Not making this up: I've been listening to this song (yes, Molly Hatchet version) nearly daily for the past two or three weeks, and slowly learning it by ear on my guitar (I'm a beginner, hence the "slowly")...then this lesson shows up. So cool! Thanks, James.
The Allman Brothers version was so different, almost more jazzy blues. Molly Hatchet's sound was hard country rock. Not sure it could be better performed than on their 11/10/1978 - Capitol Theatre live video available on RUclips. But then that was the version I first became acquainted with. Love Danny Joe Brown's stage presence and great voice. In any case, thanks for doing this and the separate solo version. Well-explained. Great job.
I got to see Molly Hatchet 3 times and got on the bus with them for a few minutes and talked to them, before DJB died. Cool experience! They are the loudest band Ive ever seen live. They opened with Devils Canyon and the thunder at the beginning made the earth shake, and made your clothes shake on your body! They are my alltime favorite southern rock band.
Saw a New Year’s Eve show in Lakeland Florida, ‘77 ? The band opened for .38 Special and The Outlaws. OMG, DJB?, highly pissed at what he felt was a slight for having to open. They had just hit the air waves and were hotter than fire. Skynyrd had just crashed and these boys were the hottest thing going. Them and Blackfoot, if I’m not mixing the timing up. Always will be grateful I was able to catch that show.
Ehh it sounds a Little bit like it. LoL Damn fine as usual and you’ve nailed the tone. I listen through a proper old stereo and it sounds killer. Now I just have to go get a Goldtop with P90’s. Nice shirt 🤙🤙
Great lesson, as usual. I do one thing slightly different: Instead of playing the odd A chord after the C to Bb, I play the exact same "hendrix" chord, but starting at the 11th fret. In other words, I move the "hendrix" chord up to make it an A voicing. Try it out, let me know what you think.
Awesome cover and demo of this classic ABB song played by Molly Hatchet! Man I love the tones your getting from those P-90's in your Goldtop LP! Are those the original P-90's or have you added some aftermarket PAF P-90? Thanks for taking the time to do a lesson for everyone! 😎😜🎸💪👍
“Those that can, do! Those that can’t, …..” Old school guitar teaches cringe when they see someone play guitar using their thumb. I say “there’s five fingers on that hand and I’m gonna use em all even if 1 is a thumb!!!” If it sounds good, do it!
My god😂 not even close This is a roadhouse version of a very jazzy 3/4 song by the Allman brothers that was made by Gregg to have a long vamp for his brother to model jam too Look up Dreams I’ll never see Live at Fillmore West and you will understand the sonic journey this song was made for
@@jamesjames9275 ha ha. I got a glimpse once on the old PT channel and I now forgot what song, and there’s too many songs to go through to go looking for it again! 😉

Happens to me often lol.
Something weird is going on.
Saw Molly Hatchett with AC/DC in Houston in late 1979. Molly opened, and rocked it up, as their southern style really grooved!
I saw them with AC/DC the same year in Charlotte. Great show
I was at that Houston show.

Love this solo always have. Great job
Yet another GREAT lesson
Awesome tutorial JJ! I’ve always wanted to learn this song! Thank You!
Your Danny Joe growl made me chuckle. Not bad bro!0
Absolutely love it thank you 🤘🤘
I have to say that, IMHO, this version is an improvement on the original which I think is too slow. MH did a wonderful job with this one.
Molly Hatchet’s version was actually more of a cover of the Buddy Miles arrangement.
@@jamesjames9275 I didn't know that!
Great sound

Amazing... Thanks to you my fellow guitar slinger.,.. Well Done!

Spot on man, awesome stuff 👏 Thanks Jimmy
Such a great lesson. Thank you
Thank you very much! Just what i was looking for
Agreed, that premature ending actually is pretty cool
Much appreciated James!
Another great song and lesson, thanks:)

You have a helluva God-Given Gift
To the hardest part I'm having is that rhythm part where you have a bar on the 7th fret follow by a hammer onthe 9th. Damn!
It's a Miles tune - G Allman wrote the lyrics.
Molly Hatch did a magnificent job of co-mingling the two versions.
Cool didn't have the chord with the open g in my bag , couldn't do it with the bar , sometimes the thumb is helpful 😀
Great jam tune. Is your P90 goldtop a standard or classic, 50s or 60s neck? Thanks
Classic, although the neck isn't as slim as other Classics I've played.
another song with a pick scratch that i luv!
Thank You !!! nice lesson
How you doing James? So many great lessons/ songs. Thanks for the help, teacher, lol. Have a good one.
I’m great. I hope you are, too.
thank you
Like the molly hatchet version much more, grew up with hatchtmusic. Btw you use goldtop p90 like dave hlubek
AWWWEE YEAAA...😂😂😂😂😂XOXOX ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤...
Sweet.
Great song. 👍
Are you only doing lesson now?
Thx
So, who DOES play that opening riff? Hlubek, Holland, or Roland? I can't keep them straight.
Any idea what the harmonics are?
12th fret D string- then 7th fret D-G-D strings

Is the first chord a D suspended or just part of a G chord?
A suspended D.
ill say it…referin to tha allmanz version…hatchetz version iz betta…in this instance
Just compared this to the Allman Brothers version this is so much better I don't know what you're talking about...
I'm talking about my opinion. You can google what that word means.

How come we never see your face?
Probably because I never show it on camera.

Because he is in the witness protection program. 😹. He really is Banksy the artist!
