Gamecock fan here. This game encapsulated the career of Todd Ellis for me. Very good, maybe great, talent and came up with a lot of big plays. 31 years later he is still our career passing yards leader. However, he is also far and away the career interception thrown leader. He took too many chances and got burned with picks a lot as shown here.

I am a Tar Heel fan. I am pretty indifferent towards South Carolina in general but I do in general get behind them when they are having a good year. They were pretty good in 87 gave Miami a great game. I pull for South Carolina quite often in the present day SEC.

@@strimbimmin328 considering that Conner Shaw never lost a home game, and the points the Gamecocks put up under Spurrier, I thought Conner got it. Ellis was the king of INT's. They are marked for a good season in 2023. Seems only Georgia, Alabama, and LSU, stand in their way. I think they will beat Clemson for the 2nd straight time.

This was back in the day when these non-con games were great. NU plated Utah State, Arizona State, UCLA and South Carolina that year in their non conference schedule. Nobody does that anymore. SC was very tough that year and in 1986.

Independent football in the east/on the east cost met up with lots of conference giants. There was no other way for those non aligned teams to rank high in the polls. Lots of conference schools weren't reluctant to put their teams on the field with Miami, FSU, Penn State, etc. On the other hand, there were more than a few independents that cupcaked their way to 1 loss if not perfect records.
