Replacing the fan art with Chris Pratt’s face that was hilarious to me 😂
I was reading comments and didn't notice that.

@@volt42re l is for luigi
I love how insanely hard the trailer went in the opening.
Jack Black was clearly THE pick for Bowser, and that was just an absolutely brilliant introduction. Zero direct violence, but an absurd show of power and a clear image of how Bowser poses a massive threat to this world.
Also, flying lava castles will never NOT be amazing.
The drum rolls like it's some marvel movie lol
And then the ending of the trailer was the most bland shit possible. When the movie comes out, someone needs to do a fandub of JUST mario
@@jacobschott6955 Yeah, bringing back Mario World’s Bowser Island was really cool, I like how they just presented it as not even being a reference
@@PuppyPrincess Bro the voice ain't even that bad, he's from Brooklyn and in the Super Mario Super Show the accent fits. I just think the accent needs to be a bit stronger and it'll fit right in.
The way the made Jack Black Bowser likable *and* intimidating in only the trailer was just spine chilling. 100% the best part.
Jack Black's Bowser is like how he is in the RPG games. Definitely a great fit!
If the Bowser part didn't exist the trailer definitely would have been bad in my opinion. But as it is now the amazing Bowser and the terrible Mario balance each other out for me lol.
@@hajilee4539 Nintendo knows that Bowser and Luigi are fan favourites. It's why Bowser got such a huge showing and why Luigi at the end was such a big deal.
@@Manganization For sure, I hope Luigi and Peach get highlighted in the next big trailer.
@@AquaWolf27 I hope we get superstar saga style jokes!
I love how Kamek sounds pretty old.
He was an adult when Bowser, Mario and the main cast were babies, and I feel like they did a great job capturing him from what we've seen.
Good to see a fellow Mario lore enjoyer.
@@LimeDida Happy to live up to my name
I was a little iffy on kamek at first but after seeing the trailer a couple more times I've come to really like it!
The trailer was genuinely promising. I think Nintendo probably had a big hand in the narrative.
I doubt that considering miyamoto hates story
They more likely helped shape whatever illumination writers had in mind
@@hylianro pretty sure miyamoto made the paper mario and mario and luigi games
After what happened last time of course they did.
@@hylianro my dude if you don't know how tight a grip modern Nintendo has on the balls of anyone, *anyone,* they lend their ips to then all I can say is...
Welcome to the internet, you're obviously new here.
It's really says something when you watch all the other language trailers and EVERY SINGLE MARIO is doing an actual Mario voice.
The Mario movie might finally get me to learn another language
Very true
I hope Nintendo does two versions of the movie, with Charles doing the voice for Mario in one version.
eeh the german one has the mainstay chris pratt voice actor and he delivers... chrisp ratt
Reminds me of the Simpsons bit with the other Itchy and Scratchy shows being higher rated than the OG one in Springfield.
I just love how Bowser sounds. It feels like Jack's enjoying himself.
He seems to enjoy a lot of his character portrayals
HOW DARE YOU DISTURB OUR FAMILY VACATION!
I love it so much🤣
@@RottinGaming this is Jack Black in a nutshell, he's a great actor and voice actor that always gives his 120% to every role he does

It's gonna be funny if every character has a great or at least adequate voice actor except for Mario.
@mot silin i dont remember much of super show but I'm SURE it at least had flavor to its performances
@mot silin you're most definitely not alone in this aspect
The IDEA is funny, but I guarantee that no one will be laughing in that theater...
I think Bowser's gonna be the highlight for this thing. And coming off the Sonic movies, an entertaining villain being the best part is not a problem at all.
True. The best part of Disney's Hercules was Hades
So much so the myth guys love him despite that being Satan in a toga instead of hades
That is pretty true. Dr. Eggman, Bowler-Hat Guy, Hades, Shrek 2, King Candy, Tai Lung.
If you have a villain, and the villain is actually fun and entertaining to watch, then you wrote the movie to at least "pretty good" status.
