His MONTROSE albums I swear every note is lovingly in place . Such a rush when I first heard this band in 1973. Tears when the fellas went their separate ways.
@@joeyhumphrey4536 why I don't know??? The whole MONTROSE project just fell into place and is epic. I'm sorry they didn't make the money they deserved. Those four guys are some of my favorites in all of music.
I saw Montrose in concert with Humble Pie and Spooky Tooth in Baltimore, Maryland in the early 70's. Humble Pie which I have always been into (Steve Marriott) were Headlining! Montrose blew everyone off the stage! They were off the hook!!!!! F'ing fantastic...........
I saw the same show at the Nassau Coliseum in NY. in 1974, and the exact same thing happened. Montrose opened the show, and tore the effing house down. Spooky Tooth followed. When it was Humble Pie's turn, people were still yelling for Montrose.
i saw the first 2 performances of montrose at winterland. They opened for 2 bands that i have no idea of who they were. After montrose the other 2 bands were irrelevant
@@williamkennedy4123 saw the same show. Hager was dressed in a white suit. Just dominated the stage. Cant remember the other band. I know I saw him with Trower opening once. Also saw him with Edgar Winters White Trash. They played the side of the arena that time. I not to good at remembering all the line ups or the years. I also get Winterland and Fillmore shows mixed up. Last time I saw Montrose he played in Santa Barbara at the now extinct Coach House for maybe 100 people. I'm guessing 97 or 98. But dont hold me to it
Guess you never heard Urban Guerilla from the 9 On a 10 Scale album , it was not only Heavier than anything Montrose recorded , it was as Heavy as anything any band pre Death Metal recorded
Even back then they were smart enough to call his name in the same sentence as Pat Matheny. He just got cold feet when it came to large audiences, and dropped off of the map. Bad Motor Scooter is still played today at every 'Biker' gathering or event in the U.S. and it's still just as relevant today as it was back then, especially because of Sammy's recognizable voice. A lot of the younger crowd ask if it was on one of Sammy's solo records or if he recorded it with Van Halen. It's Ronnie's own fault that he fell into obscurity as far as the mainstream goes.
First time I saw Trower he opened for Montrose at Winterland. I knew Montrose was headlining the venue, when I read the marquee outside and Robin Trower was on it ,, I thought hope that's not some chick piano player. Trower never played piano , but he did tear it up. It was a show I always remember
RONNIE wrote all THE GREATEST SONGS BAD MOTOR WAS A COLAB..SAM IS TO STUCK ON HIS SELF but that's rock n roll for ya Montrose was a great guitarist with a heart of GOLD and even gamma he played at his peak
I did too as a junior in high school. These guys were next level Rock and Roll to me. Went out and bought Paper Money the next day. They kicked some serious ass. Ronnie was amazing on guitar, his tone was just awesome!
Solo was soft?? U better listen to his solo stuff again!! He had "some" slightly softer hits but he had a lot of tunes like "Heavy Metal" that weren't.
For me, Ronnie Montrose was one of the greatest and most talented guitarists and musician of the world. (R.I.P.) - Since the age of 10, in the year 1966, I listen to and love Hard Rock and Classic/Blues Rock.- My absolute favorite album, the number 1 for almost 45 years is "Montrose" - "Paper money". Only Killer, no filler on this fantastic album. Love it ....till i die ! - Thanks for the vid. and also thanks to YT for a little but important piece of freedom. -
I did a big favour for a friend and wanted to pay me back. He asked me to make a wish.I told him all I really cared about was Rock n Roll. One week later I was moving in to live with Ronnie in the apt building he owned in the Tenderloin. It was just the two of us. Ronnie was in the studio with Edgar Winter. He would come home and want to know what music I played. I tried to find something that would stump Ronnie: Jazz,Classical,Country,Ravi Shankar. Ronnie could cope it all.Amazing and a prince. We ate Chinese every night.Maybe that was his secret.Actually he improvised most of the night real loud. It is hard for me to believe that Ronnie doubted his talent.
Thank you for this. Brought back a lot of memories. Ronnie was one of the reasons I started playing guitar. One of the best, and very underrated. Also my introduction to Sammy Hager. They played great straight rock and roll. RIP Ronnie!
FIL, I DO NOT KNOW WHEN SAMMY HAGAR STARTED TO PLAY GUITAR, BUT HE IS VERY GOOD AT IT, I CAN HEAR A LOT OF RONNIE IN SAMMY'S GUITAR PLAYING, COUSIN FIGEL
Mine too brother . Denver Auditorium Area . It isn't even there anymore. Sammy was climbing all over the amps and lights like he was known for back then. I was probably 13 or so. They were with Foghat on the Rock and Roll Outlaw tour. I don't even know the year but I'll never ever forget that concert. Such a rocking band. Great live..

Ronnie was your typical lead guitarist ego maniac! That was probably impossible! To work with? Especially with the band named Montrose! "Bad Motor Scooter" great album!
If we were to place this guy along other guitar player of the time, we couldn't even tell who was playing. I don't find Ronnie Montrose to be an exceptional guitar player. But he did make good jams.
What a F##king talented band, first two Montrose albums pure Gold!!!
Ronnie Montrose was one of the greatest guitar players on the planet!

I second that. rip

Wore these albums out. The Red Rocker still rocking!!!
Let’s hear it for Denny Carmassi too. Guy kills it on these songs!!!
bass is pretty good too, i'm guessing alan fitzgerald, bill church having already left, but they are really tight as a unit.
Steve Smith @ 17:00.
Most underrated guitarist of all time.
Ronnie rocked. Loved his taste and talent.
Aside from ungodly production value every little note seems to be in the right place on the studio version. It blows my mind

Montrose is one of those band you wish they had more than two album with Sammy Hagar
Agree !
They could have if Ronnie would’ve not been such an idiot
It's still my favorite work that Sammy Hagar's ever done .
This is the s***. Holy cow. That Les Paul grinding away and Sammy's terrific singing. Can't go wrong.

Agreed his tone is awesome.
I still have this broadcast on a cassette tape, live from the Record Plant they played Winterland the night before.
Got to see Ronnie play live!!! Awesome memories...
Dear people of the distant future: This was how raw HARD ROCK was made, and we liked it, a lot !
Montrose was Huge what a talent
im almost 60 and remember him as a teen. another great discovery. love the videos and sammy. !
Ronnie Montrose one of the best guitarists, for sure ,Sammy still singing today..
And amazingly, Sammy still has a great voice and can still sing better than most of the people from that time. Must be all that Mezcal. LOL
This is the best work Sammy has ever done. His solo stuff was soft. And I like Montrose better than Van Hager.
Solo was soft??
U better listen to his solo stuff again!!
He had "some" slightly softer hits but he had a lot of tunes like "Heavy Metal" that weren't.
@BigMamaJama AGREED! Ronnie CRUSHED IT! Sam was up to the TASK!!!
My brother from another mother. 👍
this is more rock'in
Saw them at Hershey Pa playing back up for Foreigner. Just knew Sammy would go far! Rock on!!

Amazing, and the lack of pedlas and effects. One interview on YT he said he used 1 big fuzzy pedal on this in the studio, but that's it.

Good stuff. It's been said, "when Ronnie gets on a power chord groove there is no stopping him" So true.
One of the best bands ever.
Shame they broke up.
Thanks for the compilation.
ahhhh, the music of my people
They were before their time,Sammy and Ronnie wrote kick ass tuneage, and Bill(the electric)Church on bass,Denny Caramasi on drums(I think).
