Looking forward to your course coming out....you seem to want to create massive value and help people at any level. The world needs more people like you.
Hello Brock. Following your channel and devouring all your content. Thanks for been so eloquent and so interested on sharing your vast knowledge with others. Really appreciate.
Thank you Brock. I had a good brick and mortar store in the 90's and help others who wanted to learn about the business as well. It is always good to pay it forward in life. Who knows, I may meet you at Global Sources someday. Thank you for taking the time to make these videos.
I will see you there, I have signed up with the Global Sources Summit. Very excited to be there and meet with you. My trip Hong Kong, Canton, Yiwu, Shanghai. Godspeed everybody!
Hi Brock, I'm a beginner on Amazon FBA currently searching for my first product! I love your videos and have watched about 10 tonight. Great and honest content. I also subscribed for the course and can't wait for it to start! Peace :)
congratulations thats awesome to hear and exciting! It comes down to your goals. Canton fair you will meet many more suppliers but you have to get a visa and its cultural china 100% At canton fair you will be doing 90% sourcing and you will only learn from the sellers at meetups or if you meet someone. At Global sources you will be doing 75% networking & learning and 25% sourcing I prefer in the world experimenting so i would choose canton fair but your are going to have to get a visa and be outside your comfort zone a lot. They both will cost about the same amount if done properly. Which will make you more successful at your point in the journey? Information & peer support group or real world experience and just on the fly testing? You can source at global sources forsure, but its not the same level of suppliers compared to the canton fair
@@BrockJohnsonOfficial Hi again Brock... I need to clarify one thing. Although I am working through you and Jim Cockrums courses, I have not sold on Amazon yet. I have absolute faith in both of you AND neither of you are over priced. (especially you:-) By the way, your course is wonderful. AND, it is in small bites. I especially like that approach I have done direct marketing for over 40 years. Almost all of the new stuff on RUclips has an undertone that Amazon is getting more difficult and costly to work with and sell through. And they can knock you off without explanation and sometimes no reasonable reason. So I'm not even sure I want to go that route. I have a very specialized market. No, I'm not going to be a seven figure seller, but I'm 76 and don't care about that. $500K a year would be just fine with me. The other thing is, I "kind of" manufacture most of the stuff I sell, so the margins are very good. I am typically 50% - 60% profit out the door. The China trip is more about learning some and having fun too. Based on what you say, the Global show sounds like the best for me. The one thing I'm most interested in taking away from the show is, the best and safest and most reliable way to have things manufactured in China. Kindest regards, Keith
@@keithnorris8982 wow thanks for the long response and thtas epic you're still doing this at 76 years old! yeah it's a bit tough on Amazon its competition but it's definitely doable and definitely worth it, wouldn't be worth it if it was easy in my opinion. it depends how complex your product is if you are getting something that requires a lot of molding and electrical parts I'll be honest there's basically no Amazon sellers that can help you... We start entering the world of electronics and technology it's a completely different game you have to go to a design firm and I'm actually worked quite a bit in this field I can help you out with some custom PCB design firms. I'm actually a mathematician and inventor before I started selling. However if you're trying to learn and network and have fun with people then I would definitely go to global sources I had a really good time I got pulled away in an ambulance because I hurt my knee on accident but I was sad that I had to leave early. The key to manufacturing complex products is as follows, you either find somebody that already has it and it's not unique you build it yourself and then now you have to protect your IP or you get somebody to fill it with you and then you need to make sure they don't steal it and then they find a competent manufacturer, it's I'm more complicated process but it's completely worth it because most people won't go to this initial pain