Oh for sure, tbh I was wondering how well Jack could pull off Bowser, but he did a fantastic job at making him super intimidating
@@leoultimaupgraded9914 here's hoping we actually get more than 5 minutes of intimidating Bowser. I really, really hope we don't just get an intimidating villain for the opening and a bumbling idiot with "HILARIOUS" incompetent henchmen for the rest of the film. For now it seems Nintendo isn't allowing Illumination to do their usual thing, but... Well, let's keep expectations in check, just to be sure.
That's certainly an angle I hadn't considered before. Chris Pratt Mario just being Mario with Chris Pratt's voice means you can edit any Chris Pratt line over Mario and it'll make sense, which has to have some serious meme potential.
"THAT'S MY FREAKING FATHER!"
Like when you find out the English voice of Hisoka is the same as the narrator for Peppa Pig
"SHOWTIME, A-HOLES!!"

@@Celestial914 oh noooooo
I'm waiting for the edit of the movie when they mix the English voice lines of everyone but Mario who's French for some reason and having subtitles whenever he speaks. This would not only enhance the experience but also be hilarious. Think of Luigi speaking just English, and then his brother answers in French every time. I need this.
There's already a fan edit of the trailer like this. The channel is Anything Goes.
I am definitely planning on doing a full blow fan edit of the movie when it comes out to do just that ;)
@@hajilee4539 I'll hold you to that (if that happens!)
Personally, I want to see an edit that replaces Mario’s voice with the Mario & Luigi pseudo-Italian gibberish. It’d be so funny.

Another thing of note for Charles' Mario voice is that he did a lot of *actual talking* in his audition for the voice. If you look up the clips, it's actually a really solid voice, not grating at all. I think he just kinda plays up the high pitched "It's-a me!" of the voice for sound clips because it's more memorable that way
Finally someone else brought up Kamek! His performance is underrated
Kamek is always underrated. When Kamek shines, the other characters are just that much better that Kamek is overlooked.
Bowser always does his best bad, when he's got a magikoopa backing him up.
He sounds like Mouser from the Mario Brothers Super Show to me xD
I mean, Kamek was the reason why Mario is MARIO. He separated Mario and Luigi from each other, which makes me wonder, are they going to adapt some of Yoshi's island to fit with the Super Mario movie? Because if you look at the end of the trailer, Luigi is not with Mario, indicating that Mario doesn't even know he has a brother! MAN THIS MOVIE IS GONNA BE SICK!!!
Finally, Super Mario in real life.

Keegan-Michael Key.
It’s pretty good
Not as grating as Toad's original voice, yet it still sounds like how I would imagine Toad to sound.
@@R0-83-RT they literally can't do the Toad voice the whole movie because the real Toad VA has to take week long breaks to let their vocal cords recover become it shreds their throat lol
My friend thought it could've been better
I think it's perfect! Not too annoying yet annoyingly positive. That is just how I've always seen the toads.
You really did summarize how I feel about the Chris Pratt situation. Martinet knows his Mario voice more than anyone and he could voice act for Paarthurnax who has a LOT of voice lines and they all came out so wonderfully, he could have found something for this.
Oh no the bots are starting to steal pfps

Now it's fixed.
I bet Chris Pratt has never played a Mario game in his life. What else explains that long pause before he said "KOOPAS". He clearly had to take a moment to remember what the turtle enemies were called.
a whole ass qte secuence was playing on his head while saying it
Damn that joke at the end with Chris taking forever to say koopas...I'm glad someone else noticed how awkward he sounded👌
Stomping...
*KOOPAS!*
And then, it turns out that you cant stomp koopas on arcade mario bros without dying.
".. stomping..... **loading.. loading..** *lagging*... Koopas!"
What an actor, he made us believe that he actually played those games (where you stop Koopas in the orginal Mario Bros. arcade then later on the Nintendo), and really wanted to play Mario his whole life. Vin Diesel & Michelle Rodriguez got some hardcore gamer competition now.
