With the budget most people get, it’s best to stay on the same platform if they can especially those on AM4. They have a bundle for 5600X + B450M DS3H WiFi @ $200 and that is good if a platform upgrade is needed but it isn’t always.

Super smart to just take advantage of the AM4 platform and compatibility. I am rocking the 6900 XT myself so the 6950 XT will definitely crush anything FPS wise at 1080p or 1440p, hell even 4k gaming is pretty solid from what I have seen. 5800X is a beast too, unlucky the 5800X3D was just out of budget.

    Very happy with this episode!

    • @nickb.249
      @nickb.249 Год назад +2

Could have easily gotten a cheaper cpu cooler (Microcenter regularly has the Deepcool air coolers on big sales) or kept the same one he had and got a -x3d chip and that would have been "completely maximized." If he kept the same one, he had and waited to upgrade it himself, the best air coolers on the market are Thermalrights that cost $50 less than what he paid for a Dark Rock Pro 4. I'm not sure how this type of stuff isn't being caught by the Microcenter employees or especially Greg. No one has any business paying 80+ bucks for an air cooler when Thermalright exists in the market.

Soooooooo happy he went with the AM4 platform and updated the BIOS. I think people have written off that socket because it is last gen. He definitely squeezed every penny out of that budget. A new LGA 1700 or AM5 with a "lower" tier GPU would have been a great upgrade as well, but this is 100% what I would have done. I also am running a B450 with a 5900x in it because it is a great way to save a few bucks at the cost of EXTREMELY minimal performance.

@@Dubvee_33 My point for why he should have gone for the AM5 platform upgrade is that he "won" this upgrade, thus in the future when he wants/needs to upgrade, he then needs to get a new MB + CPU + RAM. If he had went with the AM5 upgrade, then in the future his upgrade path, that he now has to use his own money for, would be a lot cheaper, as he should be able to get something like a 9800X3D or the likes.

It's always fun seeing the different ways in which people decide to use the budgets. With the 1000 I would have definitely went with the $550 13700k bundle as it was a really nice upgrade - but I am also a content creator so I am always looking beyond just gaming performance when on a limited budget. The 4070 would have been plenty,
But, also we have companies we're fans of or preferences, and amd is an excellent choice in a build. Definitely didn't expect him to already know he wanted the 5000 series CPU's because he was hoping to max out to the top end current AMD GPU.
Pretty fun stuff. I wish the only microcenter near me wasn't a 3 hour drive. If it was in my town I'd basically live there.,

(this is a shitpost/I just watched EVO and this is exciting to me) 11:18 there's a frame here where Alejandro's eyes see Greg's hand gesturing (speaking with hands, as anyone is wont to do) in his peripheral, he looks directly at the hand and you can see the decision making happening: "This is the closer, we say thanks, we shake hands and peace out".
The moment Alejandro's hand starts moving up, Greg looks at the approaching hand, and extends his. At this point, I thought the handshake was a done deal, a mutually agreed upon thing that was going to happen, but alas, Greg suddenly remembers some compliance training or maybe thinks his palms are still wet from the last time he washed or something, but withdraws. (The drama!)
Now we're in that phase where two people dodge in the same direction. The first thing that happens is completely natural "No handshake? Alright, fist bump!" But the their fists end up perpendicular because they had slightly different ideas of what a fist bump is.
What happens next is pure chaos, entirely up to the two's experience, habits, and sense of humor. It's like a duel, a real-time non-verbal negotiation. The purest form of communication.
Alejandro, in 3 split moments, seeing the fist, wants to make the Rock Paper Scissors joke, but falters for one of the moments, and opens his hand to the ... duck face?
Greg, upon realizing he's about to punch a duck in the face, reasonably presents a duck so they can share a duck kiss, but by that point Alejandro's ready with the scissors.
Greg, observing this, also pivots to scissors, but Alejandro makes the default rock formation before ultimately settling on paper, but then has a flash of inspiration. "Nah! Screw that! I don't wanna lose!", his inner gamer forces him to put out scissors.
Little did he know, Greg was swerving from scissors to gun. But in doing so, Greg also brought back verbal communication, defusing the situation, and ending the match.
All in all, great stuff from both sides!

Michigan here... like how the guy decided to keep with the same platform. After many PC builds and upgrades I have found that the best bang for the buck is keeping the same MB and just upgrade cpu, memory, gpu and storage for years. Then once the platform is two generations old I start over. Guess the hardest struggle is keeping an old gpu for years till the next platform upgrade. My current AMD build has the Ryzen 7 5800x3d which is the third and last cpu for this build. For the GPU I still rock the AMD 5700xt. It needs some setting downgrades to keep frames over 60fbs on my 2k monitor but for a 4yr old card that is fine.

Few months ago I build almost the same PC for my niece, the same PC that he had prior to the upgrade. I build that PC from my spare parts shelf, Ryzen 5 2600, 16GB RAM and a Gigabyte RX6600. and that PC works perfectly fine for her, she's so happy when she could play Harry Potter and lately she's hooked on Apex.
So this PC of this dude wasn't that horrible to start with. Still a very big upgrade though but if he runs a 1080p monitor at home he will basicly kneecap the system by not even getting close to really having to do much.
So I hope for the love of God that he has a 1440p monitor on his shortlist.

The AM4 platform is still a strong one. Yes the new platforms offer way better performance but that doesnt mean its not performing well. I made my new pc with the 5800x on a x570 and my worries is graphics card which is a 3080. I think i wont change platform for 6-8 years while gpu i think I will have to change it after 2-3 years. P.S. I used the be quiet dark rock pro 4 which is more beefy and very quiet...

5800x is still a solid cpu. He did the right choice keeping the platform especially with DDR4 being also cheaper if he wishes to upgrade to 32gb. Not sure how well the b450 will handle the 5800x, I mean it should be overclocked to get the most out of it (most do 4.7ghz and some 4.75)

That was really not bad if I say so! I don't really like the case, because it doesn't have much front airflow, but that could be easily swapped later down the line if needed.
Also good to see someone with a high enough budget for a powerful CPU & GPU!

ONLY 2 hours??!??!? If I was 2 hours from a microcenter I'd probably be there at the very least once a month, if not every other weekend, and be more broke than I already am lol. The nearest one to me is over SIX hours away! And with the cost of gas here in Cali, the savings from going to microcenter vs other stores would all get eaten in fuel costs.
