In todays video we watched the Valencia Marathon 2023 which brought back memories to this time last year where I ran my worst marathon to date. Looks like the favourite, Joshua Cheptegei also had a bad race. If you enjoy the video please leave a like and consider subscribing for more running related content.

the trick with the Valencia start is it is so competitive, even though the wave is quite small, it is super compressed and very difficult to move forwards or backwards. Best tip is to accept that your first 5k could be a bit slower than goal pace, actually not a bad thing.
I found it the opposite... there were so many fast runners i got carried away! Definitely better to start a little slower though thats for sure!
@@BenIsRunning that is what I meant by forward or backward. My pace last year was about 4 seconds per k slower than goal - no big deal. I bumped into two clubmates at 5k who's goal was a few min quicker. Even they were fine in the end.
Whereas you got on the fast train, I think a similar thing happened to Brady from IRP.
Good to see Bekele back in his game with the new sponsor
Yeah, 2:04 is some time! Would win a lot of marathons globally but just not Valencia, what a race
This guy ( Bekele ) must be the biggest inspiration to any older runner Fullstop
Bekele is 41 years old amazing. The goat 🐐 of distance running
Valencia was brilliant on Sunday, I couldn't have asked for a better city to run my first ever marathon! Just missed out on the sub-3:30 goal but that gives me something to aim for in 2024 now! 👍🏻
Nice work! Back in 2024?
You saying “28min 10K” really gave me perspective for just how insane these paces are
Yeah those guys are unbelievable! I’d only be able to keep up for 2/3k at that pace
As a beginner ultra runner with a few races under my belt, I’m so glad I found your channel. Subscribed at a good time, now that it’s Vlogmas!
Thanks for following along! Won’t find me doing any ultras, marathons are far enough for now :)
You're better off following a proper runner and not a scam artist
Enjoying these daily vlogs, way to keep pumping them out!
Glad you like them! More to come :)
Nice touch putting the throw back in there
Thanks :)
Starting to become a routine to watch the daily vid before going to bed :)
Nice one, thanks for following along
Hey Ben, you are slowly turning into the ""Serious Runner" and i perhaps that is a good thing. Cheers!
Nice vlog Benji! Will we get a kush vlog aswell?
More kush, noted 🤪
Respect to Daniel Do Nascimento for his reaction to Cheptegai finishing just behind him.
100%, was expecting a slightly better performance from him to be honest after his gutsy previous attempt
@@BenIsRunning - when I step up to the marathon I will also target 2:09 😂
BenIsProbablyNotRunningRightNow
Currently having a cuppa tea, correct
Hey Ben, didnt think ive been following you for more than a year, madness, question for you though, how can you get stomach cramps from running to fast? i thought that would come down to nutrition, no ?
It was mainly an overexertion thing for me! Hr to high, gut gets starved of oxygen something like that? I knew it wasn’t a fueling issue because I’d practiced it throughout my training :)
@@BenIsRunning ahhh ok, you know best 👌
true valencia start is crazy i wanted to start slower than i did but was impossible 😂 the smoother race i ever did and a small pb💪
Congratulations
Congratulations
What app were you using at 3:43?
It was the Valencia tracking app
Oh, it's been a while
Is Ben now running?
Welcome back Wallace, Ben is now running
@@BenIsRunning beautiful, Wallace is injured, ITB
4:38 I tried swatting the fly off my tv lmao
😂😂😂
*run
Is it run or ran? Thought past tense was ran but I’m not the best at grammar 😂
@@BenIsRunning yeah it's run with the auxiliary verb.
@AwesomeWrench so I need to change the title? 🤣
I don't know why I get so triggered by this. It's become an incescent part of American English recently . Have ran, have went, have ate, etc. I even heard have did recently. Yes Ben, please change the title, thanks.
I wonder why you guys some how underestimate sisay lemma... Former London marathon champion and he represented Ethiopia at the Tokyo Olympics as well. Matiso was third last year in Valencia , Gabriel geay was second last year in Valencia and second in Boston, with such an elite field I wonder why someone would throw in Joshua cheptegei who was injured after world championships, a kenenisa bekele who rarely finishes marathon nowadays and a kandie who's a 2: 13 marathoner in to the conversation. The only surprise for me in that race was geay not being at the top and then bekele's amazing performance.
There’s always more excitement for an underdog story! Lemma is one of the best I was quite aware of his credentials but I still didn’t expect a 2:01 performance, incredible run. When cheptegei and Kandie nail the marathon I’m sure they’ll be pretty high up the leaderboard too, mark my words
Sure they will in the near future
Why do you say that you're a hobby runner? I mean yeah, you are not elite level, and definetely not casual.
Just curious. 😊
I was only kidding :)
@@BenIsRunning oh got it, haha thanks 😅
If 2.27 was your first ever marathon time I am really curious what your first ever half marathon time was? Surely 2.27 for a first marathon is one of the fastest debut marathon times ever ran by a non-professional runner? 🤯
2:28 was my first. As flattered as I am, there’s thousands of non elites running faster than that :) I think my first half marathon was 1:27 back in 2021
Nice man, still an insane achievement @@BenIsRunning 👏
First
Yay pineapple pizza ! Sorry had to drive my wife to city centre
The competitions was more important 😂😂
Wife comes first, got to respect that 😂
Almost as good as an excuse as the dog ate my homework