@@BrockJohnsonOfficial Hi Again AND Again Brock:-) I appreciate your replies. No, I don't think about Amazon as easy and I do understand if it was easy everyone would be doing it. That really wasn't my point regarding them. As a long time business owner, I like being in control and not at the mercy of how fickle someone like them can be. Honestly, I don't blame them, I would do the same in their position. That being said, I think they can be great for exposure, but I believe the end game is in getting your customers dealing directly with you. As like Amazon, we all want to maximize control and profit. Manufacturing; My stuff is not to technical and they would only be involved in part of what is being made. They won't even understand what they are building. That protects the theft of the idea. The assembly would be done here. This is more about stamping, maybe molding and some assembly on their end. No electronics. Some other source may do printing. Speaking of printing, that was my business. That and graphic design. I had a company from 15 to 20 employees over the years. Towards the end, I was mostly selling and brokering the large printing projects. I was also, at an earlier age, a magician. Long story on how I went from one to the other. lol Anyway, you're a neat guy and I really enjoy watching your broadcast. Sometime it would be fun talking about a blog idea. And by the way, I've really enjoyed our interaction. Thanx again, Keith
@@BrockJohnsonOfficial Hi Again Brock, You have given me such great advice on the China show and I want you to know I truly appreciate your input. A somewhat related question... Do you recommend the ASD show in Las Vegas for Amazon sellers? I registered, but from what I've been reading, I'm thinking it appears to be more for retailers. Again, thank you for your feedback Brock. Kindest regards, Keith Norris
Hey Brock, what specific dates are you going to be in China? I'm giving serious thought about attending. I'm looking into applying for a visa now, hopefully it's not too late.
Hi! Brock thank you for this amazing video. I have a bunch of questions hopefully you can answer them to me. I want to open my own business and you said something about Global Sources, what that’s mean? Also you said I don’t need a visa to visit HongKong? Any feed back on how to start my business on line or off line would be greatly appreciated it. Thank you body again
I missed the boat on the last Canton fair, but I'm set on going to china in ~Fall 2018 for one of these sourcing missions. Any suggestions on where to go? I was considering the Yiwu Fair...
In yiwu you don't really need to wait until the fair cause the market is always open with tons of suppliers. But it depend on what you are doing, in yiwu a lot people have stocks so you can buy lower quantity compared to the canton fair at the same time the quality of the product is not as good as the supplier at canton fair. About the pricing the one you found at yiwu market is the one of the lowest and you can get and you can make it lower even more if you negotiate, but the supplier you found at canton fair are bigger supplier that are trust worthy with a lot of licence to prove that. So imo if you can start from canton fair you want to be sure if you start your bussiness if you already have a steady bussiness you can try to improve that going in yiwu taking more risk but improving your proffit. (source i worked in one trade company in yiwu for one year and now i working for a supplier for partecipate in cantofair)
hello Brock, I will be going April 2019 for the first time. I have heard from a Chinese friend that since this trade war with China has been going on that it is not as great to look into China. What are your thoughts around this?
Boring I just get overwhelmed because I open up at least a hundred 20 tabs in a couple hours haha. But you definitely do get the bang for your buck and the most of learning per hour when you go in person In my opinion the best way to learn is by doing and there's no faster way than doing it stalking to hundreds of Manufacturers all day everyday
This is a good freaking video. It made me hit that notification bell and subscribe to your email list. Thanks so much. I am way too late for going this April - but next year I will definitely keep this in mind. I am in the beauty products niche, but plan on eventually expanding into accessories which means a different kind of manufacturing which means China or India, which frankly scares the crap out of me because I don't know how it's done. Doing things in the US is one thing - but going overseas seems like a whole new ball game.
Wish I saw this video a month ago. I would have loved to meet you face to face. I lived in china for 2 years working on a project and totally believe in the importance of meeting the people and understanding the culture to improve your business relationships. Factory tours are also important to make sure you have a good manufacturer and the value the face to face interaction. I also found that the traditional dinner meetings are a blast and get you the best prices.
Yes I love this comment meeting with the factories you see a whole different story and you really get to see who is he good manufacturer to deal with and who isn't and the meals are always a good time even if it's a bad Factory or good

Good information
How did you communicate with them ? I'm sure not all of them spoke English
Slowly and painfully most factories have at least one person that speaks English I went with a friend that speaks Chinese for the second time
