They're in love with the idea of being in love, and with their own declarations of love. As the movie goes on you can see neither of them truly understands what it means to be loved or to love 💔🖤😥

Exactly. Henry had never learned how to love and Anne was just infatuated. The rose colored glasses came off pretty quickly! Maybe they kept singing that over and over because they were trying to convince themselves.

Oh really? Because the last part of the song (which is not part of this video) does sound like it. Not in terms of voiced moaning or anything. But they go:
"Speak soft when you say it.
      Speak soft when you say
We love each other so much"
and it does sound softer than in the first part or the more upbeat wilder middle part. So I was wondering if possibly .... XD

This song is so beautiful! Make sure to go and buy it, ppl! I love how simple their singing is, but the harmony of the song is adding a curious complexity.
Also, Adam Driver (and ofcourse Marion Cottilard)! I hear the movie is a visual feast of oddity and Adam being his usual impressingly unconvential acting self! I'm sure it'll be a tough one to watch but I can't help but be curious when he's involved. So far I've liked all of those I saw and some treasures where amongst them, too. I saw on some page that more is supposedly upcoming with him and I'm rather excited about this. A very beautiful human being (and also attractive on top) with deep body language, lots of skill channeled through lots of hard work. And I love when he, the directors and his scene partners manage to bring out all that capacity for expression.

This walk through is unbelivable, starting from the first seconds with hands, it goes in anti-love way (e.g. 0:18 cigarette in hand). And music... almost funeral march, not light romantic, but heavy and tragic

After SMWS, WLEOSM is one of My favorites songs from the Annette soundtrack. This was a huge Challenge for Adam Driver singing while he's playing his role cuz he's so shy as many we know it, luckily, Marion Cotillard was the expert who tries that he feels confortable while their filming that scene.

Adam is an introvert. He does not like large crowds or a lot of attention. But he's not shy. He will make his point bluntly to anyone that talks to him and he loves acting especially theater. He's not new to musical theater either. He is a Juilliard graduate after all.

The last part of the song is missing by the way. And it's lovely 3rd version of the refrain! I found lyrics around:
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
    We're scoffing at logic
    This wasn't the plan
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
    Counterintuitive, baby
    And yet we remain
We love each other so much
    Counterintuitive, baby
    And yet we remain
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
    So hard to explain it
    So hard to explain
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
We love each other so much
Speak soft when you say it
    Speak soft when you say
We love each other so much
Speak soft when you say it
    Speak soft when you say
We love each other so much
    So much (So much)
    So much (So much)
    So much (So much)
(It says "Counterintuitive, baby" but I keep hearing "Counterintuitive, maybe. And yet we remain". So not sure if there's any official version clarifying that. I do sometimes miss physical CDs for these reasons :'D)

Only in France could a movie like this be made. Watch "Call My Agent" which is not so fictionalized; the business here is all about the "intellectual auteur" creating his personal statement (read selfish) rather than providing what most people would consider entertainment. This looks as ridiculous as the Jaques Demy films of the 1960s. I'll watch it only for the music of Sparks. I also don't understand how what either of these actors is doing can be considered "singing".

The whole movie's lyrics are description of the scene we're seeing and what's happening, not much poetry, too "intellectually" written movie, and the lyrics probably weren't written by a native english speaker.
We laughed a lot during the movie, it has such a big meme potential

Too intellectual for a movie? 🤔
Perhaps you (and your friends?) should choose a different genre next time? Less Carax and Sparks?
      It's just a friendly advice. 💖

@@annabackman3028 I go for all genres, thank you. Not so reassuring when it comes to what was asked to them. The lyrics being so plain when the direction of the movie doesn't allow for such different styles mixed together, points to an overthought movie, but at least puts the responsibility on Carax.
The movie is like a mashup of three great ideas, two genres at the same time. Too much for one poignant story. Plus, the orchestral music is barely worked on... Chords with permanent strings, a piano, and that's half of the music, almost like a MIDI file that's smoother
Edit : Too intellectual for anything. Overthought. Fits France and Cannes, but it's ultimately something that makes the work easier and the movie lose purpose.

This is a more experimental side of Sparks, and not the best introduction to their music- if you’re looking for more conventional song structures/arrangements (but still with an eccentric flair), try Kimono My House or No. 1 in Heaven, two entertaining works of glam rock and synth pop, respectively. Annette is in the same vein as their early 2000’s works, Lil’ Beethoven and Hello Young Lovers, both of which were heavily influenced by minimalist composers and feature much of the same repetitive chants and orchestral-style backing that Annette does. Those are the ones to avoid if you hated the movie lol, but I believe their style is versatile enough that there’s something there for everyone, even if it’s just one song or album.
