@ I love my old looking but new Surly 😂 . Most people don’t want to work on their new stuff anymore and have lost the satisfaction of fixing perfectly good older bikes.
I'm a fan of modern bikes with old tech like mechanical shifting and universal standards. The goal is simple, comfortable while still performing at the highest level. Vintage bikes just can't keep up with the new ones and they're less comfortable and possibly more dangerous depending on how rowdy you want to get
Finally watched this. Such a great build. The rust converter to touch up paint really makes a difference in the way it presents! I personally like the patina on most old bikes but I guess they do need to be protected so we can keep enjoying them.
Friction shifter for life! 😎💕 would be cool if there was a “pull extender” mod for them, like gear it up so it can pull a bit more cable 🤔 would have to be a larger diameter I guess
Cheers Wazman! Got some new decals for it, too 👌 got a couple similar bikes coming up though so if you want the Goose let me know, it’ll have to go 🤙 it’s bloody huge though haha
If they started making coloured dork discs I’d probably use one 😅 haha, but with that said I’ve seen derailleurs bust right through the disc and get sucked into spokes 😵💫
I set up a cues 9speed with friction for a friend and it works pretty well with an older shimano 9speed cassette. The only issue really is th learning curve, since she wasn't familiar with friction so having to get acquainted with not having the indents for each gear.
Oh sweet, good to know thanks! I’ll swap it out to a Cues setup when this chain gets worn and see how the Cues goes 😎 yeah it takes a bit of getting use to, pretty fun and reliable when you do though!
Cheers heaps! Didn’t know what handlebar was going on it until the week before putting it together, but really happy with the Bullmoose on it!haha. Turned out awesome 🤙
This is just one of those fenders that clips under your seat, cut down to suit! I had a few sitting around doing nothing and it’s the perfect material 🤙
It’s just a cut down seat mounted one, like an Ass-Savers one more or less 🤙 if you’ve got a spare rubber car mat those can work too if you get the cheap thin ones, can sometimes find them pretty cheap. I’ve used an ice cream container lid, too
Hey man, I saw your video on the surely corner Bars. I know it's super old, but did you end up being happy with your extension mod? And the bars in general? I'm thinking of getting some, and maybe doing an extension myself. Cheers from Germany
Hi! The bar extension really helped the Corner bar, no idea why they didn’t make it longer from factory! I rode the corner bar with the extensions on multi day trips and commuting a bunch, but sold the bike (and kept the bar haha) so they’re currently waiting another suitable bike. SomaFab in the US do bolt on bar extensions, or can find some other ones on AliExpress 🤙 the bar gives a nice comfy position for me, but keep in mind the change of reach and drop etc, it would be different to a dropbar position for sure! cheers!
Hey! 👋 fresh resto-mod commuter build for 2025, ready for all the weather Auckland has to offer! 🌦️ 🤙 cheers for popping in 😄

I have no idea why people are so obsessed with “modern” bikes, when there’s stuff like this still being used. Very nice.
Beats me! Warranties maybe? 🤔 There are some cool modern bikes out there though, just cost a whole lot more than modifying an old one 😅

That’s the sweet spot and can mix it up with some old stuff too, or modern drivetrain but still with mechanical shifters etc 👌
@@timtaylor9590 ahh universal standards, I nearly forgot about them. 😬

The triangular shaped handlebar looks great with the GT frame.
Haha I agree, 4 triangles now! 😂
That friction shifter mod is super cool, with the modern derailleur truly defines "neo-retro", friction is king!

Beautiful GT
Thank you! 🙌
such a sick build! always excited to watch your uploads
Thanks for stopping in 😄 so stoked with this, all the colours are awesome 😍
Great build!!! Love it as always!
Cheers heaps David 😎🤙
Love the creative rear brake stop. Best solutions sometimes DIY.
Cheers! I love the weird little diy bits haha, just happened to have a bit of bonus function too which is cool 👌
ooh, looking forward to the chrome mongoose
Cheers Wazman! Got some new decals for it, too 👌 got a couple similar bikes coming up though so if you want the Goose let me know, it’ll have to go 🤙 it’s bloody huge though haha
@@toastyrides mean! I'm keen.I'll wait and see if you can pedal it first though. If you can"t I don"t stand a chance
30:38 the moment when my heart stopped 😢😢😢
Haha yeah I don’t plan on running it indexed anyway, but still move it if needed anyway 👌
brilliant as always
Thanks heaps 😎🤙
Good looking bike
Thanks heaps! 🤙💕
what a way to start the day! always looking forward to your videos
Thanks heaps for popping in! Glad to help start your day right 😄🤙
Very nice. Love the colors.
Cheers mate! Really happy with it, just need to figure out which handlebar will go on the Mongoose now
5:58 gonna steal that trick for my bike 😂
Haha life’s too short to make the underside of a non drive-side seatstay look perfect 😂🤙
Your videos always make me want to build up another bike, but I don't need another bike.
But do you have space for another bike? 👀 😂
No one really "needs" another bike but sometimes it just happens.😅
Well, you've talked me into it 😁
@@stumpthecorgi7180 you're welcome 🤣
Beautiful Gt ,u build so well ❤❤
Thanks heaps Michel! Looking forward to building that Merida too 🥳🤙 but next is the Mongoose with those araya’s you sent me 😎
@toastyrides that will be interesting to see...
24:45 oh no! you forgot the most important part: the spoke protector (aka the dork disc!)
If they started making coloured dork discs I’d probably use one 😅 haha, but with that said I’ve seen derailleurs bust right through the disc and get sucked into spokes 😵💫

wicked build!
Thanks heaps! Really happy with it 👌
hot biz!
6:10 bob ross vibes on point. sick bike!
edit: 13:15 how do you know when you've got the right spoke tension? just by feel or do you use a gauge?
Beautiful Bike!!
Thank you! 🙏
It's way easier if you start the lacing from the inside of the hub for 3cross
10/10 mate
Cheers heaps! Didn’t know what handlebar was going on it until the week before putting it together, but really happy with the Bullmoose on it!haha. Turned out awesome 🤙
Damn she purdy!
Also haha at I'm running the shit outta that light 😂
Haha thanks! Spent way too long getting just the parts I wanted 😂🤙
Very nice build!! ❤love it
What’s the front fender toe protector you used?
I’m lookin for one in just straight black and decent length
This is just one of those fenders that clips under your seat, cut down to suit! I had a few sitting around doing nothing and it’s the perfect material 🤙
@@toastyrideshehe cheers! 💪🏽You really got a talent for improvisation/optimization :)
Have a good one!
Did you DIY your front mudflap or did you buy one? If it's a DIY one, what materials did you use?
It’s just a cut down seat mounted one, like an Ass-Savers one more or less 🤙 if you’ve got a spare rubber car mat those can work too if you get the cheap thin ones, can sometimes find them pretty cheap.

Good

@toastyrides What's the video where you show taking apart those Deore shifters and modifying them?
It’s a green Kona Lava Dome 🤙 just changed it a bit so it would shift the sram eagle setup
What kind of wrench did you use i always use hammer and screw driver
When?
A pretty nice and colourmatching build💕🩵like long fenders with mudguards too😎
Thanks! Love the colour combo 😍 haha yeah super practical with the long fenders, can go through all the puddles 😎
