thats my dad that caught the ending game winning catch. #8 Peebles!!!! he went on to play for the browns and buccaneers but his career was cut short due to a really bad neck injury during a game with the Houston Oilers.

I remember Danny along with Naz and Co. After 3 years of suffering through Monte Kiffen, it was nice to have a team play real football. Hope you dad is doing well, and tell him thanks for SOOOO many great memories.

Refs cost Carolina this game by not starting the clock on Raynard Brown's run. The crew was reprimanded by the ACC the following week.

A couple of things....one, the play by the South Carolina defender on the penultimate play might be the STUPIDEST play in all of football. He's lined up offsides. The ball is AT his feet. He's standing between the guard and center with NO awareness of where he needs to be. Pure stupidity.
Secondly, why did the production staff put the final score on the screen obscuring the view of Peebles' catch? Just throw it up a few seconds later!!
This game wasn't on TV so the coach's tape is the only record of it. We dominated the first half and then Sheridan tried to run away and hide in the second half. Didn't work and a good South Carolina team with a number of future NFL players on it came back and took the lead before that last play.
It was a Pyrrhic victory however. Kramer was lost for the next game with an ankle injury. We played an absolutely terrible UVa team and lost by a touchdown...it cost us our best shot at a conference title, something we haven't won since 1979. D'oh. Also cost us a shot at playing in the Citrus Bowl.

@@pcooke9865 Well those South Carolina fans must have been time travelers. Because SC didn't join the SEC until the 1992 season.

I was there! In fact, I was standing in the student section on the sideline right by that last play. It was insane.

I was at the game , I was a high school senior watching my cousin Todd Fisher play for the Wolfpack. I went out on the field like everyone else after the game….it was a surreal experience that I still think about often

That was a great game. Me and my future wife and roommates were there as usual. Boy the SC Fans were PISSED after that game. We almost got into several fights on the way out.

Todd Ellis' freshman year at South Carolina. He probably would have won the Heisman in 1989 had we not injured his knee against NC State.

I remember him very well. His second half season in 1988 wasn’t what he would have liked it to be. Then when Sparky Woods came in 1989 it looked as though he was getting on the right track, then he got injured right when he was getting back on top of his game. I remember it being really sad.
