I never thought much about Fender as a metal guy. Not long ago I realized I own like 10 Fender made products and they're all great. So, I guess I am a Fender guy.
I work in a guitar store and I am into extreme metal - after all I just feel so good playing strat, doesn't matter if it's squier or fender. There is just something about the neck and body shape that feels so good for heavy chugs. I modified my old squier strat from 3 single coils to 2 humbuckers way back and that guitar still rocks hard. And you can see some metal guys using it for some heavy stuff. It just works!
@mareksimurda5101 I want to buy a strat because of the reasons you said but I also know metal players shouldn't really be using single coil but they don't come with hums. Such a dilemma for me. I can't go the modifying route either as I'm weird about compromising the original condition.
@@tonesdad0408 Some models come with HH or HSS pickups. Or you can mod it yourself, doesn't take that long and there are some easy mod options with premade loaded pickuards or non-soldering sets.
The aluminum pick guard also acts as a shield. If it is properly grounded, will complete the cage if the rest of the interior is also shielded. Faraday cage for those that don't know what I was referring to.
My first electric guitar was a Stratocaster by Squier. It was black with a white pick guard. It was basic, but it was my first guitar I ever bought, and I got an amp and cable for $80. Then one day I sold it to set it aside for my PRS that I got as my second guitar, but was my first guitar that made me feel like I really was a player and a musician. I also have a Gibson Les Paul, and she's a complete game changer.
I got my first strat at 16. I went from SRV to metal and built my own with the HSS and killswitch (EVH). Strats hold a special place in my heart, and I will forever own them.
I would have chopped my left arm off for a Les Paul Standard... But the best guitar I have ever played was a BC Rich NJ Rich Bitch, which was my second guitar ever. It's somewhere in Greenland now.
I, like you, noticed a definite lack of noise in the Ultra 2, but I may have an idea why that is. If you remove the pickguard, you may find the cavity underneath shielded, perhaps with copper foil tape -- although I fully expect conductive paint instead. Extend the conductive material upwards far enough to have it contact the metal pickguard properly, and you have the upper part of the shielding done by the guard. I think a good shielding scheme would eliminate the residual noise that plagued the original American Ultra -- without a pickup redesign and cheaply. Maybe that's even what they did.
The switch on the V knob is sick. I like that better than having to try and push pull or whatever the entire knob. That's really actually pretty cool. Did no one actually come up with that 30 years ago? If they did i never seen it. Sound Feggin GREAT!

I did crank the mids In global but still the sound seems to stay with the amp if that makes sense, I’ll be using it live small venue
I own a Strat and a Les Paul. American pro2 and a beautiful lemon burst standard. I love the sounds of both. Les Paul through a Marshall amp is heaven. But The Strat is The most important electric guitar design of all time, Imo. No. Strat, no Steinberger, No Jackson and Ibanez Superstrat models, etc. I love modern stuff too, and I had a PRS and it was great, But Fender had a nearly perfect design in 1954, imo. Clapton, Beck, Hendrix, Malmsteen, Vaughn Brothers, Gilmour, Etc, they can't all be mistaken.
Just an observation of your picking technique, I notice when you palm mute your palm rests on the bridge much further back then mine, likely resulting in that more "open" sound. Not a dig or anything. I often need to drill down any neck pick up to get it out of my pick's way while digging into chugged notes. Failing that I always opt for 22 fret guitars since the pick ups have more distance and thus I avoid that issue. Could you delve into how you normally hold the pick? Thank you.
Grew up during the thrash BIG 4 early days but I only play extended range these days. This 'dad' guitar is giving me G.A.S. though! Might scratch those 'Confortably Numb' itches! ! ! 🤔
@@TaylorDanley to be fair his was an unboxing / first impressions video and you have a review. Honestly it's cool with me I love both your channels it just amused me
The humbucker sounded thin, lacking body and thickness - and I usually don't care too much about the pickups. I tried to play metal on an Aerodyne Japan Strat for a little while, I just couldn't get the tone I wanted from it, it always sounded thin, I even put a dimebucker in and it didn't solve it. My tech then told me it's the way Fender did the electronics. So I gave up on it, sold it, and bought a Prestige RG. For me, your Strats there sound like they have the same problem with high gain as mine did.
Metal is not a function of a guitar body shape and Strats traditionally are associated with 3 single coils this is why Metal and Strats didn’t mix, once you add a humbucker it no longer applies it will be the same as any guitar with a Humbucker (sonically). It is perfectly logical of doing any metal genre on a humbucker the shape of the guitar is irrelevant at that point.
No dive bombs on the Whammy!!??? What??? I noticed that the tuning and intonation was perfection on this guitar (compared to budget guitars) however I wouldn't help but wonder if it could take divebombing on the whammy bar. I know it's not designed for that, but it still would have been interesting.
I love when people break the mold and say to hell with conventional wisdom. Like when Country guys play Les Pauls. And when Metal guitarists play full-on traditional three single-coil Fender Strats-not Super Strats or those made by other companies. Why not? It’s a cool, legendary guitar made by the company that provided the blueprint and inspiration for all others. Who says you can’t do it. Use a noise gate. The whole ethos of rock n‘ roll is that there are no rules. Express yourself and get the sound that you like, not what everybody else likes.

