10 Best Airplanes to Buy in a Used Condition

  • The major things you get from buying a recent airplane instead of the older ones are the latest flight systems and avionics, but in terms of flying characteristics, airplanes haven’t changed much, if you buy let’s say a 1960 Bonanza instead of one built-in 2021, you will save over $500,000, and still get more or less the same performance, still, they are as safe ones that just left the factory. Some of the prices listed here may not exactly reflect what you'll most likely find. The prices stated here are based on the minimum I found during my research. and contacted some owners as well. You might end up paying a little bit more or less, depending on the condition of the one you found. #UsedAirplanes #AffordableAirplanes #CheapAirplanes

It's interesting that you left out the most produced(over 40,000) airplane in history the Cessna 172.

Design is so critical - the good news about buying planes in use for decades is that these machines have a real safety history - safety over decades is a good indicator - in my opinion - assuming of course proper maintenance etc. Small request: in videos please indicate how far these things go and what they can carry / fuel use etc. Thanks

MAJOR mistake. The PA-28 line is the CHEROKEE line. Originally they were all Cherokees. Then, when they introduced the tapered wing, the 150/160 hp ones became Warriors and the 180 hp versions were called Archers. The retractable gear ones are Arrows. The Dakota was the taper wing version of the 235 hp Cherokee. It was to compete with the Cessna 182. Prior to the switch to the tapered wing, the Dakota was the Charger, then the Pathfinder.

When you buy old cars or motorcycles cheap becomes expensive.
Isn't it the same with buying an old aircraft?

I can't believe that this guy is recommending the two seat Grumman otherwise known as the Yankee. I had one of these. It was considered a fun airplane.... yes it was..... fun to walk away from at the end of a flight..... Not enough power. But that was balanced by the fact that it didn't have enough wing area. Otherwise a great airplane. NOT..!!! I put it up for sale with a dealer, I wanted out. He put two prospective guys into it, probably full fuel but at least 5000' runway. A few hundred feet up and the engine gave up. I don't know why but they tried to come around. They were lucky and walked away and the insurance paid. End of what I considered a failure of Jim Bede.

As I see it , I have flown high , mid, low and even canard aircraft . The 2 problems planes have are pilots and engines . I have a few thousand hours and have never bent metal . There have been some planes that did not fly for one reason or another , my ass in far more important than a grave stone .

Ahh, all the keyboard critics who would have done a better video or whine about antiques, but I prefer a well maintained 60 year old airplane with a proven track record that doesn’t need a parachute to make up for lack of spin recovery characteristics. Comanche driver here.

@@CorsairEngines Nonsense. Everything has changed. Carbon fiber and fiber glass instead of metal and rivets. Computerized panels, sat based navigation systems, ballistic parachutes for airframes, sophisticated simulator trainers, weather products in the cockpit, ADS-B and TIS/TCAS collision avoidance in the cockpit, automated flight planning with uploads directly into the nav system, cell phones and bluetooth in the cockpit, auto-land and auto-glide, electric planes and the entire niche of SLSA, ultra-lights, and computer-guided VTOLs.
