FILM DESCRIPTION:
In this biographical drama, Selena Quintanilla (Jennifer Lopez) is born into a musical Mexican-American family in Texas. Her father, Abraham (Edward James Olmos), realizes that his young daughter is talented and begins performing with her at small venues. She finds success and falls for her guitarist, Chris Perez (Jon Seda), who draws the ire of her father. Seeking mainstream stardom, Selena begins recording an English-language album which, tragically, she would never complete.

That's almost every Chicano kid from my generation when they heard the music for the first time and they didn't understand it because it's about a life that didn't pertain to us. Myself included. I didn't like my father's music until I was about 19 years old, when I finally understood and had gone to my father's Pueblo and saw what life was like down there. At that point, you've had girlfriends/boyfriends and the Romantic songs, like the one mentioned in this scene by "Los Strwck" & "Los Pasteles Verdes" all of a sudden become so much more relatable than it did when you were a kid, listening to it while your mom was mopping the house....

I love Spanish Latino culture! Mexicans have the most beautiful spanish accents. I wish I spoke Spanish.
We get a lot of Mexican/Chilean/Columbian students in my town coming to learn English. I love their accents ❤️
