Thank you for bringing up this issue. I have people disappointed because there is no signature or date. Don't know why I don't. Now I will, and I won't make the mistake of using my pen.
Ty for the tips. I appreciate it. Do you have any videos for the beginner artist. I do well with sketching and want to begin doing artwork for myself and to sell. Thanks.
Thank you so much for this information, I literally just started signing my paintings..and I used the sharpie oil based paint pen..what a relief you saying it's a good one lol
Thank’you for the tip of the marker.i will look for it bc i use a brush and … well harder !! have seen artist signing ALSO the back of the painting .what are your thoughts on that?
Great tips Devin, I struggle as well signing so will give this a try. Do you date them at all? Also do you write any more information on the back like name, date, website etc?
Thank you, for sure maybe I should have added that to the video also but I do date, sign and add the name of the painting to the back of the canvas this can be done with sharpie as it does not normally get light.
@@DevinsArtistry do you write that straight onto back middle of canvas or on back of frame? Marker would seep through painting eventually, wouldn't it? If adding paper or for information, what would you suggest?
Devin, a great video! I've been struggling with my signature in general due to carpal tunnel on my writing hand. As for the signature, it looks like your only signing your first name. Mine is Wendy. I have been working on a nice signature as for mine looks like a straight line that has been curved on both ends. With both my watercolor and pencil artwork, I would like to have my viewers and possibly buyers, know who I am. I can do this with a ball black pen. Does it make sense to use this? Also with the date, should I use the exact date, like, 8-20-2020? Thanks!
It’s totally up to you. My last name is really really long so I find it doesn’t look great on the painting I would only recommend whatever you do you stick with it and no change it.
Also I would stay away from ink pens unless it’s on the rear I don’t think it would have the staying power and may fade. For the date on the rear I normally just put the month and year. IE November 2020
@@DevinsArtistry Thanks so much Devin! I purchased Royal & Langnickel doutble tipped markers. I know it's not top quality, but, there are 36 colors to choose from! I'm self teaching myself how to watercolor, so, I don't think I'll be selling any of my work right now! :) Again, thanks for the tips - no pun intended! LOL
Question: Does the white sharpie oil based marker work for signing on mixed media drawings that uses the mediums prismacolor colored pencils/markers, oil pastels, crayola crayons, regular permanent color sharpies...?
Hi Jean, This is the one I used in the video hope it helps. www.amazon.com/Sharpie-Permanent-Oil-Base-2-Carded-1782041/dp/B00KWTM7E6/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=Paint+Sharpie&qid=1602635194&sr=8-2
Thank you for this video! I was looking for tips on how to sign my paintings as I can sign with pen or pencil but not a brush. My question is (1) does the oil base sharpie work fine with oil paintings? (2) What about the date, do we put the date next/under our name or in the back of the painting? Thank you, have a nice night!
On resin paintings, it was hard for me to figure out what to sign with,. I found at hobby lobby a product called SILVER MARKER by Pilot, and GOLD MARKER, also by Pilot. Do you know if it lasts? It doesn’t say if it is oil or not. Just permanent. ?
I do not believe they are paint markers so you may still have the fading on them but not entirely sure. You want to look for any marker that is labeled "paint" it can be oil or acrylic.
@@simogauksrud9158 o please, don’t you give up. Just keep on keeping on. With persistence, patience, positive attitude and hard work, you will get there. Pray to the most high God about it. He will see you through.

For sure people love looking for and at the signature. I know personally its the first thing I look for when looking at art.
Great ideas. I really like the idea of tracing the signature with paint. Especially, if a pen isn't available.
Welcome back! Good to see you again! Nice subject! 🥰
Thank you! 🤗 It has been a crazy few months with Covid-19, everything closed up, business being difficult but happy to be back at it!
Excellent thanks for that. I'm always having this problem

This is really helpful tip, thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much, so happy your found it helpful!
Devin, as a beginner I’m still confused with your first method. Can you list products please? Also, I’m left handed and REALLY struggling! Thanks
Thanks for the great tip Devin.
Could you also give a tip to sign one’s watercolour art ? Thanks so much
I would use the paint pen, problem with watercolour for signatures could be bleeding.
Wonderful tip❤️ Great share.
Thank you!
Thank you Devin this help a lot
Great tips! Glad to see you back!
So happy to be back at it again, now that the craziness has starting to subside!

Great to hear its a fantastic product and holds up just as well as your painting itself in the long term!

It should work over colored pencil, oil pastels, permanent sharpies but any waxed based mediums like crayons would reject the oil paint.
@@DevinsArtistry oh ok...thanks for informing me about that 👍👌
@@DevinsArtistry oh ok...thanks for informing me about that 👍👌
can you use the oil based permanent maker sharpie on acrylics as well?
For sure over dried acrylic paint not a problem.
Hello Devin I started doing Reain art. How would I sign it where. Will the oil paint sharpie be good and should I seal it
If you are doing only one layer I would actually consider colored resin in a needle squeeze bottle that you can use with sign with in resin.
Can you use graphite pencil to sign your art work? Is it recommended
I sign mine on the back of the canvas. Not sure if that is acceptable but it is what I do and I also date it.
I'm also an engineer by trade but I paint for the joy of it.
For sure, its whatever works for you but I do like seeing the signature on the front of the piece it is your branding after all :)
Good info, but can you please give me the name of the ink paint pen you use as there are so many out there and not all are good ones. Thanks

@@DevinsArtistry Hi Devin. What is the other pen that you talked about first? The one that you wrote with on the canvas and then painted over it?

So can I use these oil based pens to sign on a oil painting? Thanks
For sure it would would great!

Should I sign my painting after varnishing or before? (acrylic painting)
Before varnish to make sure your signature is protected also.
@@DevinsArtistry Hey! Thanks a lot!! 😊☺
Should I always sign on the front or the back or does it matter
Totally up to you but I believe signing the front is very important and on the rear I would normally sign and put the date.
My problem is i cannot decide on a signature /name 😩
I love this! Do you have any tips for drawings too? 😊
I would use whatever medium you are using to draw help it blend into the artwork.
@@DevinsArtistry thanks, i need to do this on my art, i hope to make some sales soon.