I acually said pull the other one when he belched out that bull of a line.
If it wasn't so obviously stilted I'd actually give him the benefit of the doubt because as far as I am aware the enemies are never properly introduced in the arcade game. As someone who is about a decade too young for the arcade release this would seem as something anyone would get wrong with very similar-looking enemies being called koopas for nearly 30 years.
@@SethAbercromby But you don't stomp them in that game, you hit them from beneath and kick them.
@@niquel5831 And they're not even Koopas, they're Shellcreepers. But I can let that one go since an average Mario fan might not even know they're not Koopas since they're both turtles and look similar.
@@DETahaX You could put a gun to my head but I will never call the turtles from Mario Bros. "Shellcreepers."
Could you imagine an alternate reality where they decided “Eh, I think we have enough star power for a movie about one of the most famous video game characters. Let’s just hire professional voice actors for everyone else” and everything is the same but now Mario, Peach, DK, and Cranky Kong now share a voice actor with Roy Mustang, Maka Albarn, Dio Brando, and the Joker respectively (i.e. They’re voiced by Travis Willingham, Laura Bailey, Patrick Seitz, and Mark Hamill respectively). We still have Charlie Day as Luigi, Jack Black as Bowser, etc.
Uhh they did hire professional actors who done voice acting
@@crazyfire9470 You nailed it right there. They hired ACTORS who have done voice acting, not VOICE ACTORS. Although I'm sure you didn't mean it like that ;)
seitz and bailey are pretty much gods in the voice acting scene
@@crazyfire9470 what he's saying is that they hired hollywood actors, not actual voice actors
Jack Black and Chris Pratt both have made their fair share of voice acting gigs now. It's the 4th full length movie for both, I think
Besides Chris Pratt's Mario voice, this is shaping up to be a great movie
I love how that's the consistent view for basically everyone. Everyone character is great, then there's Chris Pratt
@@ethanstyant9704 they're hating because they can't be as cool as Pratt
As long as Chris Pratt's Mario says some good lines and gives a decent performance, than we're in great hands!
I knew they were never going to do it, but a classic Brooklyn Super Show style Mario voice would have been so refreshing to hear again.
Imagine if the intro to the movies was a rendition of the super show theme sung by Chris Pratt and Charlie day.
Thing is, I'm pretty sure that's sort of what Pratt is going for? Maybe not Super Show specifically but in the vague proximity of a Brooklyn Accent? That's what it sounded like to me at least, and hopefully when we hear more lines it'll sound more like it.
@@SoupLadles same, plus apparently superviser spick is confirmed to have a actor
I think this movie trailer exceeded everyones expectations and everyone suprisingly has their voice fit (exept chris prat sounds like chris prat but im hopeful the voice gets worked on) but everything else looks awesome so far.
@hkh4 the one handed gamer I wouldn’t say remove him from the cast, just help make his Mario voice more distinct from his regular voice.
@@canman7249 Given, well, chris pratt, that may as well be synonymous with just replacing him outright as I'm not sure there's a role where he hasn't just been chris pratt playing as chris pratt playing the character.
@@Darca1n that role is Emmet from the Lego Movie
@@canman7249 that was still pretty close to most of Chris Pratt's characters which are generally ignorant and or friendly. The voice is still Chris Pratt's as well and not changed. He doesn't seem to have much range in voices and delivery.
The voice probably won't get worked on, for Animated movies a lot of the time the voice work is done first and the animation is done afterwards. Chris Pratt has probably already done all of his voice work for the film
I love what we see of Bowser, not only is he dangerous, but he treats conquering like a big game. He WANTS a good fight along the way so he can prove how tough he is.
I agree with everything said here, especially Bowser. Not only is the voice very nicely fitting for him, Jack Black NAILED his attitude, which is the best part of Bowser and why he's one of my favorite game characters of all time.

