Unfortunately I think a lot of people do see you guys as mythical creatures. I lived in Germany for 7 years and I saw it all the time. Every holiday when you could wear costumes, you saw people dressed as Native Americans alongside people dressed as unicorns/monsters/mythical creatures. There is a series of extremely famous novels about native Americans which was made into a TV show. The author was German and had never even been to North America. At craft fairs there were always people selling native American jewelry, but some of them were obviously gypsies pretending to be native Americans. Yeah, I've seen all those things.

As a West Virginian I love it when people make fun of the state. We have a lot to make fun of. But that felt gross. Every holiday when you could wear costumes, you saw people dressed as Native Americans alongside people dressed as unicorns/monsters/mythical creatures. There is a series of extremely famous novels about native Americans which was made into a TV show. The author was German and had never even been to North America.
At craft fairs there were always people selling native American jewelry, but some of them were obviously gypsies pretending to be native Americans. Yeah, I've seen all those things.
