    In todays video we watched the Valencia Marathon 2023 which brought back memories to this time last year where I ran my worst marathon to date. Looks like the favourite, Joshua Cheptegei also had a bad race. If you enjoy the video please leave a like and consider subscribing for more running related content.

    the trick with the Valencia start is it is so competitive, even though the wave is quite small, it is super compressed and very difficult to move forwards or backwards. Best tip is to accept that your first 5k could be a bit slower than goal pace, actually not a bad thing.

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  Год назад

      I found it the opposite... there were so many fast runners i got carried away! Definitely better to start a little slower though thats for sure!

    • @frauhorn
      @frauhorn Год назад

      @@BenIsRunning that is what I meant by forward or backward. My pace last year was about 4 seconds per k slower than goal - no big deal. I bumped into two clubmates at 5k who's goal was a few min quicker. Even they were fine in the end.
      Whereas you got on the fast train, I think a similar thing happened to Brady from IRP.

    Hey Ben, didnt think ive been following you for more than a year, madness, question for you though, how can you get stomach cramps from running to fast? i thought that would come down to nutrition, no ?

    • @BenIsRunning

      It was mainly an overexertion thing for me! Hr to high, gut gets starved of oxygen something like that? I knew it wasn’t a fueling issue because I’d practiced it throughout my training :)

    I wonder why you guys some how underestimate sisay lemma... Former London marathon champion and he represented Ethiopia at the Tokyo Olympics as well. Matiso was third last year in Valencia , Gabriel geay was second last year in Valencia and second in Boston, with such an elite field I wonder why someone would throw in Joshua cheptegei who was injured after world championships, a kenenisa bekele who rarely finishes marathon nowadays and a kandie who's a 2: 13 marathoner in to the conversation. The only surprise for me in that race was geay not being at the top and then bekele's amazing performance.

    • @BenIsRunning
      @BenIsRunning  Год назад +1

      There’s always more excitement for an underdog story! Lemma is one of the best I was quite aware of his credentials but I still didn’t expect a 2:01 performance, incredible run. When cheptegei and Kandie nail the marathon I’m sure they’ll be pretty high up the leaderboard too, mark my words