4:09 Thank you for mentioning Mario Super Show. I feel like people forget that Mario has had other actors portray him outside the games, and imo Captain Lou did a fine job. I was hoping they'd go with that kind of angle with Chris Pratt, and I had my expectations set. I can't help but feel slightly underwhelmed by what I saw. I'm sure Pratt will do an okay job, but I just feel like it could've been better.
I think the reason people are saying we need to hear more of Chris is because he didn’t have expressive lines here. A quiet “where am I?” And the the “Mushroom Kingdom, Here we come!” I do wish it was something more akin to Mario, but I’m not blowing him off just yet.
I can see that for the "where am i" but the Mushroom Kingdom line should be one of his more expressive lines in the movie and the delivery was so flat. That's just basic voice direction and Chris Pratt couldn't even follow that
@@TheWizardMus I think the line wasn’t meant to be super expressive, Mario wasn’t suppose to sound excited but more determined, but I will say the way Chris delivered that line sounded like he was a bit unsure of what to do with his voice
@@thunt02 It was probably recorded early on. Maybe even a case where they cut it from the film but still used it for the trailer.
@@coltonk.3086 yeah that’s what I was thinking, it didn’t feel like an official line in the movie, more like a line trying to find the right accent/voice

Claomed
Claomed
It seems he's never really played any of the mainline Mario games, just the original Mario Bros. cabinet game -- the one that came before SUPER Mario Bros. or the NES. (Hence why he mentions a laundromat and why he struggled to name the Koopa, which apparently was called the Shell Creeper in that game)
fixed the claomed problem

That would actually explain a lot
I like how the animations are made for nostalgia rather than some new bs. Looks good
4:35 the pause is like he’s holding back a slur and genuinely forgot what they are called outside of the slur
Mario has now and then been compared to Mickey Mouse, and for good reason. Mickey's voice wasn't messed with, maybe changed slightly to be 'less grating' in some things, but it was still his voice. Mario should have had the same treatment because his voice is just as iconic (if not more so) than Mickey's voice. "Default Human Male" voice for Mario just doesn't work. Even the Live Action Movie Mario voice would work, and there's lots of fan works/animations who have voiced Mario in things, and they all work to; because they keep the essence of Mario's character and energy.
Main difference it's that Mickes actually had a voice and speaken role for years Mario just had like 10 lines of voice and preety much just sound effects
They might have to delay the (English) release of the movie, but just like with sonic’s model, if enough fans express distaste with the voice, it might actually convince them to get someone else to do the voice work… then again, this isn’t SEGA or Paramount. You would hope Nintendo would care enough about making this a success that they’d interfere and do something about it. But unfortunately I think we’re stuck with ‘generic male you’ve heard in a bunch of other movies’ for this… I’ll put my hopes on a pirated fan release later on where someone who can do a decent Mario voice has put in actual effort and dubbed over all of his lines
@@VikTimmy I don’t think Chris Pratt’s voice is even comparable to ugly Sonic, though. Like, they’re not even in the same ballpark. No way they’d delay the movie just for that.
Mickey Mouse isn't a Japanese character, but an American caricature that exists solely to be laughed at. America couldn't even handle authentic South African aceent in Blood Diamond, because when they hear cultural diversion, their training to take it like Apu or Borat kicks in and they just mock the whole character, completely cutting off any emotional connectivity.
That's not something Japan or those European countries usually DO, and nntendo doesn't want that for Mario. USA does that because they also grow up to see foreign nationals as lesser, cartoonish, and subject to abuse like the US meddling and propaganda in Rwanda that is common knowledge in France. Max gilalrdi has this thing figured out in his not my apu -video, but most Americans CAN'T take a cartoonish voice seriously because they can't take FOREIGN PEOPLE seriously.
@@VikTimmy I think the Sonic movie redesign taught people the wrong lessons. Now we have people left and right demanding a delay to fix every little detail they don't like in a movie/game trailer while using the Sonic movie as their prime example.
Finally a video game movie that follows the source material and it has the penguins as a kingdom
Also, Bowser is the perfect animated role for Jack Black
I mean, animated as in animated movie? Or animated medium?
