    Robin Williams fought for the ending of this film... originally it had Daniel and Miranda getting back together. But with going thru divorce himself (with 2 kids), he thought it was important for the ending to be realistic

      It’s a much better ending. Because it leaves both reuniting or divorcing as a possible conclusion. What ultimately ends up happening isn’t really crucial to the storyline.

      I remember I was a child of divorced parents and it made me soooooo sad that they didn't get back together at the end. I felt like it meant my family would never get back together.

      funny you said that. Sally field did an interview where she talked about how Robin kept trying to break her and make her crack up during a scene and she never did. he kept saying "I'm going to make you laugh" and he never could. during the climatic dinner scene Pierce Brosnan made a fart noise during a scene and she burst into hysterical laughter and couldn't stop, much to Robin's frustrations. all the effort to make her laugh and Pierce gets her with a little bathroom humor.

    My favorite thing about this movie is that they easily could have made the character of Stu a jerk. He could have been unlikable or mean to the kids but even when they weren't around he talked about how crazy he was about the kids and Miranda. He was a good parental figure and didn't do anything bad, he just happened to be the guy that Daniel's ex now was into and pretty much the perfect guy.

    • @hikemartman7971
      @hikemartman7971 Год назад +7

      I like how Daniel’s attempts to sabotage Stu sort of make him invest and fight to earn his place, and earn our begrudging respect even though we root for Daniel. Your right, he could have been a jerk or a cad or a total simp. Instead he is handsome and boring and decent, which is perfect because Daniel still has a lane.

      @@cheechychong7815 I think you're remembering it wrong. I rewatched it and the bartender mentions 3 kids is a lot of baggage and Stu says "Three TERRIFIC kids, and i'm crazy about them. Robin Williams is a comedic genius and he brings humor to a situation so many men go through that puts them in a very dark place. Even if your on good terms with your Ex, the State and Courts are often soulless and do what they can to benefit themselves in their multibillion dollar industry.

      He didn't die of depression. He had a rare form of dementia that cut off the brain's ability to track memories. Later stages of this dementia result in a perpetual state of fear and paranoia, creating hallucinations, extra adrenaline and spasms of the body. In that moment, it's likely he couldn't remember himself, was in the throes of insurmountable terror and in that moment, saw that noose as an escape for whatever he thought was after him. That makes it all the more painful than just depression, sure. But it's better to be accurate about these sorts of details.

    Hot Take Fact: The scene where Daniel (Robin Williams) knocks down the prosthetic mask and it goes flying out into the street required over fifty takes.
    What Script Fact: Chris Columbus would use two or three cameras at a time when shooting Robin Williams' scenes, uncertain of what the famously improvisational actor would come up with. Columbus viewed shooting these scenes as if he were making a documentary.
    Make-Up Shenanigans Fact: The prosthetic mask used by Robin Williams in the film was actually a prop. The real make-up was made up of eight separate pieces. According to one biography, Robin Williams decided to test out the believability of his Mrs. Doubtfire character during filming by going as Mrs. Doubtfire into an adult bookstore and making a purchase. He was able to do so without being recognized.

    I’ve worked with Mara Wilson’s brother for almost 20 years. He’s told me so many stories about life on and around set with Robin Williams. Every time he brings up Robin it’s nothing but praise and love. For me, Robin Williams was my “hero”. Such a beautiful soul. I miss him.

    I couldn't wait for this reaction. JL and Blank, I had a great time watching this. I can't count how many times I've seen this movie. This is my daughter's favorite movie. Her mother, and my son's, divorced. Fortunately my ex and I are still friendly, we never talked bad about each other to our children either. This movie reminded me of a movie I think JL will like, Matilda (1996). Also the other day I thought of the movie Bugsy Malone (1976) for some reason. I don't remember why.

    Love this movie! Great pick fam loved the reaction. Robin Williams movies are almost always worth it. It's depressing his life ended the way it did but it's amazing how much joy and laughter he brings in nearly every role. Highly recommend Hook (It's such a shame that movie was panned so horribly when it first came out). As well One Hour Photo is one that doesnt get enough credit (One of the rare occasions Williams did a horror/drama movie) but practically everything he did was gold. Thanks again!

    Great movie...Robin at one of his best! Love hearing your laugh J.💚
    And J...I have helped a couple different people look for their teeth/partials before. My daddy had dentures. Long time ago I had a room-mate who wore partials and she couldn't find them. We looked everywhere and I was just about to go outside and get into the dumpster when my roomie came running outside with joy...she had found them...in her glasses case!😜Thank God!!!! The things we do for people we care about!😂💚💚

    This movie did two things that were unconventional for your typical Hollywood flick. It didn't make Stu out to be a dork or a-hole and it didn't get the parents back together at the end. Filmmakers usually can't resist giving into that(see Liar Liar).

    I use to watch this movie a lot as a kid and saw it as just a funny movie, but now as an adult I now know how real this movie is. This movie touched on a real topic I wish people cared more about, which is how bad Dad's are treated in child custody hearings and guys are treated in divorce courts. A lot of guys lose their kids, home, car, pets and sometimes life in these situations!

    • @Rhodair
      @Rhodair Год назад +1

      that was true back when this movie came out but has be far more equal in recent decade - it still sways a bit more toward women having greater custody, but that's because fewer men choose equal time

    • @jessecortez9449
      @jessecortez9449 Год назад +2

      I know some guys that consider this a horror movie more than a comedy because what a loving father does just to spend some time with his own children. Women don't understand unless they're the very rare one that isn't custodial. The State and Courts are soulless in regards to family and treat it more like a business being dissolved while the father is thinking about his own blood. You'd think they would create a culture that forms strong families for the sake of a future but they're basically cannibalizing the future so they can pocket some cash in the present. Child support is a multi billion dollar industry that they don't want going away regardless of what it does to children.

    That same little girl played Robin Williams daughter in his movie " HOOK" I think. It must have been around the same time, because she looks about the same age. I thought the movie was great. Robin played Peter Pan and Dustin Hoffman played Captain Hook. Robin Williams was such a versatile actor. Good Will Hunting and Good Morning ,Vietnam are good too.
