      Shannon Gasparatto - You can say that but women all take vastly more taxes than men while men pay the vast majority of taxes. So, while you can CLAIM you "don't need no man" you are actually marrying the government while men in general still fill that role.
      Men can get by w/out women. Though it may be more lonely and less fulfilling it can actually be done.
      Women cannot get by without men. No matter what you may claim your actions (by taking advantage of programs that are only granted to women like maternity leave, medical insurance etc etc) your actions speak louder than your rhetoric.
      Personally I think we (as humans) do much better when we work together but in the meantime, you can't claim you are getting by without men while you take the products of our labor through government handouts and take all the other benefits of living in a society/culture built and maintained by men. I have no problem at all with you living the way you claim to want you just aren't actually doing it and neither is any female in any modern country.

      When an Amish woman marries an Amish man she becomes his property. All or almost all Amish husbands see their wives as burdens and one of them is the Amish women's teeth (as all or almost all women start to loose their teeth as soon as they start having children). So soon after marriage Amish husbands take their wives to an Amish and make their wives have all their teeth removed at once and use dentures so the wives don't cost the husbands that much money to maintain.

    I Love Charlotte's willingness to adapt was Amazing. She did so with such an open heart. In fact they all seemed quite willing to walk away with something positive. Only one of the girls had a very unpleasant experience because of her prideful, insecure way & she was very negative about everything. I didn't enjoy watching her at all. I mean it was only a month or so of her life, she should have tried harder to be more respectful & grateful for the experience these people gave in opening their homes to share their way of life.

    I think us as women have been kinda lied to. Being a house wife or a mother is probably the most rewarding thing you could ever do. I'm one & My husband works. I never feel like I'm missing out on anything & I truly love doing the role I feel like I should be doing. That's not to say that women can also have a career if they choose. I'm all for women having a choice & if she wants to work instead then that's great too. I just think that being a caregiver is more personally rewarding in my opinion.

    • @christinebroeze1004
      @christinebroeze1004 4 года назад +19

      Julie, you are very correct. I know, that going through the women’s lib, has helped those of us that would like a career. Bottom line, when both parents work, our children suffer. I also agree that being a mother and caregiver, provides the children with security. Like so much in our world today things I think sometimes has gone too far, and we have lost the best in life. I watch families with young children, parents are on their cell phones and the children are not receiving any attention or given family time... this is the way, we have taken away from our children the ability to even socialize with others in person,everything is done on a cell phone.

    • @cr5951
      @cr5951 4 года назад +11

      It is, but the issue comes with having choice. I would be the worst house wife in the world. I can't physically have children so where would my life be in a community that centers around family. I'd be that weird spinster who lives alone that people call a witch. It's rewarding for women to find value in being a homemaker. the issue arises when you want to step outside that role and you are shunned for it.

      The best part of being Amish, in my opinion, is the community. Adopting the way they dress, work, act, pray, etc isn’t super helpful when your on your own, because the whole reason they do those things, other than for God, is to benefit one another. It’s of course super important to have a good relationship with God, but life is lonely without other people. I used to always want to be Amish, because I wanted to be part of a community like that. It would also be so nice to have a husband who was raised to view raising children as equally important as working outside the home. In my opinion, raising children is the most important job. You’re literally shaping a future society. I think our society is so bad because most women have to juggle working and raising kids. Most moms only spend a few hours a day with their kids. It’s pretty hard to create good human beings when you only spend a few hours with them, and you are already dead tired from work when you do. Sorry, I went completely off topic haha. 😂

    I have a Pentecostal mother full of the Holy Ghost and she has been so strict in so many ways my whole life. She raised 10 of us and tried to keep us in the Assembly of God Church and for sure kept us covered under her prayers. She has faith that is so strong that healing for me has always been a piece of cake. I submit to my Mom and she has really caused me to be blessed. But I have strong faith in God and His word too. But when Mom prays at least for me I have instant healing which is so awesome. I had a back injury associated with a motor cycle wreck when I was younger which showed up years later.I was in so much pain an ambulance was called to pick me up and take me to the emergency room. It was Sunday and no Doctor was there that day and I was told I would have to come back the next day. I had already ask my Mom to pray but she was afraid for me and wanted me to go to the emergency room. But I knew the power of her prayers and had experienced it many times and knew the God in her could and would heal me. So she said I will pray for you. She started to pray and went into speaking in tongues praying it the Spirit and in less than a few minutes I was in no pain walking out the door to the car to go home. 30 years have gone bye and I am still doing fine. Oh you young ladies are very special and lovely ladies. And in all Churches and in all faiths there are difficulties and things that are hard to understand. I for one have had those difficulties over different Church beliefs. Hard to understand and sometimes time and prayer is all that can help. We don't always get our way and we do not know what is best for us most of the time especially concerning what God would want us to do. Be patient and don't make fast decisions especially concerning faith and Church and religion. We in some ways are like a simple young tree which is tender and easily bends and sways in the wind. But as we grow older we become like the old oak tree and unable to bend. Ps 1: 1-6 Tells us what God can make of us if we will harking unto the voice and the word of the Lord. God is ever the same and unchanging. He says I change not therefore you sons of men are not destroyed. God Bless you Ladies and young men.

