"Ball in play with safe club" is probably the best tip I've ever brought along with me. Earlier this year I was struggling hard and compounding errors. Ended up "only" using my 4-5 safe clubs and adjusting the hit rather than squeezing 10% chance shots out of clubs I didn't find comfortable. Seeing the shots go well boosts your morale and makes it an enjoyable round which really teaches you how your game is often a lot better than your mindset thinks it is when you're out there cutting grass in deep rough.

My teen sons are starting to play. I taught them the basics of driving, and they seem to get it enough to get the ball out there. But going forward I’m going to really stress with them the importance of learning how to hit great shots within 150 yards. And I totally agree that if they can hit the 50% wedges well, it’s because they then understand the mechanics of the golf swing, and that will definitely help them with hitting the longer shots with longer and lower lofted clubs.

The mental approached shared in these videos is outstanding. It makes sense to me as a former basketball player. I enjoyed basketball because I developed a game that suited my capabilities. I wouldn't have taken pleasure with basketball if I tried to play like Michael Jordan or Lebron James. Now, I don't get mad because I don't have the golf game of Rory McIlroy or prime Tiger Woods. Developing my game and being able to compete with others at my level is where the pleasure lies.

Fun and instructive video, thanks. To your point, the "Dave Pelz Short Game Bible" states that if a 10 hcp player hits the tee shots and approaches, then gives it over to a tour pro to finish each hole, the resultant hcp player would be scratch. BTW, P hit it a little better the last couple of holes, but he was 12 over for 9 holes and was pretty poor off the tee, on approaches, short game, and putting. Maybe the camera made him nervous, but don't think he's really a 16

    1) if you don't get off the tee well, you're dead. If you can't carry the hazard or penalty area, play it safe.
    2) approach shots 100 - 150 yds. Most mid-high HC players miss greens with these.
    3) wedge game: get good with partial wedge shots inside 100 yds.
    4) Chipping around the green? I use a hybrid whenever possible because even if I hit it poorly, I end up closer to the hole than if I duff the shot with a wedge. GIOTG.

None of my blowout holes have ever been from hitting a bad shot from within wedge range or from missing a putt. Triples and above always come from the tee. The short game only becomes important when you learn to hit the fairway.

I think in all honesty the difference is hitting the center of the club more often especially inside 120; a pro's misses are usually so much better than a high handicappers.

Hdcp mile markers for my golf journey:
20+: putt with glove on 🤪
12-20: par 5’s stopped seeming daunting, became viewed as scoring opportunities.
7-12: this is where I live now, and sometimes I’d still rather be hitting from rough than fairway, depending on the course of course, because I’m still afraid of thin lies. Help me playa! When will this fear leave me! I need to play off a 2 and I know it’s there for me!!

At my course I've been taking driver out on most holes I noticed I was to close to the greens or hitting it out of bounds even on par 5s I've been pulling 5 iron and have gained at least a shot back. Especially on short pitch shots way easier to hit full wedges in lol

Basics to being pretty good at golf:
    - hit a straight enough drive to be in play, doesn’t have to be a bomb
    - be decent with your irons, so practice these the most to limit your thin and chunky shots. You must know your distances for each club.
    - don’t ever triple putt

It’s clear to me the difference is both the short and long game. P had some great holes that he managed well. However, the consistent solid ball striking by ProMo demonstrates why he is a Pro. It’s clear that Mo has put a lot of time into his craft. I salute P, 16 handicap is great! Plus playing on camera must be tough!!

What I am refining in the STROKES SHAVED SYSTEM is that the tee shot is the balls, the short game is the brain and the approach game is the heart. Protect the head and the balls at all costs. The heart will keep them pumping

Difference hitting 500 to 1000 wedges a day for a living or someone working 60 hrs week or more to support his family while occasionally hitting the links. Time, ability to have the luxury to play often and enough physicality to achieve a touch of success... Amateurs keep it real and in perspective aka write checks your body can cash that's means appropriate tees, multiple practice shots pre shot aren't going to really make a difference - step up grip and let er fly. If you suck but still love the game that's fine just don't encumber others with slow play. Thin stuff & be boss on the moss.