@@llmkursk8254 Doesn't matter, the character and actor fit together well no matter what media
People seem to constantly forget that the Teen Titan Go writers aren't bad, they just actively and intentionally go for the most juvenile and baseline comedy to keep children, their actual target audience, engaged.
There's a reason that they have CN Kids in vice grip.
There's a reason that they actually make some insanely good episodes in general metrics every now and then (The episodes about The Night Begins to Shine especially show this, the song was originally meant to be just a throwaway gag until they saw how much people liked it)
They can be "good", they just don't want or feel a need to, which is more frustrating imo.
Even if they couldn't, Nintendo 100% had enough creative control to steer that ship away from the exact type of content we all joked this movie would be filled with.
Plus they made the original teen titans as well
While I can agree with this I guess, having CN Kids in a "vice grip" isn't that much of an accomplishment, if only due to how mismanaged CN as a whole (still) seems to be.
Weirdly enough, Teen Titan Go is exactly like the Family Guy in the modern day, except going in the completely opposite direction
Teen Titans Go to the Movies also I heard was pretty good so it seems it will meet minimum requirements at the very least - my main takeaway mostly from the teaser (not really much of a trailer) IMO is that it looks visually stunning and the premise may be less of a parody as expected.
@@minhkhangtran6948 how so?
So from what I've heard, apparently this movie combines every iteration of Mario's design, even the ones Nintendo isn't too keen on like the chunky face from the cartoon or the collar from the live action movie.
I think in the poster there was a picture in one of the shops that was the original Mario Movie poster.
The chunky face is to help it express better. Bowser and Luigi have chunkier faces as well
Well, the good thing is that that old video of Chris saying "Its a me. A Mario." will be exactly how it'll sound in the movie.
That vid showed up after I watched the trailer, yeah Im about as please as you are
I really hope Chris' performance in the trailer is a Sonic movie style bait-and-switch.
This movie has SO much potential, it's gonna hurt so bad if it isn't...
When I heard how long it took for chris to think of what you stomped on in a mario game I pretty much knew what to expect from his performance
Eh, it was a live feed, right? I can't blame him, we're all kinda idiots.

No... All Directs are pre-recorded THEN premiered live.
Which is very telling on Chris Pratt's end.
@@MirthMouser That explains being able to make the trailer 2x speed and seeing stuff before most other people in the world
Didn't he pause for like a second? Pratt looked exhausted in that video interview honestly.
Bowser HAS to have a jazzy villain song, and if they add his world's overworld theme from Super Mario 3D World, it will be the best villain song ever
Kevin Michael Richardson is literally my favorite VA EVER! I can’t wait to hear more of his Kamek :)
0:17 Yeah the comedy revolved around a routine "cute thing thinks its powerful but is actually pathetic" gag but... That's not the worst trope to take from. And it was kind of funny because they did actually make the penguins look kinda genuinely cool.
Strange, if Mario voiced by Chris Pratt wasn't the first thing I ever heard about this movie I wouldn't have been able to recognize him in the trailer. My biggest gripe is that I got a strong feeling it's to be an origin story, and I'm not sure Mario needs one.
I agree. I didn’t recognize Pratt in LEGO movie and that voice is very to his normal voice. People hear it because they want to hear it and are looking for it. Honestly, it sounds fine to me so far, kind of OG pre-Mario 64, though I would have liked to face heard more.
I do think it has to include at least some origin because voices include Mario’s construction boss Spike, Donkey and Cranky Kong, and the trailer showed his first reaction to the Mushroom Kingdom.
I am okay with all of this so far. Nintendo is so paranoid and maddeningly cautious that it’s hard to imagine this being bad if they went through with it. Fingers crossed.
movie mario needs one
Thank you for sharing that sound of silence cover. 10/10 work of art
like if he even just raised the pitch of his voice a little it'd be a BILLION times better than what we got.
I will say, if Chris Pratt tried putting on a voice I think people would be a hundred times more unhappy and cringe at the trailer
@@thunt02 What makes you so sure?
