    Thank you for this video! Very helpful, exporting a feature now and this helps. I’ve left my project in 20 minute reels. I hope that works for the sound team in LA. Best, Tom

    Awesome video! Have you ever had issues with AAF export with embedded audio files not showing up in Pro Tools? It just shows as empty clips

      Yes, I think muted clips in the timeline was the issue

    You use QT! Well I use Pro Tools 8. In fact I was lucky enough to buy version 7 with the upgrade amnesty so I own both versions 7 & 8 from the Digidesign era. 😊

    Doing a post production series similar to the one you did win pro tools but for davinci would be cool and helpful for those in davinci!

    Would be interesting to see same workflow from media composer to pro tools and back.

    Thanks for this video Thomas. One thing I'm curious about: Have you found that using embedded wipes the metadata from the production tracks? This is an issue I deal with when I receive embedded AAFs from premiere pro so I always request unembedded when dealing with a multi mic setup so I can see the information on boom/lav/plant/etc.

    Hey Tom, sorry this has nothing to do with this video’s topic, but I didn’t know how else to reach you (I couldn’t find your email address on your website). I bought the practice project from your store, but I’m having issues with the download. The download finished, but the ZIP file won’t open (it didn’t download the entire file). And now it says the maximum number of downloads has been reached. Just wondering what I should do. Thanks!

    Unfortunately, when your mixer labeled each channel on the set, Davinci no labled this information, and sound on post just receive A1 A2 A3 instead ''Mike Lav'' ''Jack Lav'' etc. Its painful when you have a bunch talents, who shoted on a different days. So maybe you have solution? Thanks

      For complex projects I would always recommend assembling the production sound using field recorder workflow or Kraken

    Hey Tom. First off, thanks for always putting out these videos they are of immense help.
    A client exported their project AAF with these exact settings on this video but when I load it into PT, I get this:
    " Could not complete your request because Assertion in "..\ ..\ FF\ Audio\ FF_AudioFile.cpp", line 1092.
    (Use the Copy button to copy this message to the clipboard.). "
    I'm on PT 12.5. Is there a workaround for this? Thanks.

      There are probably muted clips in their timeline

    • @wanglomusic
      @wanglomusic 3 месяца назад

      @@ThomasBoykin Thanks for the reply. There were no muted tracks. We tried exporting using "Linear PCM" as the codec and it worked fine. Audio files were exported to a folder instead of embedding in the AAF, but it worked.

    Hello, how are you! I have a problem right now with a current project. I’m from the sound post-production department, and the editor who is sharing the work material with us is sending the AAF file, but it's not coming with the correct metadata for the sound clips. He has tried numerous times without success. Do you have any tips or settings that you can recommend for me to tell him? Thank you very much!!!

    • @ThomasBoykin

      Look into how the audio was synched, and experiment with both embedded/referenced AAFs

    Shouldn't the start of the countdown be at 1 second after the start of the timeline and not 2

    Two pops and countdowns.. .DAMN, Daddy... spoil me. DNxHD is the best for ProTools because of bad Avid oversight. That is true. But the files are going to be HUGE. If you are on the same network and it's 1 - 10gigabits... fine. If you have to send the file via the internet, use an MP4 with whatever flavor of codec is small enough for the work. I'll convert to DNxHD on my end. It's faster than that huge download and much more reliable.
    If the audio came in at 24bits, make sure that you export at 24 bits. A lot of field audio guys will record too conservatively. If I'm applying noise reduction (in 99% of cases I will), those extra bits will help enormously. Especially if you don't like chirps in your audio.
    The only other thing I will add is to NOT... tinker with your timeline when it's out for audio post. Sometimes a quick little re-edit sneaks in and now nothing aligns in the post audio version. If you're color correcting, that's fine. But too many times, I've taken heat for "not syncing" with the final master when my work copy is perfect. I WILL call you out on that. I don't work for free.

    • @ThomasBoykin
      @ThomasBoykin  3 месяца назад

      All extremely good points! MP4 is not a viable format for sync, but if file size is an option sending an mp4 and converting to dnxhd is usually ok.

    • @fakshen1973
      @fakshen1973 3 месяца назад

      @@ThomasBoykin I've never experienced an issue with synchronization with MP4s of all durations. The AAFs and OMFs stay true. You might need to further explain yourself.