Around 2:00 he says you can get, "an insanely versatile set of tones," and around 6:20, he describes his signature HSS strat style guitar as, "a jack of all trades." So I'm paraphrasing, but I think the point stands. My strat style guitar has an Omega humbucker and SSL-5 single coils and it's easily the most versatile guitar I own.

He said that? He's not wrong!
@@TaylorDanley ok I wanted to check my work, and it turns out I'm paraphrasing a little bit, but I think Misha says much the same himself. He says you can get a bunch of tones at around 2:00 and calls it a jack of all trades around 6:20.
ruclips.net/video/xRTclZeLkD8/видео.htmlsi=LJYQLozkcKkxXyfP
So even if I'm paraphrasing, I'll stand on it; it's the most versatile guitar there is, and I love my strat style HSS with a Seymour Duncan Omega humbucker in the bridge, and SSL-5's in the middle and neck positions.
Hi, i don't understand. It's an Ibanez AZ without stainless frets, less pickup options, random pickup and more expensive 🤔.
I stay with my Iba, great review by the way 👍
Really liking these guitar reviews!
Hey man! I know this is off subject, but I need OG ampero advice, I’m running through a 410 fender hot rod combo amp effects loop, seems to not have much output, any advice on making it sound better? and getting the sound “out there” better? I did crank the mids In global but still the sound seems to stay with the amp if that makes sense, I’ll be using it live small venue
awesome Did you play the two rhythm tracks or did you use a ADT
Thank you.
It pretty rare but I always thought it was cool when metal players used strats, Morgan Håkansson from Marduk is one guy I remember playing a strat.
@@pinkyellowblue007 SAME. Like if Rob Scallon can play metal on a shovel, then what’s the argument against it even? 😂
Your mix for this video is fire!!!! Does not help my need for a Fender lately.

Personally I found that to be a totally "metal" sounding clean tone! 🤘
one of Sabaton's guitar players on played a strat when I saw them.
1 humbucker...1 volume...baritone and I'm in
Grew up during the thrash BIG 4 early days but I only play extended range these days. This 'dad' guitar is giving me G.A.S. though! Might scratch those 'Confortably Numb' itches! ! ! 🤔

You and ola with the twin fender ultra videos 😂
@@Metaldad87 I’m not surprised, but also you never know when you agree to these who else will have videos the same day 🤷♂️
@@TaylorDanley to be fair his was an unboxing / first impressions video and you have a review. Honestly it's cool with me I love both your channels it just amused me
Also Ola has always liked that relicy white Strat that he has.
Got that *snap*
Cool video! I want the fender tone master pro just for the mogwai presets
Dude, you read my Mind lol. Was just browsing these \\m//

I’ve seen these Temu PIA clones it would be awesome for you to review one!
Those sound and look awesome!
@@Metalthrashingdad hey dude, thanks for coming by 💪 they’re very nice, can confirm 👌
Wasn't the firebird played on a Les Paul?
I love when people break the mold and say to hell with conventional wisdom. Like when Country guys play Les Pauls. And when Metal guitarists play full-on traditional three single-coil Fender Strats-not Super Strats or those made by other companies. Why not? It’s a cool, legendary guitar made by the company that provided the blueprint and inspiration for all others. Who says you can’t do it. Use a noise gate. The whole ethos of rock n‘ roll is that there are no rules. Express yourself and get the sound that you like, not what everybody else likes.
I fully agree with this statement. I used to play brutal death metal with a telecaster live. You know what everyone remembered about my band? "Oh you're that dude that played Death Metal on a telecaster" 😂
Dude what id give to have fender send me just one to review. Lmao. You are so frickin lucky bro. Lol
Awesome video mate. Also may I know what guitar picks do you use ?

does the ultra 2 use stainless steel frets?
Why nobody would even mention Jane's Addiction nowadays?! I don't know. Namastè.
if it had SS frets and a hardtail I'd be all in
@@KainzMusic I was a little surprised to not see ss frets since Jackson has been putting them on guitars lately, but also I’m fine with it they way they are

The clarity of a telecaster or a stratocaster can work, in the right mix. E.g.: Iron Maiden.

You do not need a Fender, you just need different, less hot pickups. Those EMGs humbuckers and their copycats simply killed dynamics in heavy music.
14:55 song name??
Keep up the good videos !!!
Good video! I've played alot of Fenders and they're alright but a little overpriced. For the money I'd rather buy a Kiesel Carvin. I like my made in the USA Kramers better and Jacksons also.
It's a Coil SPLIT!!!! Not a tap. 2 different things. But, damn you are an impressive player. I loved this video, makes this my next guitar purchase! Great Playing!!! And I don't play any metal like you do. But you show the versatility of this guitar
I m think Trevor Peres wishing this guitar
I haven't played a strat I like, and i think they are the most basic looking of all the guitars out there. But it's cool people like them so much, I just haven't been shown what the hype is about like with other guitars
Yeah the look has never really done anything for me. Don’t dislike it, don’t love it.

lol you playing that old riff at 7:21 in this tuning sounded pretty good. I'm curious if Fender asked you to demo in that tuning??? Not that that is a bad thing but im just curious.
@@Clinthopanonymous no Fender didn’t make any requests other than I compare both guitars they sent
@@Clinthopanonymous to answer your question, I played in that tuning because that’s how they came set up, and the setup was so good I didn’t want to adjust it. So I just rocked it in Eb standard