Honestly I would have been fine with a more Brooklyn style accent, since I would imagine it is easier to imitate, and probably sounds better for a long movie. It seems like Chris Pratt tried to incorporate that "a little bit" but not nearly enough where it's distinctive from Chris' natural voice.
Granted I do understand the guy doesn't specialize in voice acting, he works better for his live action roles. Though I do give fault that Chris praised his voice as something very unique.
@@aldar8240 hearing an actor trying to put on a higher pitched voice trying to act a bit more serious would have sounded ridiculous

Yesssss! Finally, someone who covered every pro and con of the trailer!
I agree with basically everything you said! Except I am somewhat okay with Toads having teeth and Mario having a collared shirt.
Regardless, this might be the first Illuminations film I'll see in theaters!
PS "Sonic goes to the real world, dude"
I have always had a problem with the way Illumination casts their films, in that they don’t. Find a name that is currently big or was a few years ago and as long as it’s “okay,” slap it in your film. They would rather sell you on the names than write a good script.
Luigi , Bowser and Toad have amazing voices
I'm betting Bowser is gonna sing a serande to Peach to try to woo her.
I have sat through DECADES of Mario making noises in video games but the argument is you "wouldn't want to sit though an entire movie of that". But I've already spent HOURS of my life literally doing exactly that.
Yeah, he makes noises he doesn’t really talk. It would be annoying for an hour. Your night in the game is all it is is it jumping or being hurt
I’ve been hoping this would happpen!Great video Scott!
yeah I definitely agree with a lot of the complaints you had I do honestly agree that it looks beautiful which like I was worried about considering all of illuminations previous movies like not that they're bad but they just never really wowed me in terms of graphics or story and like the voice acting seems really good and I definitely get what you're saying about the Chris Pratt not like feeling like he wants to be part of the movie but I'm sure we'll like to see as it goes along that it like develops or something or at least I hope so because if the main character in our movie is not good I very will be sad
I’m so glad someone said something about kamek, he looks and sounds amazing
As soon as you mentioned the Joppa with the eye patch I instantly knew you would talk about the lack of variety in the newer paper Mario games
I loved this. I want everyone to make videos on their thoughts of the Mario movie trailer.
The fanart showcase in this one sure is interesting. 😆
That last gag is such a good point-I would love to see some of terminal list Chris Pratt animated as Mario 🤣
It's been a while since I watched a video of yours so that new little dancing animation pleasantly surprised me.
Slightly off-topic: Toad’s voice actor, Keegan Michael-Key, also voiced Benjamin Giraud in the audio series “Hunt the Truth” which was meant as promotional material for Halo 5: Guardians. Now I can’t stop imagining Toad being hunted down by the Office of Naval Intelligence.
3:58 YES! THANK YOU! I love both Charles and Mario's voice in the Super Show. I would've been find in either, but Chris Pratt just is... meh...
For anyone wondering, 00:52 is an artist/developer called CryZENx. They toy around in Unreal and have been remaking games like Ocarina of Time from pretty much the ground up. I think your snide comment about being uncanny is a little unwarranted. There are far worse examples out there coming out of major studios.
4:22 Loved that that was the first thing I thought about when hearing Mario’s voice
I'm very excited with this trailer, I really hope the rest of the trailers that will show more world elements and Luigi and Peach.
So, about the teeth...
I think it makes the characters more expressive since, if you tried to use game accurate models, the lip-syncing would look weird after a while.
Also, Charles' old age might mean he can't do the Mario voice for a long period of time, so they cast Mario to someone else.
It’s too bad they didn’t cast someone who might actually be good
Chris Pratt is generic man and his voices just meld together
If they wanted someone other than Charles fir whatever reason then they should have gotten someone with either an Italian or Brooklyn accent
Yeah but they could have hired a voice actor instead of paying for Chris Pratt to be in the movie
Like, for crying out loud, if they wanted "star appeal" they could have gone with Mark Hamill instead, because at least he can voice act! He's got range, Chris Pratt doesn't.