    I SO enjoyed this series. It's hit me hard and deep what we've sacrificed in leaving behind a simple agrarian life. I feel strong nostalgia for a life emerged in community and spent in enjoyable farm labor. And I also see that to stay "simple" means to also give up a lot of what modernity has to offer. I aim to integrate both into my life.

    • @anon1257
      @anon1257 9 лет назад +27

      Overpopulation is a problem, but an even BIGGER problem is that we are over populated with lazy, stupid and non productive parasites in society. It sounds cruel, I know, but we are quickly reaching the point where we simply won't have most of the luxuries we have now. Like our govt feeding generation after generation so they can make more kids who do NOTHING, except fill up our prisons.
      The good thing about the amish is that even though they have large families, they usually wind up sustaining themselves so as not to be a burden. To some extent, this even includes the environment. I doubt due to their simple living, that they take more.then they give.

    I grew up in the 60's, 70's, and 80's. Before cell phones, computers, video games, and many other things. When you've never had these things, you dont miss them. We used a payphone to call someone while outside. We read books, or just watched T.V. Three channels. Before cable. As a child we rode bikes, skateboards, and roller skates. We played games. I think the Amish still get to enjoy life without the added distractions of technology. There was really a freedom in that. Sometimes more gadgets, and more money can be a hindrance, not a blessing. There are pros, and cons, but I think more cons, i.m.o. Material things are a never ending vortex. The more you get, the more you want. I guess I'm getting old, and just care less about things, and more about loved ones.

Their work ethic and lifestyle is kind of fascinating to see from the outside, but thanks to these videos, I now have more of an understanding of them on the inside of their communities. I feel like just learning a little more about them (and about people who aren't like me) makes me more understanding.

      There has to be limits and boundaries. Some may seem silly to us. But if you're going to relax the rules - where does it stop? I understand their reasons for rejecting the outside world. And I understand each sect's reasons for the boundaries the have. At the end of life I just want to have myself ready for God. I'm curious though, and somewhat scared, - who is right? Are the Schwartzentrubers correct? New Order? Mennonites? Catholics? Non denominational?

    I just finished up this 6 part series. It's been thought provoking to have a view of the Amish.
    I have watched a series on American TV called, BREAKING AMISH. Honestly I don't know why I watch it. The ex Amish in this series have the most foul mouths I have ever heard. The situations they find themselves in, one has to wonder if it is truthful or a lie made up for ratings.
    This series seems much more believable, and from the heart.
    I'm looking forward to your other videos. I see some interesting videos dealing with historical fact that I will be delighted to view.
    I've subscribed to your page and two thumbs up on this series.

      The foul language is unfortunately a mainstay in American culture. I don't approve of it. Its hard to get away from. Ever listen to Rap music. it's the most common source of foul language and promoting violence. And yes, Breaking Amish was a scripted reality show. Not true to the Amish culture that was portrait in this series.

    I went through a period of my life when I was young and naive where I became very attracted to a simple way of life and became increasingly disgusted with consumer culture. It got to the point where I could not walk into a shopping mall because I would become nauseous, enraged, depressed, terribly fearful. I see these Amish women having the same reaction and I completely understand it. I am envious that they had the upbringing and support to trust this feeling and the deep spiritual truth surrounding it. Myself I felt guilty and ashamed for being "weird" and eventually just forgot my idealistic longings and desensitized myself to the horrors of our insane, out of control culture. I don't see any alternative, any real way to fight back or swim against the current, or rather I lack the strength and clarity of vision to do so. I've been on RUclips for 6 hours straight.

      Adam, I feel exactly the same. I left the city life and moved to a farm with my boyfriend. The society and humanity in general makes me nauseous. It is even worse for us because we are ethical vegans, and we see animal cruelty and the normality of it everywhere. The consumerism, selfishness, emptiness and narcism of most humans is totally sickening. We live a simple life with our rescued animals, a way from neighbors and to mix with society as little possible.

They may shun someone...but they see it as an act of love to prevent that person from going in a direction they believe may hurt the person they love. Also, if the person who is not in adherence to their rules is not shunned, likely they will lead others away from the stipulations they live with. I assure you...they love the person they shun.

    This series has made me start to become interested in studying the bible. I've never known much about the Amish, and now that I see why they live their lives the way they do, I have definitely become interested in possibly joining the Amish. Although several people only see it as traditional and not biblical, I see it as both. It is traditional, but they are interpreting the bible without changing anything. Nowadays, we like to interpret the bible so that it fits what we want. I understand why the Amish live the way they do and this series has helped me to follow a faith.
