥳

The arm falling off is just star wars thing. Anakin, Luke, C-3PO, Dooku, Mace Windu, General Grevious and etc all lost their appendages. If it was gonna happen it would be Star wars
Are those alternative heads that come with the first S.H. Figuarts child figure interchangeable with this Grogu? I'd like to use one for the satchel.
They are. Another reviewer showed you could switch out the closed eye group head with both this body and the satchel
Gah, I didn't think to try that, I'll have to give it a shot.
@@DocD173 That's very nice, I'll have one more Grogu! Thanks for the answer.
That headsculpt looks like Michael from GTA 5 😂
Haha, now I can't unsee that!
The one armed Mando killed my wife!
Uatu watches from the upside down.
Based on the price point, the Black Series is head and shoulders above the rest. If I’m going to spend that much money on an action figure, I better not have any quality issues like portrayed here.
I’m fiending for a play day robo
Me too! I keep finding stuff to tweak, haha!
@@TheFwoosh which only means the next one will be epic as always
Are the heads of this grogu Grogu swappable with the soft clothes shf Grogu?
My mafex one his leg broke while posing. Sucked.