Charles literally voiced Magenta in the DragonBall Super Hero movie.
My favorite tweet about the Mario voice: "It sounds like someone whispered in a New York accent to a glass of water and then he drank it."
Random thing, but I always like watching your little animation at the end where you synched your pointy fingers to Rhythm Heaven. ^^
I don’t know man, Im kinda thinking that Cris Pratt will do a good job as Mario.
If he can hold that accent that we see him do at the end of the trailer, but then just, throughout the entire movie. I would be happy with it.
I also kind of like how he’s, almost doing a Brooklyn/Italian accent instead of just an ordinary, boring Italian one.
Idk, all I’m saying is that I have hopes that he will sound OK when the next trailer comes out.
I liked it, great asthetics, great animation, had no issue with Pratt's voice, as long as the acting is solid, couldn't care less
Yeah same
I feel like Chris’s “where am I line” is good. It shows the right tone. The mushroom kingdom here we come sounds jarring in its current state and doesn’t reflect the tone I’d expect but we are clearly lacking context as we’re missing a scene in between, though honestly I think if it was mushroom kingdom here we go, It would feel at least 25% more Mario esque
2:36 Okay, I'll agree, it's off. But I think it'll work, Miyamoto chose him for a reason, Mario was originally/had a Brooklyn accent and Christ Pratt has a hint of that. Do remember this is most likely an origin story since Mario looks like he has no idea where he is, hence being from Brooklyn or perhaps New Donk City (or somewhere else). By the end of the film/throughout the story, I think he'll adopt a more Italian accent. Don't judge so quickly. So yes, we do have to hear more.
I don't think you can adopt an italian accent like that
miyamoto didn't choose him for a reason, the high executives at nintendo controlling where the money goes said this guy right here, people will watch him just for being in the movie. if miyamoto had his way he would hire just really good voice actors not brand name hollywood stars to attract more viewers. their aim isn't gamers anymore it's everything. Nintendo wants to be more than a brand name for a videogame company. They wanna be disney, theme parks, merch, the name Mario the same power as Micky Mouse
I really hope they're pulling a Sonic Movie with Chris Pratt's voice
Dude…it looks alright! The Toad and Kamek are fantastic
Jack black did one of the hardest thing for big actors. When I heard it, I wouldn't have known it was jack black if I didn't know already. That's the biggest thing for animation.
No one looked like they wanted to be in Love and Thunder.
Christian Bale. He brought his a-game and that's why it looked so off compared with the rest of the cast
I was genuinely surprised by how much I loved the trailer. Like I was really scared due to everything listed (other than a few of the VA) but like. So far, everything looks like just a good Mario movie. Still won't replace the nightmare infested part of my heart the original terrible movie has. God I hate how much I love about it
I liked the bit at the end with the fanart section
Yeah, his little pause with the stomping bit made me go " Chris.. Did you really play? "
I remember that clip where Chris Pratt said "It's-a me, a-Mario... That's not the voice!" But it's 100% the voice but without a lazy attempt (if it can even be called an attempt) at an Italian accent!
Jack Black plays Bowser perfectly, adding a healthy amount of growling and a ton of enthusiasm.
Keegan plays Toad wonderfully, breathing some genuine comedy long lost to the character.
Chris Pratt plays Mario.
Charlie Day plays Luigi with genuine care for the character, even if it's just a short clip of screaming.
I'm going to hope for the best with this one. Good stuff so far, love that they brought back the Penguins from Mario 64.
I like it when Bowser is played straight.
Chris Pratt really had to think what the heck Bowsers minions are called during the direct
If we can bully a company into re-designing Sonic we can bully them into changing Mario's voice
I think the thing that sells kamek so well is the hunchback he’s got going, Ngl.
If they show even a second of a live action ad executive I will walk out of the theater
Talking about Bowser’s animation, they did a great job capturing Black’s facial movements because I really thought I could see him in Bowser.
