Personal Preference or Illegal Discrimination?

  • All people of conscience can agree that legally discriminating against someone based on their skin color is morally wrong - that’s why it’s against the law. But what about private discrimination? For example, does a 501(c)(3) have a right to distribute private donations based on race? Scott Ott has the details.

    The fundamental flaw in how our society addresses racial issues is the belief that disparity of outcome always means racism. Get rid of that idiocy and you'll see most racial issues evaporate overnight.

      Sadly, there's a lot of people and organizations working very hard to promote that belief.

    I think you have all missed the point. Bill came close to getting it. It's the law that's at issue here, not the grants of money based on race and sex. Repeal the law, repeal the 1964 civil rights Act, repeal anything resembling a Hate Speech law.

      Here's the interesting irony. If you did away with all discrimination laws tomorrow, you'd find "whites only" and "blacks only" businesses open up shortly afterward. Within 6 months all the "whites only" ones will either go out of business or be destroyed by anti-racist activists. But the "blacks only" ones will be open for generations and ultimately become institutions within the black community. Because we all know who the real racists are.

    I am in complete agreement that private money may be spent any way that private people want to spend it. My only complaint about this video is the assertion that female black startup businesses are discriminated against by capital investors. Banks and private investors have no concern whatsoever if an applicant is black or female, but they are concerned about getting their investment back with interest. That is all that they care about. No black female is getting discriminated against. The only reason would be that the investment is too risky, or the applicant does not have enough personal investment in their business. Again, no one is getting discriminated against because of their race or gender.

      My first thought was that black women might just be applying for fewer loans and starting/running fewer businesses.

  • @topomusicale5580
    @topomusicale5580 25 дней назад +5

    Saying black startups only get 1% of funds means nothing unless, first, you find out what percentage of applications for the funds came from black startups, and how much they were asking for. Second, all startups are (obviously) not created equal, so even if the basic numbers weren't in proportion, the risk analysis that must be performed could totally change whether things are 'fair'. Finally, anyone who approaches organizations and threatens they change the behavior or face expensive legal action is flat out extorting them.

    • @trishrandall5031

      That was my first thought, probably black women were applying in lower numbers than members of other demographics. This is also a big problem for feminists. They claim that anything less than 50% women in any aggregation of humans is discrimination, when often it's the result of the choices of many individual women (working fewer hours to be home when the kids arrive from school, not signing up for overtime, etc.)

    A business owner should have the freedom to hire or fire at will anyone they wish to. Freedom goes both ways. I should have the freedom to NOT call you by your "preferred" pronouns. I should not be forced to play along with your delusions.

    • @trishrandall5031
      @trishrandall5031 19 дней назад

      The pronoun game is such a perfect example of the unfairness being foisted on us in so many ways. It's a violation to not call people pronouns of their choice, but no big deal to be required to voice pronouns that are forced upon, not freely chosen, by the speaker.

    Racism is judging/reacting to someone, based on their skin color. Discrimination is acting on it. It doesn't matter what color your skin is; if you do that, you're racist/discriminatory and I'm all done pretending it's not so. PS: "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive...." PPS: Why is the focus always on the discriminatory result of these policies, instead of the staggeringly insulting discrimination of the foundation of these policies; which is that the "of color community' simply cannot compete?

    I like that slip Scott made, almost saying "virtue" capitalism when he meant venture capitalism. I bet the wokeywoos who back stakeholder capitalism would think of themselves as virtue capitalism. Oddly enough, free trade encourages honesty because those who provide low quality produces and services or don't live up to agreements get less business over time.

    @1:21, before you discuss it deeper -- at a guess, it's an issue if the funds in question are public funds given to them by state, local, or federal government. It is not if they are privately granted funds from public donations. I do tend to agree that it's not "good discrimination", but there is a difference between private funds and public funds. If the "even private businesses can't do this" idea takes hold, then why is it that I can choose to give a handout to a black man, but can only choose to give handouts equally...? In general, where do we stop limiting choice? I assert that public funds -- collected via taxes with no option on the part of the taxed, vs. private funds, which represent individual choice -- is a nice, effective line in constraining choices -- it is ok for private individuals to make any choice which is not perniciously illegal, but a government bureaucrat should not have as much choice when it comes to public monies.

    If you want to fix the black entrepreneur issue you have to recognize the source of the problem. Under funded schools staffed by teachers whose job is indoctrination not teaching. We need school choice for everyone. And stop the government from funding schools based on property taxes. taxes. It basically guarantees failure.
