    Well.. Considering I worked at taco bell in 1979... The meat came from a local butcher wrapped in white paper, the lettuce was indeed head lettuce that we cut up, and we had to grate the cheese. We also got the beans in 50 pound bags and had to cook them ourselves, and the only thing we got from corporate hq was the meat seasoning.

      I miss Taco Bell from BEFORE 1985! They USED to be fresh, and had GREAT food like The Bell Beefer, and ORIGINAL Taco Bell Enchirito!
      (a special corn tortilla filled with ground beef (Cooked FRESH from raw ground beef at EACH store!), pinto beans (FRESH picked & cooked at EACH store!
      Not processed dehydrated shit!), and onions (Whole FRESH onions peeled and diced at EACH store, same with tomatoes, and lettuce!), and topped with red
      sauce, cheese (FRESH grated at EACH store, from a 50# block!), and olives (HAND sliced into 3 pieces!). AND REAL Sour Cream, not the processed "Sour
      Cream SAUCE" served for the last 20 years or so! Don't believe me? Check the Taco Bell website, and read the INGREDIENTS in the Sour Cream!!!!!! Since
      when does Sour Cream have INGREDIENTS??????? FRESH Cultured Cream is ALL it should say!!!! #TheGoodOLDDays!

    What happened to the Taco Bell food you ask? They were significantly more expensive than the burger chains and were losing money. I used to beg my mom to take me to Taco Bell, but usually she wouldn't because she said it was too expensive. They were actually the first fast food chain to introduce a value menu. Lower prices meant they had to cut back on quality unfortunately.

    what is gasoline rationing?

    • @robatsea2009
      @robatsea2009  9 лет назад +78

      Twice during the 1970s - first in 1973 and then again in 1979 - there was an oil crisis (a shortage of availability) caused by global events. In the instance of 1979 much of it involved events taking place in Iran and Iraq, both huge oil producing / exporting countries. What it meant for people in North America was gasoline would be tougher to buy for your car, and some gas stations would run out. Rationing was a method of trying to keep things fair (some U.S. states had plans where if your license plate ended in an odd number you could buy gas on certain days, and if ended in an even number you could buy gas on other days) so that there wouldn't be long, long lineups of vehicles waiting for fuel - which had happened during the 1973 oil crisis.

    • @kylep120
      @kylep120 9 лет назад +8

      robatsea2009 the cause of the gas lines were from price controls enforced by government. Because oil was more expensive to obtain due to middle east conflicts gas companies would have to raise their prices on gas to meet the demands, but since government prohibited how much they can raise their prices it took away their incentive to make gas available resulting in an artificial shortage caused by government. The exact same thing happened in 2012 during the hurricane in New York and New Jersey. Both of their governors put in place price controls for gas. Resulting in gas companies having less incentive to supply gas in a difficult area to meet demand.

    • @andysmith5818

      +robatsea2009 Hah hah!! I had forgotten about the odd/even license plate number thing. Friends would switch their plates all around just for an hour or so (usually longer!) so that they could get gas two days in a row. I thought that was a waste of time because you could always get in the next day. But my world history is actually very poor for the Carter years---I must have purposely skipped it over or something because I thought he was a real jerk of a president. Remember the whole, "I'll wear a sweater and not a tie in the Oval Office" thing that he used to say? Well a book came out about him and he was one big, bumbling phony-baloney. He had a suitcase that was empty----EMPTY!!---and he would walk out of Marine One or whatever and carry it into the White House as if he was showing the world he could carry his own things. But then as soon as he was out of camera range, he tossed the empty bag to any Secret Service agent and he just walked away. Never said thank you---just went upstairs to the residence. Then he'd come back out again, carrying that same empty bag just to show for the cameras...Politicians are so slimy.

    taco bell, kfc and pizza hut all have something in common besides being owned by yum brands- they used to use better quality food than they do nowadays.
    taco bell has been disgusting for a good 15+ years as yum brands has been systematically lowering the quality of their food to see if customers will be satisfied with less. sadly, they seem to be plenty satisfied with the sludge they (yum brands) peddle.

      filthy sanchez if it's from the animal it's supposed to be than I'm ok with eating low quality since it somehow tastes good but if it's the wrong animal or a mix of different wrong animals than that's disgusting.

    I worked at Taco Bell as a night mgr from 79 to 80. All the food was made fresh back then. The beef and beans were made in house, the veggies fresh cut, etc.. The enchirito was a small flour tortilla filled with beans, beef, and fresh diced onions. It was then topped with sauce and black olives. I personally liked the green sauce on mine. I remember going to a convention years ago about the newest ad campaign. It was called "take a Taco Bell vacation" I don't see any of those ads on here though.

    Oh My God! I grew up in Escondido, California. There was a Taco Bell in town that looked just like the one in this commercial, complete with the bell and mission look. Taco Bell was the best back when they cooked their own meat and beans on-site. I used to work for them in the mid-80s, when the beans were still pressure cooked twice a day.

    We still have a couple of those old Taco Bell buildings around town. They're other restaurants now. I remember one of them having the restrooms on the outside of the building. The funny thing is the one near Superstition Springs Mall seems more dated since it still has its original 1990s color scheme.