I have a hunch that they recorded him reading his lines and based the animation off of that.
As for Pratt, I actually like his voice. I keep perpetuating that we need to hear more because his accent isn’t obvious enough to sell it for most people it seems.
I don’t want it to leave a bad first impression on everyone and then months later it turns out it’s really good but everyone hates it because they don’t want to feel like they were wrong about him the first time.
In other words, I hope people keep an open mind and don’t judge his voice for the next 10 months based on the 5 seconds we heard.
Chris pratt should have voice acted paper Mario so his voice fitted his character
You pretty much got the whole thing down. It looks great
it's been forever since the last time i remember a side of salt video. epic.
I’ll wait to hear more from Chris Pratt’s vocal time in the next trailer, because at this point I worry that he got burnt out from rapid fire movies left and right. Otherwise, Jack totally nailed his role by shelving the majority of his comedy for something a bit more serious.
For real tho, Chris Pratt needs a vacation to get his mojo back.
I totally agree with all the points you made here, especially about casting Chris Pratt as Mario, I just don't think he's a good fit for the role. I think casting a Lou Albano type voice would have been a better fit, and a unique choice for a main character in an animated film. I know Vinny from Vinesauce does a good Captain Lou impression, I'd love to hear him dub over a few scenes once the movie's out.
Charles would also have to do Luigi if you wanted him to voice Mario and iirc he can’t do the voice for long periods (that may just be wario's voice I forget)
You covered literally everything I felt about the trailer, and you worded it and added comparisons exactly as I did.
That Chris Pratt's voice isn't a deal breaker, but certainly isn't up to the hype he gave it; Charles Martinet has enough range between Mario and Paarthurnax to give a more gritty and realistic voice to him; how the trend of big name actors doing lead voices started with Aladdin and how scummy Disney was for doing that; Kamek felt great and in-character; Jack Black's Bowser was always in the spotlight as the one to steal the show; Luigi's few screams were great but left us wanting more; Bowser simply looks and feels phenomenal; and the other characters having great deliveries, even Toad, just made Mario's feel weak in comparison.
I couldn't have described it any better than this video here, so thank you for voicing my exact feelings so eloquently.
Don't worry, I'm sure that his Garfield voice will definitely be nailed perfectly! (Read in a sarcastic tone)
I actually looks fairly hype tbh! I’m impressed! (I’m pretty sure everyone’s had the same reaction lol
You know that um… the trend of “name you know” for animated films arguably _started_ with Robin Williams, right? Not to diss Robin - he was _literally perfect_ as the genie and fought Disney on hyping up his inclusion too much, even to the point of insisting the genie not be too big on the film posters (which Disney then ignored, and that’s why he didn’t return for any of the sequels). But from _Disney’s_ perspective, “name you know” was literally the reason they hired him, rather than any Disney exes going “oh hey, this Robin Williams audition is fantastic and gels perfectly with the character we’re trying to create!”.
"Shaping up to have more species variety than recent paper mario games too"
that one hurt BAD
It felt like Chris REALLY wanted to say goombas but remembered he couldn't because it's a slur in Italian and might be taken out of context in clips lol
More likely he was trying to remember what the main enemy in the arcade Mario Bros. is because that's what he was referring to. There are no goombas in that game.
I'm italian and "Goomba" isn't a slur in italian
Goombas it's a slur? What?
Dork
@@DeeperIntoTheUnknown Apparently goombah is a pejorative in the US against people of Italian descent.
I’m SO sad about Chris’ delivery oh my god 😭
Giving this project to illumination was an excellent choice was a good job.
Also, toad with teeth could actually be dubbed down given that animated characters can have retractable teeth. Don't believe me? - watch the movie "bad guys" and pay close attention to their teeth. Sometimes it's a flat linear piece, sometimes the teeth are 2 fangs, and some times it's a a bunch of sharp teeth.
I can't believe I just put more thought into a paragraph about animated teeth than I have any school assignment ever.
I always like your outro, It give me nostalgia :)
